CANADA Canada - Audrey Gleave, 73, Ancaster ON, 30 Dec 2010 #10

Copied from dotr’s post in 2011

Police continue to speak with people who knew Audrey. Phil Kinsman says he met with police in early September to address what he says police called “discrepancies” in a polygraph test he took. Detectives have not spoken with him since, he said.

Facts about the cake:

1. It was not a cake, but a stollen.
2. PK claims the cake was a recipe Audrey’s ex used to make.
3. PK claims Audrey requested that the cake be made by PK and/or his wife in lieu of a bought gift for Christmas, and this request occurred well before Christmas…maybe in November, iirc.
4. PK claims Audrey provided the recipe for the cake.
5. PK claims the cake was originally to be taken to Audrey on 12/25 by both him and his wife.
6. PK claims that Audrey canceled the date a couple of days prior to 12/25 because she was feeling ill. (I’m not sure we know if this was by email or phone, but I will try to find out from the early threads.)
7. PK claims he called Audrey on 12/25 to check on her. During this phone call, they agreed to 12/30 at 10am for the cake date. PK alone would be coming for the rescheduled cake date because his wife would be working.
8. PK claims he called Audrey on 12/30 to say he would be late for the cake date.
9. PK makes conflicting claims about the location of the cake when he keyed in the code for the garage…first, it was with him; later, it was in his car.
10. PK claims the cake was in a domed Tupperware-style container.
11. PK claims that he and his wife ate the cake sometime after he arrived home from discovering Audrey’s dead body in her garage.

These are from memory of reading the threads and supporting materials… please feel free to add/correct!! For example, I don’t believe it was ever definitively established that the cake was a whole cake or a slice, but maybe someone else does?

Edit: the rescheduled cake date is 12/30, not 12/27.
Second Edit: added info concerning wife’s work schedule to #7.

"This report details the
design of a rapid prototyping platform for the development of low-power real-time
applications in processing physiological signals. A case study is given, wherein this
work was used to develop an electromyographically controlled hand prosthesis. The
results of this case study are used to demonstrate that the system provides superior
noise and power performance, while maintaining a high degree of customizability and
still meeting the intense processing requirements of even a very sophisticated applica-
tion. The rich functionality and relatively low cost of the proposed system positions
it as an extremely valuable tool in creating the next generation of human interfacing
devices."

PK gives a very romantic (imo) thankyou to AK.

In
addition to these, a deepest appreciation is felt towards Alexandra Todd (soon to
be Alexandra Kinsman) for her support, love, and repeated willingness to forgo date
nights. Finally, the author recognizes God with complete indebtedness as the source
of all strength and insight."

NOTE: PK not only thanks his wife for inspiration but he thanks God. That stood out to me.

This article says PK brought "a piece of cake".
Yes, that is in Jon Wells’ story as well:

“He was bringing her a piece of her favourite cake. It was about 11:00 a.m. He did not go to Audrey’s front door. He always entered through the garage. He carried the cake from his car to the twin automatic garage doors outside. He punched in the code on the keypad. The door rose.”

Just wondering out loud here:

Was anybody else aware of the stollen and Audrey's request besides PK and his wife?

Was the stollen even ever seen?

Since Audrey had been unwell and rescheduled, did PK call her to verify that she was indeed ready for the stollen and a visitor that her dogs did not like or trust?

How did PK know the dogs wouldn't be loose in the house/garage when he keyed in the code if he hadn't spoken with Audrey that morning?

When Audrey didn't answer his "I'm going to be an hour late" call, why didn't he call her again to verify she was home and well enough for company?

Could his whole story just be smoke and mirrors to explain his presence if anyone saw him/his truck at the murder site before she'd been "discovered"?

Did he "find" Audrey because no one else had and it was an excellent way to know what was going on after she'd been killed?

Who asks someone to make a holiday bread cake that takes some time and patience and also provides the recipe from an "ex" when they'd never made one before?

I'm naturally suspicious and I want Audrey to have her Justice so I may be off base, but PK's story has always sounded hinky to me especially with the inconsistencies and the fact that the dogs NEVER stopped barking or nipping at him as long as they'd known him and as often as he'd been there.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

IMO, just because LE hasn't questioned him again doesn't mean he isn't a suspect, just that they have no physical proof to tie him to the murder and nothing to compel harassing him.

We have the same hinky meter, @Catmommy . I think the biggest problem with the case is that it almost has to be circumstantial if there is no good forensic evidence against a specific suspect. Whoever did kill Audrey was given a ginormous gift when the original suspect was charged and jailed. What a great defense! They would have to prove the first guy didn’t do it in addition to proving someone else did, as others have noted. It’s such a shame.

When Audrey was not feeling well, why was LV allowed to bring over soup but PK was told to wait a few days? Audrey could have accepted the cake but, feeling unwell, she might have put it aside for a couple of days.
In the hell/high water email, the cake is not mentioned, as discussed in these threads. Also in that email, Audrey sure seems to want to make sure PK knows she is ill. It seems to me that she would have added something like, “looking forward to seeing you on the 30th” rather than (or in addition to) talking about her coffee club. After all, the email was sent to PK, with whom she ostensibly had plans. Meantime, she saw LV twice in two days while under the weather. V. strange.

Please remind me, come hell or high water, did Audrey meet with the coffee club that week? I don’t recall.
She didn’t have a chance to. She was killed the same day that she sent the email. It was sent in the morning before the soup drop (and LV said she saw Audrey). LE currently believe that she was killed in the afternoon or evening that same day.

I sure hope LE have all of these emails. And phone records.

In one photo, Audrey is in front of her Camaro and the caption says something like - she would take her two dogs for a ride in the car. That tells me that the dogs were quite friendly, not vicious dogs at all. I wonder why they never took to PK? He was there enough.

Rsbm
Others remarked about being uncomfortable around the dogs, including Lynne. But it is odd that, if true, they never warmed up to PK. I tend to think that they did, in fact, warm up to him after all of that time, especially as Audrey was clearly very comfortable with PK. Moo.

It was Audrey's case that brought me to WS. Thoughts:
- have PK's movements been established in between Dec 25 and Dec 30
- since he's the handyman, am I correct in remembering that he volunteered to show LE around the house when they arrived
- was PK's car examined by LE

PK says in the early thread that he was with his wife or at work during that period, but we don’t know that it has ever been or could be corroborated. He looked in the garage at LE’s request to determine if anything was missing, but he says he did not go into the house the day she was found. I don’t recall reading anything about his car being searched.
