I don't mean to seem judgmental, however I do find it interesting that one who would pursue the substantial expense, years of life/time, and hard work to obtain a Master's degree, (with further plans to the point of enrolling in a PhD Engineering program), could be happy and content to play second fiddle in a foodie business. Not a menial job, by any means, and always interesting to co-own a business, for sure, but I might expect such a motivated person of obviously high intelligence who seems to value higher education, to at least want to invest in becoming a certified chef in their own right, perhaps making it seem somewhat *more* of a partnership, and less likely to potentially appear as perhaps having less say under someone else? Jmo.

revisiting this... I see in the timeline for Audrey, she didn't finish her masters degree as well. I don't think it's uncommon.

The morning of Monday Dec 27th was the last communication that one of AG’s friends had with her, according to him.

At that time, she sent him an email describing in quite a bit of detail, her ailments, and also her insistence that she would attend her weekly coffee group two days later, no matter what.

Then three days later, PK goes to the house with her favorite cake, made especially for her.

Since the two obviously communicated via email, and email is so fast and easy, wouldn't it have made sense to contact her ahead of time to make sure that, (especially during the Christmas season when AG may have other friends who would get together with her), one, she felt well enough to receive a visitor, and two, that she didn't have another visitor, or/and plans to go out?

I understand that he may have wanted to surprise her, and logistically it made sense for him to ‘kill two birds with one stone’ by dropping it off after taking his wife to work, but wouldn't the cake be surprise enough? And presumably, he might have been picking his wife up later on in the day, or dropping her again the following day, so the killing of two birds with one stone at that time would have simply been convenient, rather than mandatory.

Would one presume that she would have no other plans? Was that how their visits historically occurred, or were they normally mutually agreed upon times that were convenient for *both* parties?

IF I remember well, he had an appointment with AG re the cake but he was a little late.

I think his masters degree (M.A.Sc. Thesis - Ph* J. K*man) he reached in very short time (different to AG)? But afterwards and coincidentally after AG's murder all things changed somehow. Initial co-owner of myApollo (founding insert very high), then exit from company and selling his share, then catering with his wife.
Did he only study because of A's intensive pushing??

I have been revisiting... but I'm unsure how we know that AG did not complete her master's degree.. can someone point me? tia

FG, where are you seeing that PK started that company (mA) *prior* to commencing the cafe/catering biz? My research so far, indicates that it came afterwards (and that he is still involved in it as the co-owner to this day, although it has had a few iterations).

I know it is said in MSM that PK started a business, (giving up his pursuit of his PhD, which program he had already enrolled in); and then he 'sold' it, using the proceeds to fund the startup for his wife's cafe/catering biz (and all of that occurred within the one year immediately following AG's death!).

I have, so far, not been able to find info on his first business.

I *really* hope that LE had AG's computers/internet usage thoroughly examined by duly qualified forensic IT specialists. It seems there may be a wealth of information contained therein (assuming that AG did not delete her emails on a regular basis? - even if so, might they still have existed on the email host's servers?)

I wonder if AG had a habit of failing to answer the phone?

PK had said the arrangements regarding delivery of the cake were in emails. But then he went on to say that the *new arrangement* (to deliver on the morning of the 30th) was by phone. And then when he was running late, he notified her also by phone (although she failed to answer, obviously).

Is it interesting that the cake plans are verifiable via emails, but that the final cake plan is not verifiable since done by phone?

"@ dotr (#523)
- Some quick info about the scheduling of time to drop off the cake. I had originally planned to visit AG on Christmas day but she had emailed me a day or two prior to call it off because she was so sick. So, on Christmas day I called her to check in and that's when we set the definite time to get together around 10am on Thursday for me to drop it off. …"

You are right, thank you! :blushing: Seemingly I didn't remember the date of founding well. When I searched for it I was verrry perplexed to see 2013 as the founding year. Unfortunately I didn't find the article I remembered - seems to have disappeared.

It is on the time line, but in this article it says:
Audrey was 73, a retired high school teacher and, many years ago, a master’s student in nuclear physics at McMaster University.

https://www.thespec.com/news-story/2215939-who-is-audrey-gleave/

So this tells me she never finished her master's degree.

Thank you for the link. I will quote the relevant section below. I find that really odd that AG would have left something incomplete like that. Not saying that she didn't, just that I wouldn't have ever guessed that she would have abandoned her Masters part way through like that, given all that I have read about her. jmo.

Quoted from the link above:

"Otte changed her name to Audrey as a teenager. ...

By 1960, Tony had moved the family to 11 Beulah Avenue, off Aberdeen Avenue near Dundurn Street. At 23, Audrey worked as a clerk at Bell, and in 1964 was enrolled in science at McMaster University.

In first year at McMaster she met Allan Gleave, who was six years her junior and studying engineering. Allan had attended Hill Park Secondary School, his father was a purchasing agent for Firestone, and his uncle, also named Allan, was a Hamilton police officer.

....

Before getting married, Audrey had been on track for a career in nuclear physics — an uncommon vocation for a woman in the 1960s. She graduated with a bachelor of science in 1966 from McMaster and began work on a master’s degree in physics.

She worked two summers for Atomic Energy of Canada at the nuclear laboratories in Chalk River, 180 kilometres west of Ottawa. A densely academic article published in 1967 lists “A. Doveika” as one of the authors. The title: Compendium of Thermal Neutron Capture Ray Measurements.

....

Her career as a nuclear physicist did not pan out, either by choice or necessity. One family member said she was denied a permanent job at Chalk River because of concerns about the consequences of working in a nuclear energy environment if she were to become pregnant.

She did not complete her master’s program. Instead, she announced to Allan one day she would teach high school science. There was no discussion about her reasons.

Her first school was Hill Park, later Barton Secondary and then Westdale.

...."

I hope LE has cross referenced this case with Dellen Millard. In reviewing DM's current and previous case, I noted a few similarities:

1. He loved camero cars as did Audrey.
2. A stranger was seen walking up to the Gleave home wearing a backpack--odd since there usually weren't pedestrians on that road.
3. LE received an encrypted letter pointing to other suspects. DM tends to write encrypted letters. Hope LE compared the grammar use and if in handwriting/printing that.
4. DM and his minions were into thievery 2011/2012. Not unusual to have scoped a place out before stealing.

Just putting that out there.

Good points....and I don't think you are the first person here to consider that possibility!
Millard has been on the radar, at least here on WS.

Thanks.
In 2011 the hangar wasn't built in Waterloo yet, but there were meetings to get it started.
He bought his farm in early 2011. So he travelled around the area.Thieving going on who knows how long. Do you know more of the history of Audrey's cars? I think SS was showing a '68 camero. Wonder where it came from?

Has anyone ever checked into whether other females were ever not allowed a permanent job at Chalk River due to potential of pregnancy?

Would love to see the "cryptic" letters LE received.

It would not be surprising if rules like that were explicitly in place at the time Audrey worked there, considering this recent document, imo speculation.

April 2011
Darlington Nuclear Project
.
Studies have linked human-produced radiation with cancers, genetic damage, birth defects, mental disability due to in utero exposure, immune system dysfunction and diabetes. There is the fear of the large-scale accident or meltdown that has made Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and now Fukushima part of the common lexicon. But the real danger of radiation may well prove to be the chronic low-level exposures the effects of which are poorly understood, particularly in children. If for no other reason, this cries out for application of the precautionary principle. As Dr. Vakil concludes: “Providing the least radioactivity in the environment, water and food seems the most prudent advice”.

While there are relatively few Canadian studies on the deleterious effects of low levels of radiation on health, there is evidence linking increased prevalence of leukemia in children and living near nuclear facilities. Higher rates of congenital abnormalities have also been documented. A 2008 German study (KiKK study) showed a statistically significant relationship between risk of leukemia and living within ten kilometres of a nuclear plant with consistent results across all 16 nuclear power plants in Germany.

While there is no definitive evidence in Canada linking nuclear reactors and harm to human health because of small sample sizes, three studies conducted by the Atomic Energy Control Board (AECB) in Ontario provide reason for concern. Two of the studies in 1989 and 1991 examined childhood leukemia within a 25 km radius of nuclear facilities in Ontario, including the Chalk River research centre, the Port Hope uranium processing plant, Elliot Lake uranium mining and Pickering and Bruce electricity generation. The third study looked at childhood leukemia and paternal radiation exposure. In the initial studies, more cases of childhood leukemia were consistently found at each location except Chalk River, though the overall numbers were small.

What cryptic letters?

I think Claroon may be referring to this:

" "Everyone we have talked to has been co-operative but there's a difference between being co-operative and telling the truth," she says.
Detectives continue working the case and receive occasional tips from the public.

They followed-up on a Crime Stoppers tip recently, and also on an anonymous and cryptic letter mailed to a Hamilton Spectator reporter that pointed the finger at two alleged suspects. Neither tip panned out.

Stewart says they have monitored information and theories on crime sleuthing social media websites. Most of it is far-fetched, but sometimes it's useful. "
