The "apartment complex" is the row of homes on the other side of the train tracks from the restaurant, correct? This is where Ariel walked to knock on the door. I hope police have entered each one of these homes.

I feel so sad. Lord please let him be found safe. Even though I couldn't understand what was said, the mom's interview was heat wrenching.

If this is the footage from the restaurant (still posted above) then I don't think Ariel crossed the railroad tracks at all.

Have they had any dogs out searching for our sweet little pea?

Yes matou, I think you could be right...perhaps the resto footage only shows him knocking on the door of the apartment as a long view across its car park...and not directly in front of the restaurant on the east side of the tracks.
But, wouldn’t this footage also show him exiting the apartment complex and crossing the road to the park? I wish they'd show it...

ETA: is there a link to the restaurant footage somewhere or do we just have the photo of the father looking at a still?

"Akouena Noëlla Bibie said she hasn't slept since her son, Ariel Jeffrey Kouakou, went missing, leaving his home in Ahuntsic-Cartierville to walk to a friend's house nearby."

******

Catching up on the latest facts before I go back to read:

"She spoke alongside her husband, Kouadio Frédéric Kouakou, who helped her to stand during the brief interview.

The boy's father said that he still has hope his son will be found alive and believes he was kidnapped.

Kouakou said the family harbours no ill will toward anyone involved — they simply want their son back.

The family also thanked police officers and volunteers who are participating in the search effort."

(Last msm fact before I go back to catch up)

Last seen on Monday

"A surveillance video taken on Monday from a home on Gouin Boulevard shows Ariel walking, turning as if his name had been called, walking again and then turning again before walking swiftly away."

Oh no, ugh, feel sick...:(

Missing since Monday?! :( :(

Eta: Man this one gives me a PIT in my gut, baaaaaad, bad, bad feeling :(

Montreal police Sgt. Laurent Gingras said an Amber Alert normally isn't issued without certain factors being known.

"For example, we don't have a description of a person who would have kidnapped the boy, we don't have a description of the vehicle involved," Gingras said.

"But we do have the fact that, since it's 24 hours, since he's only 10 years old and since we don't have any historical reports of him missing and the fact it's winter and pretty cold, that's why investigators from the Montreal police decided to issue an Amber Alert."

Catching up...Wow, this is the first time I recall seeing such a statement as strong and effective as this/ approach from LE re: the issuing of an AA without technically meeting the criteria! Fantastic!! In the Canadian cases I've followed, Noelle, Tim B, and others, LE really seems to have their stuff together up there. You guys don't fool around and I love it!

****

I'm thinking someone took him. JMO

Oh nooooooo....

Any other similar disappearances in the vicinity recently? Other unsolveds?
Will shut up and read now...man....I hate to read this...

I grew up in this neighbourhood, my parents still live there. Apparently there was a candlelight vigil tonight at Normandie shopping centre. I haven’t seen anything in msm but my mother mentioned this to me a few hours ago. I’m so worried...

I am really thinking .. hoping?.. tragic accident. But I will tell you that the first time I heard of this disappearance on Monday my thoughts immediately went to Wilton Lubin and the other boys. https://www.google.ca/amp/nationalp...unsolved-quebec-child-murders-documentary/amp

Gina, what is the proximity to any of these other cases? (Going to back to read but wanted to make a note to ask in case you guys hadn't covered this yet.)

Sorry, reading backwards:

""The family suspects the other figures could be his abductors. The car then never leaves the parking lot, which is why some family members have theorized that Ariel may still be at the complex, held against his will.""

Plural? As in abductors with an "s"...this is strange imo...

An outpouring of support reached the doorstep of Ariel Jeffrey Kouakou's family home in the form of a vigil Friday night, following a harrowing week full of unanswered questions.

It was the fifth nightfall since the 10-year-old boy went missing from his Montreal neighbourhood.

About a hundred people walked from the park, where he was last seen Monday after leaving his home in Ahuntsic-Cartierville to walk to a friend's house.

The vigil reached the family's door, holding candles and signs, and watched as people filed down the stairs. Among them was the boy's father, Kouadio Frédéric Kouakou.
Kouakou said the family harbours no ill will toward anyone involved — they simply want their son back.

The family also thanked police officers and volunteers who are participating in the search effort.

The other abductions were mostly concentrated in the southern part of the island. Ariel is from the northern part so not very close geographically speaking but the neighbourhoods are similar in that they are lower income transient areas. The thing is Montreal is a really safe city. These types of things ( if it really is an abduction) stands out because it is really not a common thing here.

Is the park flanking the river? I do know the area is by the water.
I remember a case years ago of a missing boy (Montreal East), also in winter, who was found to have gone through the ice.
Ugh

Yes the reporting has been somewhat confusing. I’m glad the female witness finally came forward last night and they have neighbours saying that he was seen knocking on the friends door.
I’m really thinking accident/river at this point. I wish there was a heavier presence at the river. There were a few cases of missing children going through the ice there. A case that a poster mentioned above as well as an autistic boy from Laval about 7 years ago who wandered and was found there at about this exact time of year. I’ll see if I can find links.

Sounds plausible, water (haven't looked at the maps yet, but of course, we so often see this (much more commonly than SK victim).

(Eta: we both posted at the same time.)

I really can’t agree with this guy’s statement because most of the snow came down on Monday night. Until then we’d had a few days of milder temperatures and melt. And I really do think the snow has actually hampered the search because on Monday there would have been trampled slushy snow on the non-path areas of the park and perhaps, had a big search happened on Monday night some footsteps would have been visible but by Tuesday morning we had a thick blanket of more that 1/2 a foot. Any broken banks of ice along the river or evidence of Ariel at the water’s edge, especially on the island, would be obscured by Tuesday morning.
It’s sad to think that our best hope for this boy is an abduction but police have alluded to other witnesses who saw the boy in the park on Monday, and while not giving up hope for a happy ending, I am thinking it is more and more likely he ended up in the water.

Re: the jail a few blocks east.
Yes, there is a prison in the vicinity that houses prisoners sentenced to less that 2 years for their crimes and others awaiting trial. I am sure that this has been a line of inquiry that the police have looked into, ie: following up on Monday’s released prisoners etc. I have faith in the Montreal LE that this and locally-known sex offenders have been checked out. It can be frustrating for many of us used to the abundance of inmate and booking info available south of the border.

In their darkest hour, more than one hundred people brought their prayers and support to the family’s doorstep.

“We’re not alone, thank you, thank you,” Jeffrey Ariel’s father said, overwhelmed with joy and relief.

Jeffrey’s friend, 10 year old Gabriel Fournier-Villeneuve organized tonight’s vigil.

“It’s my birthday and as a gift, I don’t want gifts. I want to bring hope to those who’ve lost it,” said the young boy.

"Reported missing by his parents on Monday afternoon, police would later learn from a witness that the boy was seen in Parc des Bateliers, a riverside park just half a block from the boy’s Valmont St. home, at 2 p.m. that same day. Brabant said investigators are seeking fresh visuals from surveillance cameras as well as reviewing footage they already have in an effort to deduce what route he might have taken if and when he left that area."

Yeah....I lived in Montreal many years, some in the West Island. How many times was I afraid to walk onto the ice? Sometimes you couldn't tell where the shore stopped and the lake edge began, due to the covering of snow.
I fear poor Ariel may have mistaken snow covered thin ice to the ground of the park's edge. :(

While his family said Ariel left home at noon, the owner of a store on Gouin Blvd. said he recorded Ariel walking past his store at 11:15 a.m. on surveillance video that has since been given to police.

The store's owner said the time on his machine is accurate and was changed in accordance with the DST switch -- even though the time on the tape is almost an hour earlier than when the boy was reported at leaving home.

The walk would only be 10-15 minutes if the approximate locations of Ariel's house and the friend's house are correct. It has been very mild and on Monday the pavements had been free of snow and ice for days...lots of people get back into sports shoes as soon as the city is slush free.
Ariel is walking West to East on the garage's CCTV at 11:15am and the friend's house is a block or two further East near the train tracks, but we don't have footage of him walking back home. This means he must have entered the park at the entrance near the friend's house. So, until he is met by the lady in the park around two, I guess he was just amusing himself in the park for a couple of hours? There is a footbridge out to a little island and it is a lovely park but I've only been in the summer...but in winter, well, my heart grows heavy thinking how dangerous the river banks would be to a 10-year-old filling his afternoon alone. :(

The current of the river is too strong for them to search right now. I hope the family gets answers soon. If he was walking near the river he may have assumed what looked like snow covered ground was actually just snow covered thin ice and fallen in.
