Body found in wooded area off Highway 400, Barrie

There is a heavy police presence along Highway 400 in Barrie near Bayfield Street as officers and several crime units investigate the discovery of a body.

Police say the body of an adult was found in a wooded area just off the highway on Monday afternoon.

Police aren’t commenting on the age or gender of the deceased.

They say it's too early to confirm if foul play is suspected.

A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Forensic and criminal investigations units are at the location.

UPDATE: Police identify body found in woods near Highway 400 in Barrie
"The body of a 40-year-old man was discovered in a wooded area near the southbound Highway 400 on-ramp at Bayfield Street June 24, Barrie police confirm.

At about 2:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a deceased man found in a heavily wooded area to the north of the on-ramp. An investigation by the department’s criminal investigation division and forensic identification unit led to the identification of the man.

Next of kin has been notified, police spokesperson Peter Leon said."

"A post-mortem was scheduled to take place Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing.

Simcoe.com attended the scene Monday afternoon and noticed police searching two tents — one orange in colour, the other blue and grey — that had been set up in the woods. A shed and bicycle could also be seen nearby. Police took a stretcher further into the bush to carry the remains to a waiting van."
