Was McArthur scheduled to be in court tomorrow? Did this just come up today? If so, maybe more charges?

No. April 11th has been scheduled since his last hearing. However, the update is about the photograph they released and the timing of the update after his court appearance hopefully means they figured it out and have laid/will lay an additional charge anyways :)

Toronto police are expected to hold a news conference Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. to provide an update on alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur.

Police are expected to provide updates on three aspects of the investigation into McArthur.

The news conference has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m., just hours after McArthur is scheduled to appear in a Toronto court by video.
It’s not clear what exactly investigators will be discussing during the update.
Anyone who retained McArthur to do landscaping work or who has information has been asked to contact the Toronto police team dedicated to the investigation at 416-808-2021 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.

So "police are expected to provide updates on three aspects of the investigation into McArthur". I can only hope that the identification of this man is part of these three updates.

Wonder what the other two issues are? I know they want people to come forward if they've ever hired BM or if they have any tidbit of information. Anything could be crucial at this point.

Last week Det. Idsinga did say that they were updating us on the unidentified man in the photo. I was hoping it was his identity that was found and the murder charge for him. But that is one of the three updates (or possibly non-updates). They are asking for the information like you said, so maybe why they are asking is the other part.

At a news conference on Wednesday, Det. Sgt. Hank Idsinga said they have now identified three more as belonging to Selim Esen, Dean Lisowick, and Abdulbasir Faizi.

Idsinga said the remains of alleged victim Majeed Kayhan have not been identified.

Idsinga said police are currently re-examining 15 cold cases dating back as far as 1975 in their investigation. He also said police plan to investigate 75 properties linked to McArthur starting next month.
The Crown has scheduled a judicial pre-trial for Thursday, but McArthur is not required to attend. His next court appearance is by video on April 25.

More to come

An enhanced photo of a man investigators want to identify. The man may be from outside the country

“To date, over 500 tips have come in from various sources,” Idsinga said. “From these tips, over 70 potential identities of the unknown male in the photograph have been received. The majority of these potential identities have been eliminated, but we continue to work on 22 of them. Although we are cautiously optimistic about linking one of the remaining 22 to the unknown male in the photograph, I would encourage anyone with any further information or insight, whatsoever, to please pass that information on to us.”

With alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur now accused of killing seven men, Toronto police say there's still a possibility of more victims as they prepare to search 75 properties and look into cold cases going back 40 years.

"We really don't know how deep this is going to go. We just don't know yet," said lead investigator Det-Sgt. Hank Idsinga on Wednesday.
Idinsga said Wednesday that thanks to tips from the public, police now have a list of 75 properties they want to search, adding they are "targeting early May to commence these searches."
Police are also still reviewing cold case files dating back to the 1970s involving gay men who were slain in Toronto's downtown core after leaving bars popular in the LGBTQ community. Most of the men were stabbed to death and found naked in their beds.

McArthur would have been in his twenties at the time.

Idsinga told reporters Wednesday the police are looking into 15 cases from between 1975 and 1997.

just to clarify for me and maybe others;
Bruce McArthur charged with 1st degree for the following victims;

Selim Esen - remains recovered from planters
Andrew Kinsman - remains recovered from planters
Majeed Kayhan -
Soroush Mahmudi - remains recovered from planters
Dean Lisowick - remains recovered from planters
Skandaraj Navaratnam - remains recovered from planters
Abdulbasir Faizi - remains recovered from planters

we know that LE has recovered at least 7 remains (partial or full we don't know) and 6 of the 7 are identified.
So we don't know for certain that the Unidentified deceased man in the pic is the 7th remains, or if its Majeed Kayhan or someone else completely.

To identify the deceased man in photo will be difficult if the remains are not him because there is nothing to dna/fingerprint/dental test to. If the 7th set of remains is identified to be Majeed, then LE will be trying to identify a victim from just a pic, no science...unless more remains are uncovered as the ground thaws...

I feel for some reason that LE may want to widen their search and not just focus on males.

Totally agree with this ever since seeing a composite sketch of the perp in a violent sex assault on a woman in Hamilton...

.A couple of other cases (murders) of females have come to mind too, did not want to mention those, but now - glad you said it! for example(Tice/Gilmour)
Fwiw, imo, just speculation.

I just heard on CP24 that Faizi's remains were "found on Moore Ave not far from Mallory crescent." So, not in a planter? Did I get this right?

EDIT: never mind. Faizi was found in a planter. CP24 must have meant his car was found near the Mallory address in 2010.
