Thinking about students who took classes with Audrey at Mohawk College. Most would be 'young' and perhaps lived 'close'. Wondering if she befriended any of them. Or helped them with difficult subject material. Or, did they resent this older person being so intelligent and seemingly knowing it all?

Did she drive a Camaro to Mohawk College? Did she stand out for any other reason there?

Audrey retired from teaching in 2006 and JH indicated he met her at Mohawk in 2003. JW says "Audrey had taken computer studies at Mohawk College in her 60s".

Not sure we know how long she may have attended Mohawk but JH said elsewhere that she acquired her Webmaster's Certificate (not sure when she enrolled or how long that particular achievement takes).

In addition to teaching of her own young students, there was a concurrent period of time while attending Mohawk that she was encountering an additional group of young students.

So Stone, your assignment (should you wish to accept it) is to calculate the number of young people she encountered during what years, and break that out into how many lived close to Audrey and when they did so. :floorlaugh:

Scroll way down and there is mention of friends, presumably from school -who could get annoyed with Audrey.

Ouch ... I see JW's article says that, so I wonder who's right/wrong ?? I didn't pull that out of thin air .. honest !! :)

Since retiring from Hamilton's Westdale Secondary School in 2006, Gleave enjoyed playing tennis, talking about gardening and meeting up with old colleagues for a computer club, neighbour Boyd Sharp recalled.

Gleave taught at Hamilton’s Westdale Secondary School before retiring in 2006.

Gleave was remembered at a service in early January as a caring, compassionate and thoughtful person, as well as a dedicated teacher to her students in Hamilton before she retired in 2006.

hmmm .. need the right info for the timeline

Still wonder what sort of evidence LE was looking for when they tested Audrey's dogs and also would be interesting to know what, if anything was found.

Wishful thinking here, but would be nice if they'd found skin and bones in those big ol' jaws.

PK told us when he was in the house prior to cleanup, it didn't appear the dogs had been left unattended for any length of time. Grotty here, but it is possible that there wasn't any because stool was removed for testing for drugs, food, human DNA.

PS: Thinking of little Schatze gone over the Rainbow Bridge and wondering how Togi is doing these days. My 14+ y.o. female shepherd looked just like Schatze, and we had to say our sad goodbyes a few weeks ago. I also have a big male left without his gal, so he gets double-the-hugs and extra cookies now. Not sure who needs them more.

Okay .. feel like an idiot here ... just read back and see it was Togi that died, not Schatze. Nice of all you folks not to correct me, LOL.

Arghhh ... maybe billy needs a rest.

[modsnip] If Audrey took the same webmasters course as JH, and started in 2003 as a night student (or maybe she also started in 2002 but JH didn't become friends with her until 2003), then she would have been a student at Mohawk for around 5 years. That's a good chunk of time. I would think she would have crossed paths with some young people, and may have developed some friendship and casual acquaintances.

A little mistake is always better than nothing! You don't need a rest but posting some news, won't you?!

To which group of people we haven't thought except

friends (young, older, old - male/female)
students (young, older, old - male/female - school/college, attending by day/night)
neighbours (young, older, old - male/female)
physicians
ex-es
craftsmen
??????????????????????????????????

Again, just a reminder. We do not sleuth people who are not named as suspects by LE. Not friends, not neighbors, not students, etc. You can discuss possibilities but we do not identify a select individual. It is against TOS. :tos:

 • #811
Sorry Lambchop and Salem. I'm really not trying to sleuth anyone in particular, I swear lol. I WILL get the hang of this, I promise :)

 • #812
That's okay, Paragirl. Just keep it to general information. I know there is not much that hasn't already been discussed but until there is a break in the case there isn't really much to discuss.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to express this regret, but:
with Audrey's interest in computer-intruders and de-bugging hobby & expertise, and her feelings of being afraid to be out alone at night (all of which have been previously discussed here on WS), I might have thought she could have installed surveillance systems surreptitiously on her property. Or maybe she would have considered such an action ridiculous. But drat I wish she'd had cameras.

 • #814
Interesting post 2soccermom.

We don't know for sure if AG had cameras or not. Did LE find evidence that one or more had existed at one time? Cameras that were dismantled? That would point to the perp was known to AG and fit with some theories that someone spent considerable time in her home 27 Dec 2010 to whenever. If AG had a surveillance camera, would she trust or not trust her handyman to know she had one?

On the de-bugging hobby and expertise - AG could put together a TV before most women were thinking of doing that, so did she graduate to computer viruses to be current? I would give her credit for that, but do not know for sure what her thinking was.

On the computer intruders - again we have heard AG had such concerns, but we also know many people had e-mail contact with her under a different name. Do we know exactly what the concern was?

Just putting a spin or doubt on what we have heard vs what we know.

I sure you may have already discussed this awhile ago but let me ask because the information would be new to me. Was it possible that somehow Audrey discovered something she wasn't suppose to through her computer?

A while back, Stone asked if someone could send an email from a remote computer that appeared to be from Audrey; dotr responded it could be done "especially if a 'bot/virus' is installed":

Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - Canada -Audrey Gleave, 73, murdered in her home, Ancaster ON, 30 Dec 2010 #7

We do know Audrey's male friends to be very knowledgeable about computers. My recollection of it being PK who sent AG the virus may be wrong .. MSM articles I find now only refer to it being a "friend". Whomever the friend is, it appears they spoke to the media, so LE must know who they are and should be enquiring precisely WHAT computer virus was sent to AG, and determine if that particular virus is, or is similar to, a bot virus that would allow remote control of Audrey's computer.

ETA: That was computer viruses plural:

She became a computer whiz, ultimately asking a friend to email her viruses so she could study them

Google is acting up tonite and I can see the hits but the links won't work. This will have to do for now (very first hit):

Thinking of Audrey having given hints on how to achieve higher rankings on google, and it occurred to me that "search engine optimization" (SEO) concepts and how to implement them would most likely be part and parcel of any webmaster certificate course that Audrey and her fellow Mohawk students would have taken.

Example under "Topic Outline":

In the paper today LE warn of yet another scam, one that Audrey would be unlikely to fall for, but one she might imo court.

For example, a very brilliant but fanatic bible 'expert" older woman I used to know , loved to be accosted by religious groups at her door.
She enjoyed the opportunity to challenge the other 'experts" knowledge and to show off her superior rapid-fire bible quoting skills. Then, she would try to convert them to her sect as they scrambled to get away from the door and her!

bbm.
"The grandparent scam isn’t the only trick up fraudsters’ sleeves.

York Regional Police recently warned the public of two other scams: The tech support scam and the merchant scam.

In the first one, people — usually elderly homeowners — receive a call from a fake tech company representative who convinces them they have a virus that requires attention.

Once the bogus technician has access to the computer, they either lock up the computer and demand money for repairs or install key-logging software to retrieve online banking information
.

In the merchant scam, a person will use stolen credit card information to place an order. Then they’ll pick up the goods through a third party without physically showing a credit card or identification.

“If a card is not present, the merchant is on the hook for the money,” Det.-Const. Paul Jodoin said"

Lambchop, yes, there have been discussions in earlier threads with speculation about Audrey possibly having been dating online, or even doing business online, and a clandestine meeting having gone terribly wrong as a result of either. Further to that, a valid suggestion has been made that after two summers of employment at Chalk River, as a rare (if not altogether unique!) female physics student at the master's level, Audrey might have become involved in intrigue of some kind there. The strange disappearance and death of AECL physicist Lachlan Cranswick, in Deep River, fueled some wondering whether that and Audrey Gleave's murder could be connected - to what extent? - and about Cold War significance.

HTH!

Oh, wow. Now that is scary.
