If I was a teacher at that school, and they screwed closed the Windows during an airborne pandemic, I would quit and I would sue. I'm not find of attorneys or courtrooms, but we're talking potential life and death here. Moo

Seems to me that'd be entirely illegal per the fire code/city by-laws?
Windows nailed shut in a classroom full of kids?
There's no way that can even be legal.

I don't know. I taught high school for 5 years and none of the windows in the 100 year old building opened. It would be a real luxury if they did open, but they don't. Same with the university. None of the windows in the very old buildings opened. With cold Winter temperatures and limited budgets, it doesn't seem reasonable to have the windows open. It's better to manage people with symptoms than to open windows - in my opinion.

It's not a fire code violation to teach in classrooms where the windows do not open. In an emergency, windows can be broken.

The real situation seems to be that teachers enjoyed the luxury of windows that opened, carelessly kept the windows open during freezing temperatures - claiming covid as justification - and are upset that they lost the privilege because of soaring heating costs.

Ontario reports 1,087 new COVID-19 cases; active caseload lowest since early Nov. 2020

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toro...ly-all-625-public-health-nurse-jobs-1.5919562

Ontario has filled nearly all 625 public heath nursing positions in schools, but is that enough?

U.S. vaccine rollout vastly outpacing Canada's: what can we learn from American push?

"Canada has not yet reached the pharmacy stage of its vaccine rollout, but ... We have the exact same plan, we just need the critical mass of vaccines." said Bogoch ... when we get that, you're gonna see from coast to coast vaccines offered at many different settings."

"and she expects Plan B lists to be compiled of individuals who can quickly fill in when no-shows arise.

Those lists have to be made fairly though, she cautions" - KG

Security guard accused of extorting and sexually assaulting woman during quarantine compliance check
''A security guard has been accused of attempting to extort and then sexually assaulting a woman at a residence in Oakville during a COVID-19 travel quarantine compliance check.

Halton police say that the suspect is employed by one of four private security companies that were hired by the Public Health Agency of Canada to conduct compliance checks under the Quarantine Act.

They allege that the suspect visited the victim’s home on Feb. 18 to conduct a compliance check, at which point he told her that she was in violation of the Quarantine Act and demanded that she pay a fine in cash.

Police say that when the victim refused to pay the fine, the suspect sexually assaulted her''

I can't help thinking there is more to this story.

^ Official warns of ‘minefield’ ahead as new modelling suggests variants will soon make up 40 per cent of all COVID cases

"Variants of concern will likely make up 40 per cent of all new COVID-19 infections in Ontario by the second week of March and future case growth will largely depend on how well we can control their spread, new modeling suggests."

...

"There have only been 462 fully confirmed cases of COVID-19 variants in Ontario so far, though more than a thousand samples have screened positive for variants of concerns and officials said Monday that 14.3 per cent of all positives detected in Ontario last week appeared to be mutations.

The modeling points out that weekly growth in new variant cases in Ontario has been roughly on par with that of other countries, including the United Kingdom, where the B.1.1.7 mutation drove an exponential increase in cases."

The latest vaccine to be approved, AstraZeneca, is estimated to be 62% efficient with the original variant after two shots. I'm wondering why this is approved when other vaccines have been said to be 90% efficient. It's not surprising that some people are refusing the vaccine.

"Health Canada has approved use of the COVID-19 vaccine from AstraZeneca, clearing the way for millions of more inoculations in Canada.

Canada's regulatory experts had been assessing the submission from AstraZeneca and Oxford University for safety and efficacy since October, and announced their approval Friday morning.

"AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine is indicated for active immunization of individuals 18 years of age and older for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019," reads their website.

"The efficacy of the vaccine was estimated to be 62.1 per cent. Overall, there are no important safety concerns and the vaccine was well tolerated by participants."

Canada has secured access to 20 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Some jurisdictions, notably France, have restricted the vaccine to people under the age of 65 despite the World Health Organization's insistence that the product is safe and effective for all age groups. Health Canada said it has no immediate safety concerns for those 65 and older."

French government opens door to AstraZeneca vaccine for the elderly

"PARIS — Alain Fischer, the head of France’s vaccine strategy orientation council, said on Thursday that recent findings suggest the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine "is efficient in people aged over 65," and said the country's health authority would look again into its recommendations for the jab.

“If these results are confirmed, it is excellent news because it could suggest the vaccine could be proposed and recommended for people aged between 65 and 74,” he added.

Countries throughout the EU had initially restricted the vaccine to younger age groups due to concerns over a scarcity of data validating its efficacy in older cohorts. France has so far recommended the use of AstraZeneca’s vaccine for those aged younger than 65."

Ontario reports 1,200+ new COVID-19 cases; no new long-term care deaths for first time in 4 months

"All of the deaths reported on Friday occurred outside of the long-term care system, the first time that has happened in since Oct. 26. All long-term care residents in the province have received at least one dose of an approved coronavirus vaccine."

Today’s coronavirus news: Ontario reporting 1,258 more cases, 28 deaths; York Region to start vaccinating residents over 80; Toronto still deciding on COVID-19 restrictions
