Identified! Canada- Calgary, 'Baby Eve', found in dumpster Christmas Eve, Dec'17- *Mother, Nina Albright guilty*

"A newborn's body has been found in a northwest Calgary parking lot, and police are asking for the public's help in finding the baby's mother as they're concerned she could be in medical distress.

Police were called to a parking lot behind the Bownesian Grocer at Bowness Road and 79th Street N.W. at approximately 11:30 p.m. MT Sunday."

I wonder if this is a teen who couldn't cope. If so, I do think that medical attention is more important than prosecution.

"An autopsy, conducted on Tuesday, showed that the baby girl was alive at some point and may have been alive when she was left at the scene.

"Investigators believe the baby was born 24 hours prior to it being left at the scene," said Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta with the CPS Homicide Unit. "She was left between 3:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on the 24th."

The girl had a light complexion and dark hair and there were no signs of trauma on her body, Schiavetta said."

The baby's mother would be in more than medical distress, she would also be a psychological and emotional wreck. All the hormones her body would be producing would put her on a hormonal roller coaster, she is a mother without a baby. Her home situation is obviously not a supportive one. The poor woman, she needs support and medical attention not prosecution.

From reading the articles, it sounds like that is what police want to do - to provide medical and psychological support. They have reason to believe that she needs help, and just want help to find her and provide assistance. She will not be incarcerated for what happened - that's an opinion based on other women who have been similarly distressed.

I humbly disagree with others in this thread. Yes, she may need medical attention. But she also must face the consequences of killing a child (unless she is being held captive by someone or something like that.)

I couldn't agree more. If she willingly left the baby to die, she deserves prison, period. We've followed cases where criminal charges were successful.

Absolutely, no one is above the law nor should they be.

She left her alive baby and now her innocent baby is dead. She could have left it on a doorstep of a church so that it had a chance to survive and thrive with a loving family. This baby deserved life as much as anyone else does.

I dont know how it is in Canada but here she would be held accountable, rightly so, imo.

She will be charged, that is true. However, the consequences for women who kill their children (matricide) in Canada leans towards mental health rather than criminal intent.

Wow...that's not much justice for the innocent children who lose their lives. How sad.

Andrea Yates was clearly psychologically disturbed when she murdered her children, yet she was treated like a serial killer. In Canada, matricide is still recognized as completely abnormal and going against nature.

This is one of three similar situations that come to mind. She committed suicide after a short stay in a psychiatric institution.

Woman who drowned two young sons in Alberta found dead in Australia

"McConnell was given a six-year prison sentence after her sons Connor, two, and 10-month-old Jayden were drowned in a bathtub in 2010 in the family home in Millet, south of Edmonton.

She served 15 months in a psychiatric hospital after taking into account time served before her trial and was deported to Australia shortly after she was released April 4."

whoa, lots of assumptions made here and folks are ready to imprison or do worse to the mother... So little has been reported and there are so many other possibilities for why this baby ended up where and how she did.

Current news is that evidence at the scene suggests that the mother may be in "mental or physical distress".

I hope she didn't leave a note expecting that someone would find the baby alive. What a tragic situation if she thought she could leave a baby outside on one of the coldest days of the year, and that it would be found before the baby died.

Based on pleas from police, we know that they are very concerned for the mother's wellbeing. 'Holier than thou' and 'lock her up' positions are not coming from police, or from the public. I think everyone is worried about the mother at this point, and hoping that she is quickly identified so she can receive the help she needs.

Found in a dumpster actually moves me closer to criminal prosecution, as that is distinctly different than leaving a baby in a parking lot.

"Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta, however, said an autopsy did not pinpoint a cause of death. It's unknown if the baby was alive at the time she was abandoned between 3 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 24.

He described the baby as having a light complexion and dark hair.

"We are very concerned about the mother's physical and mental state as well," he said during a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Evidence at the scene, located in northwest Calgary, indicates the mother is in need of medical help.
...

Earlier, police said the baby was found by a security guard, abandoned in a dumpster."

Candlelight vigil held in Calgary parking lot where newborn's body found
January 4, 2018

Snipped...
...Bramston is advocating for Calgary to open an angel cradle program in Calgary.

The program, which is available at two Edmonton hospitals, allows babies to be left anonymously in a bassinet behind a door. The space has literature that outlines available supports.

Once the door is shut, an alarm goes off, alerting hospital staff that a baby is there.

'It still bothers me': Man who found abandoned baby in Bowness disturbed by the memory

Snow had been falling throughout the evening when Charlie took his dog for a walk along his usual route in Bowness on Christmas Eve.

He passed the familiar shuttered businesses near Bowness Road and 79th Street N.W. and stopped at the edge of a parking lot to search through a bank of garbage and recycling bins, looking for stray bottles.
But inside one of the bins, Charlie saw something that froze him in his tracks.

Postmedia has agreed not to reveal Charlie’s full name, and some details of what he discovered inside the bin have been withheld at the request of homicide detectives.
