''VANCOUVER — Mark Edward Grant, who was acquitted of the 1984 murder of 13-year-old Winnipeg schoolgirl Candace Derksen, made a brief video appearance in a Vancouver courtroom today on charges of unlawful confinement, sexual assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.''

''Wilma Dirksen, Candace's mother, said the family has "carried on" in the years since Candace's murder, but after news of Grant's arrest in Vancouver, she wonders what may come to light in the new case against the man accused and later acquitted of her daughter's murder.''

I live in the neighbourhood now where this happened years ago, so this is an interesting development for sure. Looking back to the Candace case, one of the first things that should have been done when she disappeared is look in all sheds, garages and cabins in the area. I know someone who has worked in the prison system here, and he's said many of the incarcerated guys never even had a vehicle, so there was no way to move a body unless they had an accomplice.
