They're actually not. They dyed their hair blonde (presumably for the playoffs), to show unity. It's kind of like when NHLers used to grow a beard for playoffs, but now so many of them have beards anyway.

:tyou: Hockey fan here. My beloved late (Canadian) Dad played hockey, coached and refereed. Both my brothers played youth hockey, with one brother continuing on to high school, adult league, and later coaching. If I had been a boy, Dad would have had me playing hockey, too

DH and I had new passport photos taken yesterday (for renewal). I wore a Red Wings shirt

Eaton talks about the boys who play on the Broncos: Some grew up in Humboldt, others arrive from various Saskatchewan towns and cities, and from other provinces.

“They become our Humboldt Broncos,” Eaton said. “They become our boys. Some of them have girlfriends here. They live with billet families, and there are younger kids in those families. They become part of families; they become part of the school family; they become part of the community family. And sometimes, they even get married — I have a daughter who’s married to a Humboldt Bronco. It happens.”

“We’ll get through this collaboratively,” he said. “We’ll get through this collectively. We’ll get through this one prayer at a time, one person at a time, one hug at a time, one cry at a time. We’ll get through this together.”

Teens, seniors, people with Broncos jackets sat around tables or wandered the room. Everybody had their phones out, seeking updates, because while the rumour mill had a lot of people dead, names trickled out slowly.

Sometimes, a phone would convey news too horrible to comprehend, and somebody at a table would break into sobs, shoulders shaking, people moving in to provide comfort.

My deepest condolences to all affected. Terrible tragedy. Our Son played Travel for 7 years and the Hockey Community is a very tight one. Deeply saddened to hear this :rose: :canada:

I was a hockey mom for many years. I miss it. Helped my son so much stay on the right track. Soon as we moved he didn’t want to join and literally his life turned to crap.
Those boys create such a tight bond.
I feel beyond anything I can express in words on how this must be impacting everyone. Such sweet looking boys. So full of life and hope.
I do pray those that are in hospital make it and are able to live successful lives on behalf of their fallen teammates and coaches. Xo

Canada police: 14 dead after hockey bus crash

Nipawin, Saskatchewan – Canadian police said early Saturday 14 people were killed and 14 people were injured after a truck collided with a bus carrying a junior hockey team to a playoff game in Western Canada.

Police say there were 28 people, including the driver, on board the bus of the Humboldt Broncos team when the crash occurred around 5 p.m. Friday on Highway 35 in Saskatchewan.

“We can now confirm fourteen people have died as a result of this collision,” The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a release early Saturday.

“The other fourteen people were sent to hospitals with a variety of injuries; three of these people have injuries that are critical in nature.”...

It has been awful seeing photos of the guys who have died. Life can be so unfair. I can't imagine what the families are going through. I hope the injured recover and have access to counselling.

I hope so too. What I've learned from living in Canada and being in the hockey world is the community is tight-knit and supportive, even amongst the most bitter of rivals. Everyone is feeling this today.

ETA: Damn, that was sad. I felt so sorry for the President of the Broncos having to answer some of those questions....trying to talk about support for everyone else, but I can't imagine what he is going through, to have no doubt lost so many friends.
