''A boy is accused of trying to force his way into an elderly woman’s Whitby apartment while brandishing a knife – and he’s only 13 years old.
Durham Regional Police say officers responded to a call involving a male armed with a knife at an apartment building located at 712 Rossland Rd. E. around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
“The male attended the 12th floor of the building and knocked on the door of an elderly woman’s apartment,” Const. Emily Mitchell said Wednesday.
“Once she answered, he held the knife and demanded she exit the unit. The woman refused and was able to close the door.”
The male fled through the back of the building and was last seen walking south on Teddington Cr.
Police have previously said the incident appeared to be “a random act.”
''A 13-year-old boy now faces a charge of assault with a weapon. He was released on an undertaking.
He cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.''
