The AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine was recently approved for use in Canada following clinical trials in the United Kingdom and Brazil that showed a 62.1 per cent efficacy in reducing symptomatic cases of COVID-19 cases among those given the vaccine. Experts have said any vaccine with an efficacy rate of over 50 per cent could help stop outbreaks.

"Dr. Constance Nasello says that although pregnant women were excluded from initial trials of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, there is increasing evidence that the vaccines are safe for them.
Ontario health authorities listed pregnancy as a factor putting someone at risk for hospitalization or death from COVID-19 as they released details of the province's vaccination plan Friday.
That means pregnant women would be eligible for a vaccine during the second phase of the vaccine rollout."

"A new outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Cottonwoods Care Centre in B.C.'s Interior Health region where staff and residents had already received vaccines, the provincial health officer announced Monday.

In a live news conference, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said being vaccinated doesn't mean transmission will be stopped and that precautions must remain in place for seniors and care homes.

"You can have transmission even when people are fully vaccinated," she said. "The illness seems to be milder and doesn't transmit as much [and we] won't see rapid explosive outbreaks."​
