External, public review of missing persons a must: Chief Saunders

“I recognize that an external review that reports publicly will offer the greatest measure of public confidence,” writes Toronto police chief Mark Saunders. “Inviting such scrutiny is something I welcome and am eager to support.”

i ve been wondering if BM was living financially as a landscaper he would of had to have ridiculous clientele. In order to pay renthttp://nexthome.yp.ca/apartments-for-rent/on/east-york/85-95-thorncliffe-park-drive/4-7921/plan/12836/
2 bedroom $1585
car insurance, food, gas and then vacations. Yet his clients are just a random home owner here and there. Could the evidence that metro police have from his computer be video's? If so, Could he be profiting off snuff video's?
A girl from my high school was murdered in a snuff video in new York state, years ago. So it really does happen.

Bruce McArthur spent years masterfully covering his tracks. Then he allegedly made a costly mistake

He and the alleged victims never spoke online using their real names, avoided speaking on cellphones — likely opting instead for pay phones — and purposely avoided meeting in areas monitored by surveillance cameras
The source suggested McArthur targeted men who kept a low-profile, sometimes allegedly going after those who did not keep fixed addresses or had not told their families they were gay.

But when he allegedly murdered Andrew Kinsman in 2017, the pattern changed.

“That was his downfall,” the source said.

Kinsman, 49, was well-known in Toronto’s Gay Village. He was an LGBTQ activist who volunteered for People with Aids Toronto and Toronto HIV/AIDS Network. He also worked as a bartender at the Black Eagle. His friends and family organized massive searches, with and without police, when he went missing.

Kinsman’s friends noticed his disappearance and reported it to police within 72 hours.
In many cases, police were only able to find photos “from the neck down” of some of the men he had contacted, leaving their identities a mystery.

I read he had lived at the Thorncliffe park apartment for 10 years, so rent would have been MUCH MUCH cheaper when he moved in, and legally they can only raise it a few percent a year. So I wouldn't assume his rent is anywhere near $1585.

EDIT: according to the wayback machine a 2 bedroom was renting for $1390 in 2008 which is way more than I expected! https://web.archive.org/web/2008020...Suites/2_Bedroom_Apartments_Toronto/index.htm

I lived in a similar 2 bedroom apartment right at Church and Wellesley in 2008 and my roommate and I paid $1400... so It's interesting he didn't choose to live in the village after the conditions barring him from the area expired.

My thought about his career was how little sense it makes for a 50 year old man who likely doesn't have retirement savings (bankruptcy) and so will be working past normal retirement age to choose a career that requires manual labor... it seems like a bad choice for an aging man with diabetes, who's obviously not super fit... obviously he had his other reasons for the career switch

Attorney general urged to launch public inquiry immediately into Bruce McArthur investigation

Elliott said that launching a public inquiry immediately will help police services learn how to stop serial killers sooner.

“While we now debate the timing of an inquiry into the most recent serial killer investigation, the next serial killer may already be at work. Perhaps even right here in Toronto,” he said.
“We need to learn the lessons from this unhappy investigation and we need to learn them without any further delay. Lives are at stake.”

Killings prompt review of Toronto police handling of missing persons cases
http://calgaryherald.com/pmn/news-p...ases/wcm/e6f6a6c5-8dec-4138-a117-e26e7db203e3
TORONTO — How Toronto police handled the cases of men missing from the city’s gay village will undergo some form of external review in light of six murder charges laid against an alleged serial killer, the police oversight board decided on Thursday.

In a motion to the board, Mayor John Tory said a series of “troubling questions” had arisen in light of the killings for which self-employed landscaper Bruce McArthur has been charged.

“The genesis of today’s motion goes back to series of tragic and horrific events that deeply affected all of us in Toronto,” Tory said. “It’s fair to say that the list of unanswered and very troubling questions that have caused a lot of anxiety in the community has grown longer.”

Tory said it was time to get answers to questions around missing-persons reports in an effort to maintain or renew confidence in policing in the city.

$1585 for 2 bedrooms seems to be a below average rental rate in TO.

That said, It has been reported that BM lived with a roommate; and later, also his son. If so, as many choose to do in Toronto, rent would have been more than affordable when intentionally splitting costs with 1 or 2 others. Vacation expenses also could have been shared or solely funded by his traveling companion(s).

To date, no reports have described BM as extravagant in his spending or lifestyle. In fact, by most accounts it has been reported that he drove an older vehicle; dressed casually; hung out at coffee shops with elderly friends; and ordered breakfast specials. All pictures of BM show him dressed mostly in jeans/shorts/t-shirts (both around the GTA and while on vacations). Only one picture showed him formally dressed in a tuxedo (possibly from a family wedding).

In regards to his business, it appears that he would have had zero overhead expenses while using the property on Mallory Crescent to store his equipment and work on the planters he made and sold. Based on this, most likely his primary operating expenses would have been buying gardening materials; and that could have only been an in/out expense, if sold quickly. Given his reported customer list in well-to-do neighborhoods, would assume he had healthy profit margins.

He could be collecting CPP. Landscaping can be a cash business (no taxes), so it can be very lucrative, but would essentially be seasonal. His rent would have been set 10 years ago, shared with a roommate, and his apartment isn't exactly in a great part of town. Also, I'm assuming his parents have passed, so there may have been some sort of inheritance that he's been living off.

National Post seems to be sensationalizing with their article's title and opening statement.

Bruce McArthur spent years masterfully covering his tracks, according to a police source with knowledge of the investigation, leaving no trail of his interaction with the men he’s accused of murdering before making a costly mistake.

He abstained from using his real name when meeting men online, leaving no conversation history with the alleged victims, avoided speaking on cellphones — potentially opting instead for pay phones — and purposely never met in areas monitored by surveillance cameras.

National Post's statements conflict with earlier reports and/or are very vague:

  • Leaving no trail of his interactions: It has been reported he had established relationships with 3 of the men; friends of 2 of the victims have stated knowing of these relationships; earlier reports stated that BM archived pictures as well as displayed photos of multiple other men; a contractor reported seeing several different men on the job sites. This sounds like a trail.

  • Abstained from using his real name online [on dating apps]: Would assume that it is standard practice for everyone when initially chatting online, but several reports have included interviews of men meeting up with him and knowing him by name. This does not seem like a mastermind of cover-up.

  • No conversation history with victims: What does this mean? Does it suggests BM did not ever text or just deleted texts with the individuals on his personal phone? Does it indicate that phone records show no history, or BM's cell phone at the time of his arrest, showed no saved texts? If so, that is not a covert operation, it is simply hitting the delete button.

  • Avoided speaking on cellphones: What does this mean? Preference for not talking on the phone, using a landline, or intentionally not creating a record of calls? Lots of people prefer to text, not talk.

  • Opting for payphones: Not tons of payphones left in TO. This is a world of caller-ID, would no one question a payphone number being used and not a cell phone? Individuals would then return calls to payphone? Seems far-fetched that he would prefer to have conversations in public, for all to hear.

  • Avoiding surveillance cameras: Would think a planned tryst of any sort for anyone and everyone (either BM's intent to murder or those wanting privacy) would choose to avoid cameras.

IMO, but none of what this article suggests, is painting a picture of BM "masterfully covering his tracks".

Records state his parents died decades ago, would assume any inheritance would have been exhausted prior to filing for bankruptcy.

So far cannot locate anything that indicates he was gay, assuming he met BM through the landscaping business.
His wife certainly seemed to be very happily married to him.
imo, speculation.

If he is the owner supervisor of his business and used to physical labor, he probably isn't doing all the hard labor part which is why he hired laborers and if you are in a profession like that where you have been doing it for years you are used to it, though yes it does wear down the body.

if you invest and inheritance it isn't necessarily exhausted, it could very will be a nest egg or the base of an investment with earnings.
