(all times local):

The driver of a truck that struck a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos youth hockey team was uninjured in the crash that killed 14 people and injured 15 others.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner Curtis Zablocki said he was initially detained but has since been released. He says the driver has been provided with mental health and wellness assistance.

A radio announcer who gave play-by-plays for Humboldt Broncos hockey team games is among the 14 people killed in a bus crash in northern Saskatchewan. Tyler Bieber worked for the Humboldt station CHBO.

The deaths of the team's head coach, Darcy Haugan, and captain, Logan Schatz, have also been confirmed by relatives.

The ripple network of this tragic event is hard to fathom, it's bigger than all of us put together.

Thinking of one & all, and each & every one of theirs.

Telling myself the blessing is they are both tight knit groups of supportive communities...hockey families, truck & bus drivers.

Many people have each in their family.

:crying:

This is such a huge tragedy. My heart is broken for all of the young men who lost their lives way too young and their coach, and for all of the families who must be in unbelievable shock and grief. They have not only lost their own beloved sons, but I am sure they have lost best friends of their sons as well.:( I pray for those who are hospitalized and hope all will make a full recovery.

Has it been stated if the driver of the bus was killed? It seems like the semi-truck driver was so emotionally distraught over the accident he needed mental health attention for it. If he did not cause this accident he will forever be changed, and if he did his guilt will be ten fold.

It will be interesting to learn what actually happen to cause such a devastating accident. Did this happen on an wide open interstate or was it in a city where there are stop signs or traffic lights? Sorry for the questions but I haven't been able to keep up with all the breaking news.

My heart and prayers are with all of our Canadian friends/neighbors. Your great loss is felt all over the world as millions mourn the great loss you have sustained. God bless you all.

IMO

Oh my what carnage. It takes a lot of force (speed) to overturn a semi (if fully loaded it probably weighed around 80,000 pounds) and it looks like the entire frame of the semi is on the ground with the box trailer/container separating from the frame, and turned over.

Looking at these horrific photos of the accident it is shocking that anyone survived.

Spellbound did this happen on a sharp curve or is this where they ended up?

It makes me cry just seeing how horrific this accident truly was. :(

An online fundraising campaign for the affected players and their families, with an initial target of $10,000, was set up late on Friday by the mother of a former Broncos teammate. By lunchtime on Saturday it had raised more than $1 million.

OBE
, the bus driver is among the dead.

29 people were on the bus, including the driver, and 14 were killed. Fifteen were taken to hospital with a range of injuries, including three in critical condition.

I don’t know, OBE. I’m not familiar with the area and haven’t seen good pictures to tell what the road was like there. I’m looking for anything that might give a better detail. Will post if I find anything

Wow on the Gofund me. Over a million now. Proud of us Canadians and of course those nations that are offering support.
Makes me proud in such a horrific situation to be Canadian.
I know it’s just money. None of the victims and families even care. But it will be needed. :(

This is from last night:
Highway south of Nipawin closed to traffic following serious collision
Emergency services from Nipawin are currently at the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision at what is locally called the Armley Corner, the junction of Highways 35 and Highway 335, about 30 kilometres north of Tisdale.

Map:

Streetview gives a good idea of how flat and wide open the area is. Roads are all straight, no sharp curves or blind turns.

Just a guess but appears anyone on the front half of that bus would not have survived

OBE, I can’t get a better detailed map, but it looks fairly smooth traveling from this google map. From details we have heard, they were just about in the middle of this map, east of Gronlid, between Nipawin (to the north) and Tisdale (to the south), on Highway 355

THIS IS THE MAP GIVEN FOR THE ACTUAL ACCIDENT SITE:, occurred just north of Tinsdale:

Thank you for your replies.

No matter what type of road it happened on it is such a heartbreaking tragedy for so many.

Do you know how long accident investigations usually take in Canada? I am sure the transportation experts and police will do a reconstruction to figure out what happened.

Thanks again, Spellbound.

The description I read was the truck t-boned the bus - I think you're right and the truck hit the bus nearer to the front. So maybe the driver ran the stop sign or was unable to stop in time?

Thank you, blue. So this happened at a junction or crossroad?

I would call it an intersection but only one crossroad had a stop sign, the other would have had right-of-way.
