Taken 2001

On June 4, 2005 a man attended the Victoria Police Department and reported not seeing Belinda Cameron for over one month. He told police Belinda had mentioned wanting to visit relatives in Vancouver and Manitoba but did not provide names to police. This man reported sharing an intimate relationship with Belinda outside of his own marriage. He said she was not a habitual runaway. This man denied harming Belinda and through a Polygraph examination was determined to be honest. The Victoria Police investigated Belinda's disappearance and determined that Belinda suffered from a mental illness, had a drug addiction and may have been a sex trade worker. The last confirmed sighting of Belinda was at Shoppers Drug Mart at 870 Esquimalt Rd. She failed to attend thereafter to pick up her daily medication.

<<She is a cigarette smoker – Players Light brand. Belinda also has suffers from and unspecified mental illness that requires daily medication. She suffers from substance addiction and has allegedly engaged in survival sex work.

Details About Belinda & Her Case: Belinda originated from a First Nations community in Manitoba. She had an ex-husband that she stopped speaking to three years prior to her disappearance. Her two daughters were placed in foster care several years earlier by Belinda’s choice, as she wanted them to have better lives.

Modeste Smoke Shop on Admirals Road was a store Belinda frequently visited. She was typically taken to the shop via car by a male friend. An employee of the store recalled Belinda being friendly, outgoing, and would say hello to anyone beside her in line. However, she’d sometimes show up at the store looking lethargic and depressed, presumably because she wasn’t taking her medication.>>

<<When police searched Belinda’s apartment on 713 Cairn Road, she left behind an uncashed disability cheque and her First Nations status card. It was out of character for Belinda to not have her status card, because she used it to buy cigarettes.>>
