On April 22, 2021, officers from the Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services and Blue Hills RCMP attended a property in Glenboro, Manitoba. This search is in relation to the disappearance of 31-year-old Anna Marquart (nee Bauman) who was last seen leaving the residence, which was her home, on July 4, 2020. This search was done with the consent of the property owner, who is cooperating fully with the RCMP investigation.

At this time, police are concerned for Anna’s well-being, but there is no evidence to suggest criminality. Anna is described as 5’1” tall and 119 pounds, with light brown hair and blue eyes.

If you have information, please call Blue Hills RCMP at 204-726-7519, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com. The investigation is ongoing.

Anna Marquart, 31, was last seen leaving the house on the property, which belongs to her husband Herb Marquart, on July 4, 2020. Blue Hills RCMP received a report on Feb. 4 that Anna Marquart (née Bauman) was missing. Police say they are worried about her well-being, but there is no evidence of criminality.

In the months since they received the report of Anna Marquart's disappearance, police have spoken with family and friends, and searched through her financial records and communications, hoping to learn whether someone other than her family members has had contact with her.

Snip

Anna and her sister, E. B., left Manitoba's only Old Order Mennonite community in 2013. They later went to police alleging decades of sexual abuse and being sold for sex by family and community members. No charges were ever laid in that investigation.

Sheez. It'll be interesting to see how this case unfolds.

Did Anna leave voluntarily? Did she have an accident when she ventured out alone? Did she meet with foul play at the hands of a stranger? Is she a victim of DV by someone she trusted at home? Or, did someone or some people from her past target her? Speculation runs rampant in most cases, but in Anna's case each theory is a true possibility, imo. I hope she's somewhere safe, but... :(

The sisters told CBC News they were being spied on and harassed by community members who wanted them to return.

Herb Marquart was no longer welcome in the Old Order Mennonite community after he and the sisters had helped a teenage boy run away from his foster home and return to his parents. He pleaded guilty to abducting a person under 14 and a Child and Family Services Act charge and was sentenced to jail and probation.

The sisters were sent by the court to live with D. and her husband. Months later, the sisters pleaded guilty to a Child and Family Services Act offence and were each handed a suspended sentence of 18 months probation. A number of other charges were stayed. D. said they started to drift apart after Anna and E. moved in with Marquart, who was on unsupervised probation for two years.

Another friend, L. W., said he also used to drop in regularly to visit the Marquarts, but he hasn't seen any of them for more than a year. W. said they disconnected their phone and wouldn't allow anyone onto the yard, which is protected by a gate and a vicious dog.

RCMP officers have been to the Marquart property but Manitoba RCMP media relations officer Tara Seel wouldn't say if Herb and E. are suspects. "I want to stress that this is a missing person investigation, and while nothing is off the table at this stage, we are not going to foul play at this point. [Anna] is still considered missing," Seel said.

How come that the police only got involved 7 months after she was last seen? Who reported her missing? Was her sister still living with her and her husband at the time? Did she take any belongings with her?

ETA: Upon reading the full articles it appears that her sister is still there. Testimony of her friends is worrying, because since moving in with Anna's husband, the family became isolated, to the point that they disconnected the phone and visitors weren't allowed into their yard. They seemed paranoid.

I am curious to know what Anna's sister has to say about her disappearance. I wonder if LE has been able to talk with her and if the conversation happened away from H.M.. At this point I don't know exactly what my gut is telling me happened, but I don't think Anna willingly left the property. :( It seems though that if anyone w/ the OOM community is involved, they would have taken both Anna and her sister if the opportunity presented itself.

I can't get the article to open properly.
Me neither, but I was hoping that locals would be able to read it. Beginning of the article thanks to Google's preview:

LW sat down for coffee in Anna and Herb Marquart's house in Glenboro last July, and when he left, everything seemed fine. Anna Marquart was last seen in Glenboro in July. ... "I just found that out (Tuesday)," W said by phone.

I figured out a way to get a little of the text. ;)
A friend last visited her in July:

Friend baffled Glenboro woman missing

[Referring to his last visit in July] I saw both of them there. I went over every second month. You would call in, they still had a phone and the gate was locked. You phoned and Anna would come out and unlock the gate and then lock it when you came in. And when you left, Anna would unlock the gate and lock it after you left."

Everything seemed fine. They seemed normal to me. I didn't leave with the impression she was going to leave. We had coffee and cake and everything seemed nice. [snip] We've had some snow here and there are fresh tracks there, so someone is there. [snip] Waldner said a relative of Anna in Ontario has called him a few times in recent months, asking him if he had seen her and saying she hasn't been seen down there either. He said he has asked around Glenboro, but no one has seen Anna.

BBM. Perhaps he should have also asked if anyone has seen her husband or sister around.

This is an odd case.

I can't find anything about anyone being charged for sexual abuse in the Old Order Mennonite community in Manitoba, though there was a man charged for child abuse who was reportedly the community disciplinarian who everyone brought their kids to, and who was convicted of doing some pretty depraved (non-sexual) things. By no means do I mean to discredit Anna and her sister, just reporting what I've found so far.

A lot of comments at: Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba.

It appears from the link that the people mentioned in previous articles have connection to religious groups the sisters escaped from.

I'm confused about the sisters and Anna's husband being charged in helping a boy escape from foster care and return to his parents. Were they acting for or against the Old Older Mennonites? Was the boy they were saving abused at home or in foster care?

ETA This was from 2013-14. It's convoluted and everyone's role is explained here: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/mani...te-child-abuse-excessive-discipline-1.3476159.

Anna's response to the charges (although her name isn't mentioned explicitly):
"We were taking care of kids who did not want to go back to the community or the foster homes. We told them to go back. The community asked us to take care of the kids. It was not a choice."

It seems that although she and her sister left in 2013, they still had ties to the community. Their allegations of sexual abuse came a couple of years later.
