GUILTY Canada - Bomb explodes at Winnipeg law firm, 3 July 2015

.

I am near Winnipeg as we speak and have no inside information on this case. It is an unfortunate situation , obviously somebody is expressing themselves with anger and violence .

As wrong as that is we must acknowledge that there is a flaw in our divorce system that is milked to the maximum by some lawyers and they do it for the fees they can bill by stirring emotions in the client.

Bottom line in divorce court it comes down to a reasonably fair division of marital property once the judge makes his final ruling. Nobody is completely satisfied and each divorcee feels skinned and cheated , but that is to be expected. It is a lose-lose situation , never a win-win situation

Whether rich or poor , whether you have the best lawyer or a lousy one , does not matter all that much when the judge makes his ruling , the lawyers know that yet they convince each party to go for the max and THEY suck most of the funds out of the marital assets.

I should also mention something troubling , I have relatives who worked for the government for 35 years examining Lawyers documents for accuracy , pretty routine stuff to do with real estate and property registry.

Thru the years they were notified whenever a lawyer was dis-barred , it was a rare occurrence , often attributable to old age, dementia , poor bookkeeping or accounting , poor legal practices , rarely for anything illegal or terribly unethical

However in recent years it has become all too common to see many dis-barred for things that were unheard of years ago. I wish that was not true , it troubles me deeply , it is like our society is sliding into the abyss

Three cheers for the good and honest lawyers , most of them are , and you will find they avoid divorce cases like the plague

Best wishes

You can search the Manitoba Queen's Bench Registry by the bad guy's name and see his divorce and civil info.

From what I can tell the divorce started around 2004 and still not finished ??? wow.

Good police work.

I really thought there would be a connection with her boyfriend, the disbarred lawyer. But, that doesn't seem to be the case.

All the best to her as she recovers. As devastating as it is to lose a hand, she will be able to continue with her livelihood.

I'm sure the people who deliver packages are uneasy, as well as people who have been involved in the perp's life.

In one article, it said he and his ex-wife have a "numbered company." What is that?

"Police say Amsel targeted law firms that had represented himself or his ex-wife in the past, and they warn that other packages may be delivered to lawyers or justice officials in the city.

"Police are imploring extreme caution if any suspicious packages are discovered," the city police service said in a release late Sunday.

Amsel has been remanded in custody, and police say they are continuing to search a business and a residence linked to the suspect.

Court records show he went through a divorce that dragged on for years, and was also sued by his ex-wife. In both cases, Amsel's ex-wife was represented by Mitousis, who remains in hospital in stable condition with serious injuries to her upper body".

"Winnipeg police investigate reports of suspicious package at Canada Post depot"

" Winnipeg police investigating the bombing of a law firm say if there are any more suspicious packages in the mail they will likely be found in the next day or so.

So far three bombs have been found and police were investigating reports of a suspicious package discovered at a Canada Post depot in the city Monday morning.

One bomb blew up on Friday seriously injuring a lawyer, Maria Mitousis, 38. Two others bombs were detonated by police on the weekend with no injuries.

Guido Amsel, 49, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and other offences. Police believe he was targeting his ex-wife and the lawyers who were involved in a lengthy legal dispute between the couple.

Officers were warning any justice officials who have had contact with Amsel to be cautious with the mail they received on Thursday and Friday.

Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman said police likely saved lives with their work over the weekend tracking down a suspect."

Just heard that fire trucks are at the Richardson Bldg.

Police and fire are on the corner of Bannerman and St. Cross. There is a mailbox on that corner.

Unrelated to the recent bombing , but same law office ....

Lawyer Jack King (now deceased) was a partner at the King-Petersen Law office.

He was caught in a scandal trying to get one of his clients to have sex with his wife who is a Judge.

At least three Winnipeg women were specifically targeted by "sophisticated" bombs sent through Canada Post – and police believe there may be other potential victims yet to be discovered.

According to court documents, the bombs were concealed in "a small grey voice recorder."

One was sent to his former lawyer , one to his ex-wife , and one to her lawyer (Mitousis) .

The Free Press reviewed the thick file on Monday, which began in 2004 when Amsel filed for divorce against his wife, Iris. The couple had married in Germany in 1988 but stopped living together in 2003. They were parents of a son, Kyle, born in 1995.

"There has been a permanent breakdown of our marriage," Guido wrote in his affidavit. He cited "unhappy differences" between the couple. At the time, Guido was represented by lawyers Lori Douglas and Andrew Swan. Douglas would go on to become a Manitoba judge embroiled in a nude photo scandal, while Swan most recently served as provincial justice minister.

Injured Winnipeg lawyer Maria Mitousis undeterred by bombing

"The Winnipeg lawyer seriously injured by a package-bomb explosion on Friday says the incident hasn't weakened her desire to practice law, and she plans to return to her job as soon as she can.

Maria Mitousis passed that message along to Sophia Mirza, president of the Manitoba Bar Association, who shared it with CBC News on Tuesday morning.

In her message, Mitousis also said she appreciates all the love and concern people have expressed.

"It's really important that she wants people to know that she's going to be right back in the game as soon as she is up to it and that she hasn't lost her passion in that respect," said Mirza."

Wonder what lawyer will take on the criminal case.

The new wife's Facebook is gone. I feel sorry for her and the kids. Wonder what will happen to them.

Closing Arguments are underway in the trial of accused letter bomber Guido Amsel.

Amsel is facing multiple counts of attempted murder and explosives-related charges after letter bombs were sent to his ex-wife and two Winnipeg law firms in July 2015. One of the bombs detonated, seriously injuring lawyer Maria Mitousis.

Defence counsel Saheel Zaman said Amsel "has maintained his not guilty plea. Our position is, he is not guilty."
