He is her biological father.

I'm sad :( I watched a couple of you-tube videos, and I don't profess to know all the details surrounding this case.

However, it appears there is no sign of abuse on this precious child, and she merely wandered away from home. That in itself can be labeled as abuse, but she is 9 years old (and not a toddler).

She is now being drugged (1 being given is 2x the recommended dosage).

IMHO if you take a child out of a secure and trusting environment, there is going to be ramifications -- which is probably why she is being drugged.

In regards to the dad, he does seem rather calm about the whole situation, and that bothers me as well. I'd be as mad as a wet hornet - you couldn't keep me from sleeping out front of the offices, or staging a huge protest.

I hope A is returned to her home where she should feel safe and sound. Knowing that she is non-communicative makes that so very hard to determine. I would hope family members, the mother, and friends could come forward to testify about that.

Sad all the way around.

MOO

Hi, I just wanted to admit to the post on wrongplanet which is a web site for people with autism and aspergers. The woman you are talking about, the one who is a local does not mention what she has heard (gossip) so its really nothing but people gossiping which is typical in stuff like this. I still DO support this child being returned to her home. I have Asperger's and I have two young children with autism. What I do not support is the Facebook web site that is now teeming with anti vaccine and chelation therapy and biomedical treatment pro cure people. I am pro vaccine and I believe that Autism is a metabolic syndrome that you are born with, it is not caused by vaccines or any other crazy thing like "cord clamping". I think it is wrong to deny your children life saving vaccines because it is not a personal decision it is a decision that could affect the life of the newborn baby next door to you and the rest of the children that are around your child. There is now huge outbreaks of measles and whooping cough due to these type of radicals. There was even a post on the FB page where a woman said that she would rather have polio than severe autism. This was very upsetting and ignorant. There are many "severe" autistics who are highly intelligent and and insightful people with ideas that are just as viable and needed as people who can speak. Even though, non verbal these people can communicate through typing, sign language or other electronic devices. I feel that this case is a discrimination case against Autistic children and people. If the Ministry felt that he could not care for his child why did they not just give him assistance. I also support him not going to see her as she would not understand why she could not go home and would have to relive the trauma over and over every time he visited. Im sure this is a very difficult decision but I think its the right decision and shows that he is not selfish and he is thinking only of his child.

If this father has Munchausen by Proxy, he would be a rarity indeed. Almost always, that's a disorder attributed to mothers. I can't find it right now but I once read that there was a case of a father with MBP and it turned out that he was a single parent and gay. Quite intriguing. It's also far more common in families with adopted children. Some adoptive mothers seek out very ill children and then exacerbate the children's illnesses through medical manipulation. Does anyone know if this little girl is this man's biological child or his adopted child?

As an aside, concerning meds and children in the system, one of our adopted children almost died when he left his mother's care and entered the system. She lied about the amount of meds he was taking. When the little guy went into foster care, the foster parents continued with the meds they were told he'd been taking. Only problem was that he'd not been on any of them. He almost died of an overdose of lithium. He literally got slammed with the dose and has permanent neurological damage from the event. My heart just breaks for the foster parents who were simply doing as they were directed. They were flat out lied to by the mother. Lies always hurt children.

I am amazed a doctor prescribed lithium for a minor without seeing the prior prescription (bottle w/label, doctors order) and a current lab drawn lithium level. To me, the doctor in this situation is somewhat responsible.

Oh, this is Canada? Does an MD prescribe meds in the CPS system there? To me, if I was a doctor, I would need more evidence that this child was on this medicine at this dose before my name would go on anything. But the US & Canada may do it differently.

December 2012:

Single dad Derek Hoare has spent 18 months fighting the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) to return his autistic daughter home.

Last week, they signed an agreement to do so, just three days before the trial on the matter was to begin...

Hoare said the ministry has agreed to pay for intensive in-home support for Ayn and one of her siblings, who also has autism.

Hmmm... The rumours posted in the wrongplanet forum were that the girl was removed because her dad refused to accept help for her. So maybe he has finally backed down and agreed to accept the help, and that is why she was to be returned.
