That's nuts! What age group?

I ask because I've read studies about the effects of marijuana on people and it usually turns out that the study group is seniors, quite often in care homes. Sometimes pot is used to manage patient outbursts, or assist Alzheimer patients with reduced aggression and increased docility.

When my mom was dying, the home care nurse recommended a fentanyl patch to settle her mind. Her family doctor was horrified, pointing out that she never smoked or used alcohol throughout her life and now the home care nurses want to give her a fentanyl patch to dope her up in her final days of life? He thought it would be distressing to blow her mind at the end of her life.

"Members talk about exploring substances such as DMT, psilocybin, LSD and MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy or molly.

“They come from all ages and backgrounds, people you wouldn’t expect, like one woman … she’s 75 years old."
...

Some studies show psychedelics are overall considered physiologically safe and do not lead to dependence or addiction.

But Facchini says people need to be careful when consuming the powerful substances, which can alter perception, mood and cognitive processes and may not necessarily target mental health issues.

“They could have a variation in how strong the trip is, just like how people with mental health issues are varied. PTSD is different, depression, and so on. So even people that suffer from PTSD are not necessarily affected the same way.”

here we go kids:

Williams said data from South Africa shows the variant has a higher viral load, meaning it may be more infectious.

A small number of cases have already been confirmed in other Canadian provinces, including Alberta and British Columbia.

I can't imagine doing that to my Mom, who died at 87 and like yours, never smoked or drank or even took many prescription drugs in her life.

I've been wearing two surgical masks for a while now. There were recent articles about double masking, with experts stating that wearing one mask correctly is more important than double masking. My opinion is that wearing two masks correctly is better than wearing one mask correctly.

Cold dry weather is an ideal condition for the virus. On a crowded street or skating rink, outdoor masks are probably a good idea. If there's no one around, masks probably aren't necessary - although they do help to keep warm.

Canada signs deal with Novavax to make its COVID-19 vaccine at new Montreal facility
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to announce today a deal with Novavax to produce doses of its new COVID-19 vaccine at a new National Research Council biomanufacturing facility in Montreal.

---
But Novavax’s vaccine is likely at least two months away from being approved in Canada, while the NRC facility is still under construction and designed to produce only about two million doses a month.

Canada has a deal to buy 52 million doses from Novavax after it is approved by Health Canada.

Canada’s inability to produce any COVID-19 vaccines at home has left the country at the mercy of foreign governments, who could at any time slam the doors shut to vaccine exports until their own people are vaccinated.

Another case of blatant disregard for others when infected.

"The child of a person who travelled outside of Alberta attended school in Calgary while infectious with a coronavirus variant, the province's chief medical officer of health says.

Hinshaw did not say where the child's parent had travelled or which variant was involved.

There are currently 51 cases of the coronavirus variants first identified in the U.K. and in South Africa in Alberta. Of those, six cases in three households have no clear link to travel.

Scientists have said the new strains could be as much as 50 per cent more transmissible than the primary strain that has been circulating in Alberta up to this point. England and Ireland have seen the B117 variant spread rapidly throughout their populations."

Canada should take lessons from Australia. Granted, the ideal situation during pandemic is to live on an Island, but Canada can do better.

"In Perth, a city of almost two million people, and surrounding regions nobody is allowed to leave their home or neighbourhood except for essential reasons. Everyone must wear a mask. Schools are closed. One hour of exercise is allowed within a five kilometre radius of your home.

The penalties for breaching quarantine rules range from hundreds of dollars to a maximum of $50,000 or 12 months in jail.

The catalyst for the lockdown? A single case of COVID-19."
