roseofsharon I couldn't agree more!:maddening: The silence from LE is disturbing to say the least.

Why Caledon area:
- it's out of the way yet 'close' to Toronto, Hamilton
- it's peaceful - perhaps people are less careful with looking over their shoulders, answering the door, etc.
- maybe there's a group of perps who use that area out of habit/ritual?

There has to be a reason why that area is chosen by killers!

Very, very upsetting. Come on LE, let's get to the bottom of this! SOON!!:ohdear:

From dotr's link above:

However, if he had a reason to be in the area during the Christmas holidays of 2010, he becomes a prime suspect. Now it's just a matter of waiting to see how this plays out. Hopefully we will learn more about Mr. Cafe's background as the story develops. Also the distance from his neighbourhood to Lynden is only 14 KM. It's certainly not impossible.

Interesting..............

Victim 'like a mother to him,' accused killer says

Neighbour accused of killing an elderly grandmother testifies in second trial
"Lyons was reportedly stabbed 90 times in her apartment on Shady Golfway, near Eglinton Avenue East and Don Mills Road in January 2009.

She was found a few days later on Jan. 8., 2009 by her son.

On Wednesday, the father of three told reporters that Lyons was like a mother to him and his daughters, and they would visit her almost daily, helping her with chores."

Hi all --

I'm posting this news here which I also posted on Sonia's and Audrey's threads at UC.

Depressing news again -- although hopefully resolution for someone's family. Remains were found in a ravine adjacent to a Toronto golf course -- yesterday, I think. There is some media speculation these may belong to Miriam Makhniashvili. If so, or whomever it is, may she or he now rest in peace.

TARA WALTON/torstar news service

A Toronto Police Officer stands watch over a taped-off area on the edge of Toronto’s Don Valley Golf Course Thursday near the 401 and Yonge Street. Human remains were found in the area on Tuesday, prompting police to notify the family of missing girl Mariam Makhniashvili. Const. Wendy Drummond of the Toronto Police says finding remains isn’t something that happens often, so they take it very seriously.Inset: Lela Tabidze, mother of missing girl Mariam Makhniashvili.

Lela Tabidze, mother of Mariam Makhniashvili, who mysteriously disappeared in September 2009, said she received a call from Toronto police on Thursday regarding human remains discovered earlier this week.

Police confirmed two youth stumbled upon the remains under a bridge near Highway 401 and Yonge Street on Tuesday. They would not speculate about the gender or age of the deceased.

“It could be something, it could be nothing,” said Tabidze, whose 17-year-old daughter’s disappearance has gripped headlines for the last three years.

Tabidze stressed that police divulged little information, but she’s waiting for news.

“(The call) was just to warn me,” she said.

Police said the remains are being examined by a forensics team and they expect answers regarding the identity soon.

^^^^^^^ I also heard on TV that clothing and belongings were found at the site of the remains. That should give LE some indication of the gender and possibly age of the person.

I have a bad feeling about this one.......

I imagine there are some details at the scene that may lead LE to believe these remains could be Mariam's. Perhaps clothing, early estimates on length of exposure, size of body and location factored in the decision to give notice to Mariam's family. Sonia Varaschin's family was notified when remains were found, and these sadly, in fact, turned out to be Sonia's. But I remember reading of other cases where families were on alert, but the body found was not their relation. So I'm not sure what the protocol for notification is.

I've been wondering if the person could have jumped from the 401 down into that golf course. Would that be possible? And would it be possible for the remains to be hidden in the bushes for 2-3 years from those playing golf?

Or, were the remains put there after death?

Could a body fit in a golfcart?.....

I do wonder if there is a connection between Audrey, Sonia, and Mariam. All three are the children of Eastern European immigrants. Perhaps that seems vague, since there are many immigrant children and high rates of missing women, so perhaps it's a stretch to make this link.

Maybe in/on one of those things golfers drive on the course in.:moo:

Interesting theory 2soccermom, though IIRC, Sonia's mother is either French or French Canadian, and her father is either Italian or from Argentina (Italian descent), so Sonia would not be Eastern European, unless I got the facts wrong.

Perhaps we could also include Margarita (18) to your theory. She was "born in Kazakhstan and I believe she came to Canada when she was 14 years old. She ived with her mother in Toronto, on York Mills Rd., near Highway 401 and the Don Valley Parkway. I believe that area is called North York, and could be close to where the latest remains have been found (under the 401 bridge and Younge St).

Maragarita's body was found about a week after she disappeared, in a wooded area very far from where she was last seen. Her killer (of no fixed address) is now wanted by the Interpol. He is Iranian with Canadian nationality/citizenship -- we have a thread for her here in WS if anyone wants to read about her case:

Margarita Shumakova, 18, Toronto, ON, 3 July 2011 - found in Uxbridge, ON

One common link between MM and SV are the party animal neighbours. SV's mother complained to the Toronto Star Sonia made numerous phone calls to Orangeville LE about party central next door. LE did nothing about it. The college kids next door could have had enough of SV's complaining so they did the unthinkable. W5's Vanished Into Thin Air left me with an uneasy feeling in the MM case. I refuse to explain just in case i'm wrong. What if the cossack of Shallmar street rubbed someone from the party the wrong way and took MM for revenge purposes? Did AG experience problems with party animal college students drinking around her property? My theory is AG,SV,MM were killed for revenge purposes. SV,AG,Vaktang M, told the animal house characters to STFU and they became angry. Very angry.

I have been thinking all morning about the "Amazing Grace" email that Audrey sent out before her death. I remember that here and at UC there has been speculation that this may not have been sent by her at all, but possibly by her abductor/murderer. Is that right -- I mean, does the speculation fit the possible timeline? I can't remember if anyone contested that possibibility. Dotr -- I want to thank you for the document link you posted on Mariam's page about serial predation/killers. It's there I encountered the term "catathymia" for the first time. I am suddenly wondering if the lyrics for "AG" may not, as i first thought, be (only) a possible reference to "AG" hereself ("I once was lost") but to her killer.....

That is, catathymia explains violent behaviour as a "release" response for someone who believes intense anxiety/fear/pain (in themselves) can only be alleviated through violent action. I looked up the lyrics for the song, and this struck me especially:

"when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
a life of joy and peace"

What if "this" is a reference to Audrey and the violent act, and "I" to the violent agent? Again, long ago when I first considered the possibility in reading the boards that perhaps this was a sinister reference sent by AG's killer I assumed it might have been a cruel reference to sending her to "peace"; now I think there's a possibility that idea is "doubled" -- that it is also a reference to the relief/release for a catathymic individual IN the violent act.

ideas?

Hi 2soccermom! We've already discussed the possibility that AG and the song of the same initials are linked. For me, that's not impossible.

I also am firmly thinking this:
- AG's killer had been inside her house with her for some time
- the killer himself sent the e-mail
- the killer had been let willingly by AG into her home

Now, the question becomes this - is the killer one of the people who received the e-mail from AG's computer? The killer could have sent the e-mail to his own computer in order to give him a possible 'out'. Or she.

And I'm still going with 'look young and look close'.

Since NONE of the killings has been solved, I'm becoming more and more certain that Sonia, Shelley and Audrey are victims of the same perp.

Now.......how to make this killer/attacker mess up!

Thanks 2Soccermom, When I first questioned whether the email was a code for something else, I had not thought of the song AG, in terms of the killer's inner (sos) but, I see what you mean. The writer, T.S. Eliot - comes to mind in these first lines of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Hope no one minds the digression (pun intended)...
" Let us go then, you and I, when the evening is spread out against the sky Like a patient etherized upon the table;"...
