''The rotund landscaping ghoul and former travelling sock salesman is reportedly in failing health and death may come sooner than later.''

“Other than if you believe he’s responsible for the gay strip murders in the 1970s… and many people do… there’s this huge gap in his life from the late 1970s to when he came out of the closet in the early 1990s,” said cold case expert Michael Arntfield, a professor at Western University.

“You have to remember, he was doing his killing carefully, successfully. That didn’t happen over night.”

This murder victim, found in 1989, has the earmarks of Bruce McArthur victims. OPP

I don't know how to take this article. There are likely true elements to it...with upper brass dumping blame on regular officers.

But, I do wonder if this guy actually stood up for the gay victim(s).
I also wonder about Warmington (the writer of the article) himself. Warmington has not exactly been a supporter of minority victims. One case, where a woman of east Indian descent, disappeared, and he quickly dropped the story. Another time, he seemed to be blaming immigrants, given refugee space in a hotel. When I asked him, he never responded.
No matter...pls let people be safe.

Bruce M is referenced briefly in this article in which Det. Idsinga is investigating the possibility that two recent murders may be related, possibly by a serial killer.
Unrelated to Bruce M, just noting that the two recently murdered men are bearded and darker complected, not unlike BM's victims.
If it turns out to be true that an sk is on the loose and targeting a certain type, will look into other missing and murdered men that were suggested as possible BM victims, but ultimately turned out not to be connected.

Peel Const. Marie-Catherine Marsoter was diligently investigating the disappearance of resident Abdulbasir (Basir) Faizi when she twigged to the similarities with the Toronto case of missing Skandaraj (Skanda) Navaratnam.

But her calls to Toronto Police weren’t returned — despite three attempts.

“The failure of the Toronto Police to identify the potential connection between these cases — one handed to them on a platter — represents a failure of epic proportions,” Epstein wrote.

I think it is obvious that Toronto Police service let these victims down.
Thank you to Peel Const. Marie-Catherine Marsoter for trying to get them to investigate these killings seriously.

To understand McArthur, Lee said you have to go back to the beginning.

Born in 1951 and raised on a farm northeast of Toronto in a considerably less liberated era, Lee believes that McArthur’s battle with his homosexuality lasted a lifetime.

“He definitely doesn’t fit with what we think when we talk about serial killers,” Lee said, adding that the documentary goes deeper than the “superficial” serial killer-as-monster approach.

Like a lot of his ilk, McArthur probably suffered a traumatic event in his childhood. For him, Lee said it may have been internal torment connected to the church he belonged to.''
It might have been his devout, authoritarian father, his closeted homosexuality or a plethora of other hang-ups.

“In that time and era, the LGBT community was basically frowned upon and more so in that church,” Lee said.''

''He added: “I’m not sure that he had that affirmative experience … instead, McArthur’s life was crumbling. And he had those core beliefs from the church internalized.”

While Colby was not identified as one of the victims of the 67-year-old serial killer, officers reviewing the case did find a DNA match for a suspect in the National DNA Data Bank.

Investigators later discovered that the suspect had been staying with Colby around the time of his murder and “strongly resembled” the composite sketch that was previously released. The suspect, police say, also had a history of violence.

The suspect, who died in 2015, would have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Colby’s death.

''The Toronto Police Service has implemented one of the key recommendations from Judge Epstein’s Report by launching its Missing and Missed Implementation Team. Seven Community Representatives were selected from over 148 applicants bringing forward expertise, lived experiences and years of community advocacy. They are joined by four volunteers, all members of Judge Epstein's Community Advisory Group, who will continue to provide the same advice and support as they did for the initial Review.

Since Judge Epstein delivered her report in April 2021, the Service has created a dedicated team of 16 TPS members who work full time on the implementation of all 151 recommendations. To ensure TPS efforts honour the intent of the Judge’s review and reflect the best interests of the communities most impacted by the review, the Community Representatives will advise the Service throughout the process.
