I wonder what happened to Ben's truck and trailer ?
Did LE process them before they both went back to Wyoming with Jack ? I am assuming Jack took them.

Reposting the reference to Saturday night.

“Local hunter Kim Robinson, the man who tracked down Allan Schoenborn when he was at large for nine days back in 2008, told the Herald he found Tyner’s horse early Monday morning, around 5:30 a.m.

“It took me about 20 minutes to get him because he was pretty jumpy — something happened to him. He only had one rein,” Robinson said. “But I caught him and tied him up to a tree.”

Robinson called a few local cowboys at that time to notify them.

“When they called me back at 12:30 p.m. — this really pissed me off — they told me that it was the manager of the Nicola Ranch’s horse, who had been missing since Saturday night. I don’t know why nobody knew.”...”
UPDATE: Ben Tyner confirmed missing by Nicola Ranch - Merritt Herald
Yet another reference to Saturday night timeline, this time seemingly from Ranch personnel. The idea that nobody (supposedly) knew he was missing really strikes me. IMO/JMO And hinky meter related, fwiw.

Here's one account of where the horse was found.

https://www.columbiavalleypioneer.c...-merritt-cowboy-now-deemed-suspicious-police/

"Tyner was reported missing on Jan. 28 when his riderless horse was found on a logging road off Highway 97 near Winnie Flats in Merritt. Originally from Wyoming, Tyner was a manager at Nicola Ranch."

My notes, from previous MSM reports - Also, KR, a hunter who caught the horse and called it in made a statement that he had been out in the area for a few days and never saw no tracks from the ranch. Also that he did track Ben's horse back from where it came and ended up losing the trail because apparently Gunny had been hanging with wild horses for a bit, until probably chased off by them.

There are articles posted in this thread previously for all of the above. If you need, I'll try to find them.
Quoting myself and first correcting my double negative. It was late when I posted the above, but I did find an article with comments from KR.

Missing cowboy leaves no trace - Merritt Herald

There is no sign of Tyren coming from the ranch, Robinson stressed.

“But now I think they believe because that horse would have had to fly from Nicola Ranch to get where I found him without leaving a track,” Robinson said. “I would say it is almost 100 per cent impossible for anybody to leave that ranch and try and hide their tracks and be successful.”

"
Police told Global News they have been investigating the possibility that the horse was driven into the area with a truck and trailer, but said Wednesday they had not made contact with anyone who may have transported the animal.

“I tried to tell them that Monday night when the police stopped me from going up there, that is why I went around the mountain,” Robinson said. “I told the search and rescue up there ‘Don’t waste your time and energy looking in this direction because a horse did not come from [the Nicola Ranch side of the mountain].”

Good question. We never heard.
I do recall Jack’s friend traveled to Ca to ride back to WY with him. Would LE release the trailer if they thought it had Ben used in a crime? On the legit FB, I recall Jacks friend didn’t arrive in Ca until about time the Tyner family were leaving. Makes me wonder if he drove his own unit from WY?

Yup, this has always been the big puzzle piece. Who hauled Gunny?

Another interesting piece from early MSM reports

https://www.terracestandard.com/new...r-missing-cowboy-in-merritt-over-the-weekend/

All BBM

Robinson says the gelding was “a little bit jumpy” and one of its reins was broken.

The horse was dressed up nice. It had a good saddle and stuff on it. It was somebody who was riding it who knew about horses and knew about riding.”

Tyner was last seen Saturday afternoon and police say it’s unclear when he set out on his horse because he was on his days off.

RCMP said earlier this week that other ranchers believe Tyner rode to an area known as Swakum Ridge, northwest of Merritt, and may have been searching for stray cattle belonging to the ranch.

I find it revealing NR owner hired Ben, rather than promoting from within. Very telling, imo! Either no one at NR wanted to move up or no one met the qualifications.
Moo
I think the latter.

I wonder if Ben realized NR has a lot of cattle missing?
The subject of “searching for strays” may be partially true.
Had Ben uncovered some info that was not favorable for someone?

Speculation, moo, etc.

Can someone enlighten me on WHO was running the ranch after
the previous mgr. was let go? Surely someone on site was in
charge of things. was it one of the ranch hands? the ranch owner?
was the owner absentee? And again, WHY was the previous mgr.
let go?
Maybe the ranch had been bleeding money for quite a while.
Since they sold off the haying operation (which to me doesn't make since they now have to buy back their own hay). Poor management?
Wonder who audits the books? Who manages the ranch manager?

Bradner R Farms assumes haying operation at Nicola Ranch - Merritt Herald

Old article.

I don't know who owns the Nicola Ranch, that's not published anywhere. Unless the owner wants to make it known, it's the kind of info that locals may know but it stays private.

IMO the owner is not likely to live locally. Sometimes these places are owned by, eg, Japanese investment companies or something equally remote, given the amount of money needed to buy such a large amount of land.

I agree with Trudie that there's always the possibility, if there's an absentee owner, that things might be happening under the table and an outsider is brought in to clean things up.

However, people stealing don't normally take such drastic action, unless they have serious mental health problems or are part of a ruthless gang. Fortunately, most people know that murdering someone will not solve their problems and will instead make things infinitely worse. However, anything is possible, for example if Ben had confronted and fired someone that day, and they became violent.

I know there was a report earlier that previous manager left of own free will, after many years. No one would have been booted out for Ben, in this case.

Not sure about the time differential between that and when Ben took over. I would bet the interview process would take some time, probably an in-person meetup and survey of the area, ranch, references, etc.

And there are different mangers on the ranch, as in office manager, hay farm manager and ranch manger. What might the hierarchy be in this case and would someone already on staff manage the ranch until the replacement (eventually Ben) took over?

This article from 2017 in the local paper is interesting, the previous manager didn't think a new manager would be necessary:

"The ranch will retain a full-time cowboy crew of four to manage its cattle, Williams said.
It’s also keeping a full-time lawns and maintenance person and an officer administrator, he said.
....Williams said he doesn’t think his position as ranch manager will be refilled as it will be redundant with the leasee."
Bradner R Farms assumes haying operation at Nicola Ranch - Merritt Herald

So maybe the ranch that was running the haying was overseeing the cattle business too? Doesn't sound very workable to me.

I'm imagining a tight group of local guys who've worked together for years, most of them are abruptly laid off, eventually half get their jobs back, but the rest are unemployed and then this highly paid outsider is brought in. I've worked in organizations where this has happened and it's ugly. But again, never lead to murder. It could cause some loyalty conflicts, though.

I know there was a report earlier that previous manager left of own free will, after many years.

This article indicates he was laid off:

"Williams, however, will be leaving the farm in the summer after a transitional period helping Bradner R Farms get up to speed with the operation, and is one of the four still out of a job."

Merritt is not a prosperous area, it's been shedding jobs badly over the last few years.

I see that. I'm not sure he needed to stay though. Here's an article from 2008 that says he has been a ranch manger for 26 years. And your article is from April 2017. He helped transition someone that summer (who might that have been?). Because Ben didn't start until late fall 2018.

So MW has been a ranch manger for 35 years already at this time.

PressReader.com - Your favorite newspapers and magazines.

You have to search for the article because it's from 2008. Says he was a farmer for 30 years and a ranch manager for 26. Not sure if entirely on Nicola Ranch

If you google this, it will come up, but my point is still would he have been upset that Ben was hired a year and a half later? Was he headed for retirement anyway? (which is what I previously saw reported.
