''Today, Teston Road in Vaughan is a well-travelled, four-lane road, bustling with thousands of commuters. But 30 years ago, it was just a long stretch of dirt road bisecting the rural landscape.

It was a lonely final resting place for Benita Tarantino, 17, whose body was discovered on October 28, 1985. She was identified three days later.

When she was killed, Benita was working as a prostitute in the Cabbagetown neighbourhood of Toronto. She was last seen in the early morning hours of September 28, 1985 near the intersection of Pembroke and Gerrard Streets, where she worked. ''

''Investigators believe she got into a vehicle which drove away. Sadly, she never returned and her murder is yet to be solved.''

What upheaval in her life lead her to be a sex worker at 17? She should have been in high school, hanging out with her friends, and playing on a team. Benita must have had a sad life.

It seems like every city that is heavily populated has an issue with prostitutes being murdered. I hope the detectives are correct that the murders are not connected to a single killer, as was the case in the late 1960s to 1980 with Peter Sutcliffe (Yorkshire Ripper) and Richard Cottingham (Times Square Killer). It was difficult for detectives to link the different murders to a single killer because their weapon of choice changed depending on the situation. It is hopeful that the DNA collected from the crime scenes will be matched in the future, especially with the current and popular DNA-specific services like Ancestry.com and 23andMe.
