I know people who are jumping the queue to get the vaccine by declaring that they are care givers - truth is that have a parent in a care facility whom they visit when possible.

Queue jumpers suck!

“TORONTO -- Canada's seven-day average has reached its highest point of the pandemic, marking a grim milestone amid the country’s third wave.

As of Wednesday, the rolling seven-day average number of new infections in Canada was 8,444.7 cases, setting a new record, according to data tracked by CTVNews.ca.“

Canada just had its worst week ever for new COVID-19 cases

Canada's vaccine hoarding will prolong the pandemic globally, experts say

Not sure of you saw, Tad, but in the States recently two ladies actually tried to dress up as senior citizens to jump the line...they got busted.

I say cut them some slack. I would probably do it too.

My Mom was ill at home for months before dying and three of us kids were her main caregivers, with visits here and there from a nurse and a PSW. I would classify that as caregiver as would I classify those who visit long-term care patients. They do a lot of the work that the employees normally would. I know some people probably don't even visit their loved one and cheat the system but I don't see any easy way to identify them.

“A year into the pandemic, staff at Humber River say they now have more experience treating the disease, but the relentless pace, personnel shortages and much younger patients are weighing heavily on them.

"The patients that are coming in sick with COVID are definitely more acute," says Raman Rai, who manages the ICU. "They're sicker and they're younger, which is hard for the team to see that."“

B.C. could hit 3,000 new COVID-19 cases a day if contact trends don’t go down: health officials

“Variants now make up an estimated 65 per cent of all new COVID cases in the province. This is a massive surge from just nine weeks ago when variants first took hold in the province.

The P.1 variant, first detected in Brazil, now makes up 49 per cent of the province’s variant cases. The B.1.1.7 variant, originally detected in the U.K., makes up 50 per cent of the variant cases.

The B.1.1.7 variant continues to be dominant in Fraser Health, making up nearly 75 per cent of all the variant cases in the province. The P.1 variant dominates spread in Vancouver Coastal Health, making up about 70 per cent of variant cases that health region.“

[...]

“The independent modelling found the growth of variants of concern (B.1.1.7 and P.1) have driven recent rise in cases and transmission must be reduced by at least 40% to control case growth.”

These people are like me - we have to wait until May because we don't qualify for the age categories and we have no diagnosed health conditions. They're using the fact that they have a family member in a care facility and pretending that they are caregivers. If I know people who are cheating the system, I'm guessing there are a lot of people doing the same thing.

These are not people who work in a care home, and they are often locked out because of lockdown.

Interesting article about predicting covid numbers based on waste water samples.

"A project that monitors Calgary sewage for the presence of the virus responsible for COVID-19 is showing a significant spike since mid-March.
...

“Tracing things over time — using this algorithm — our ability to predict things over a 95 per cent confidence interval is very strong, six days later.”

He said since March, some areas of the city have shown more increase than others, but all locations are finding more of the virus than in February."

Ontario to introduce new restrictions on inter-provincial travel, lower capacity limits at essential businesses
''As of Monday checkpoints will be set up at Ontario’s provincial borders with Quebec and Manitoba and visitors will be prohibited from entering the province except for essential purposes, such as work, medical care or the transportation of goods.

The Ford government is also shutting down non-essential construction work sites and ordering the immediate closure of all recreational amenities, including playgrounds, golf courses, tennis courts, basketball courts and soccer and baseball fields.

Meanwhile, the stay-at-home order will be extended for another two weeks and will now remain in effect until at least May 20.

Here is a full list of all the new restrictions:

- Outdoor gatherings will be strictly limited to members of your household only

- Capacity in big box stores will be reduced to 25 per cent

- Capacity at religious services, weddings and funerals limited to 10 people indoors

- Non-essential construction projects will be prohibited''

Ontario gives police authority to stop people, vehicles, ask purpose of travel
"The Ontario government is giving police temporary powers to enforce its stay-at-home order and allowing them to stop individuals and vehicles and ask their reasons for leaving their homes.''

"We have made the deliberate decision to temporarily enhance police officers' authority for the duration of the stay-at-home order. Moving forward, police will have the authority to require any individual who is not in a place of residence to first provide the purpose for not being at home and provide their home address," Jones said.

"Police will also have the authority to stop a vehicle to inquire about an individual's reason for leaving their residence."

''It will come into effect as of Saturday, Apr. 17.''
