Proof that vaccine merely reduces transmission and symptoms, but still real data regarding long term side effects of covid with reduced symptoms.

"A new outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Cottonwoods Care Centre in B.C.'s Interior Health region where staff and residents had already received vaccines, the provincial health officer announced Monday.

In a live news conference, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said being vaccinated doesn't mean transmission will be stopped and that precautions must remain in place for seniors and care homes.

"You can have transmission even when people are fully vaccinated," she said. "The illness seems to be milder and doesn't transmit as much [and we] won't see rapid explosive outbreaks."

Very disappointing to hear. However, the article implies that some of those at the Centre only had one dose of what is likely to be the Pfizer vaccine, which is most effective 2 weeks after receiving the 2nd dose. Also, in elderly populations, vaccines don’t always work as well due to declining immunity. That is why there are double dose senior influenza vaccines. All of us will have to watch and wait to see how effective the vaccines really are.

It's disappointing to see that the vaccine doesn't have a bigger impact on the problem.

Continue to be cautious regarding the virus!

"B117 variant is between 30 and 100% more deadly than previous dominant variants, researchers say.
...

It has 23 mutations in its genetic code — a relatively high number — and some of them have made it spread far more easily. Scientists say it is about 40 per cent to 70 per cent more transmissible than previous dominant variants that were circulating."

Denmark, Norway, Italy temporarily suspend use of AstraZeneca vaccine
Health authorities in Denmark and Norway said on Thursday they had temporarily suspended the use of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine shots after reports of the formation of blood clots in some who have been vaccinated.

The move comes after Austria stopped using a batch of AstraZeneca shots while investigating a death from coagulation disorders and an illness from a pulmonary embolism.
...
“The problem with spontaneous reports of suspected adverse reactions to a vaccine are the enormous difficulty of distinguishing a causal effect from a coincidence,” he said, adding that the COVID-19 disease was very strongly associated with blood clotting.
...
The European Union’s drug regulator, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), said on Wednesday there was no evidence so far linking AstraZeneca to the two cases in Austria.
...
The batch of 1 million doses went to 17 EU countries.

Swedish authorities said they did not find sufficient evidence to stop vaccination with AstraZeneca’s vaccine. Sweden has found two cases of “thromboembolic events” in connection with AstraZeneca’s vaccine and about ten for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Yes, it is concerning?

I'm a bit concerned by this. I guess it was just one bad batch in Europe but still ...

Canadian health authorities say they will move forward with administering the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine despite at least nine European countries stopping its use.

Canadian health officials say AstraZeneca vaccine safe after countries suspend use

So what's the strategy?
Try for Pfizer?

Canada expecting 1M Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses a week until early May

"“That’s a million doses of Pfizer alone every seven days,” Trudeau said at a press conference.
“That’s going to make a big difference.”" ...

"Canada’s vaccine rollout has been criticized as slow compared to countries like the U.S. and the U.K., in part due to early shipment delays, sluggish regulatory approvals and dosing changes."
