Ontario making progress against COVID-19 but is "not out of the woods" according the chief medical officer - Bradford News

"In the meantime, Ontario is "still moving forward with the stay-at-home order" which he said will continue until June 2. He said it is still important for people to obey that order.

"That means especially for this coming weekend, the long weekend," said Williams.

He urged Ontario residents to get out with family members and enjoy the outdoors and enjoy the warm weather without breaking the restriction rules or going without pandemic precautions. He said the worst thing would be creating a new surge of COVID cases that would drive the numbers back up again.

He said the main focus in Ontario right now is not for the long weekend but how the summer will shape up for Ontario residents.

"Enjoy it while you can but enjoy it with care and caution," said Williams."

The 'Enjoy it while you can', sounds a little ominous to me. I guess there has always got to be a scary spin? o_O

I think they're just referring to the next 'surge'/lockdown that will follow a long weekend or summer period.

We all know that most people won't stick to their own households for the long weekend/summer period.

Back under lockdown long before Labour Day IMO.

But if the vaccinations actually work as we're being told, there should be no more outbreaks to overwhelm our hospitals, so no more need for lockdowns.

That would certainly be the expectation

Just over 2% of us have had both vaccinations in Canada, a long way from full vaccination status.

These vaccines are not like smallpox, diphtheria etc. We can still transmit and catch COVID even after full vaccination.

Add to that, the variants ie India version, is 50% more transmissible/potent and perhaps won't be covered by our current vaccines (they just do not know yet).

There were 45 cases of the India variant in Ontario a few days back.
Lets see how we fare over the next couple of weeks.

We need a lot more people to get vaccinated as well.

Most Canadians have had one half of the vaccination. Vaccinated people can be carriers of the virus, and can become ill.

When the vaccinations actually work, which might occur in the Fall, there will be a reduction of transmission, and reduction in rate of severe symptoms and mortality. We're not there yet, although many people with one shot act as though they are no longer at risk personally or to others.

Until new variants are stopped, which in my opinion requires global vaccinations, I think that lockdowns can happen.

Canada should donate AstraZeneca vaccines, or we'll 'have blood on our hands:' doctor

https://www.cbc.ca/radio/thecurrent...889FaJ0RFvRYDBwQn_Hd3ykiyH2gZNOriIu2dcbRHO86g

It's a bit like the USA manufacturing the vaccine but not approving it for USA populations. Is it ethical to send a vaccine to countries in need when it is known that the vaccine can have deadly or devastating consequences?

To avoid lawsuits regarding the AstraZeneca vaccine, does Canada need to fully disclose not only the reasons that the vaccine is discontinued in Canada, but also accurate current statistics regarding incidence of clotting?

I think its alright to pass them to another country provided that country uses 'informed consent' before sticking the vaccine into the arms of their people.

Does that 'ethical dilemma' have anything to do with Canada??

I read somewhere that when signing the consent for vaccines we had all given up our rights to sue the manufacturer/country/whomever as this is the largest drug trial in human history.

The vaccinations in use in the US have only been granted Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA. (mRNA)

It means that the benefits are believed to outweigh the risks and needs 2 months of data.

Pfizer has applied, in May, for full approval (needing 6 months of data) but it has yet to be granted.

We were told that AstraZeneca blood clots are very rare, 1/100,000. Then we were told they occur 1/60,000. Then we were told blood clots might be far more common, given that early testing was primarily with seniors - a group where blood clots were dismissed as common and not necessarily vaccine related. Today, the risk factor is unknown.

Before donating the supply to a country desperate for vaccines, I think Canada should be overly transparent regarding uncertainty surrounding blood clot risk associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Otto,

In all drug trials there are unknown risks and not enough information.

And believe me, this a huge drug trial for all of the vaccines.

Yes, the powers that be need to 'information share' if they pass the AZ vaccines off to another country.

But Canada should not/must not be held responsible for any problems, IMO, as we did not produce it and cannot make guarantees about someones elses' product.

Just read in The Star that AZ vaccines are going to be used as second shots before they expire at the end of May.

Sad news from Manitoba.

A person, over 65 yrs of age and fully vaccinated has died of COVID.

Eight persons who were partially vaccinated have also died from COVID.

'They' are warning people to remain vigilant after the first shot.

Wonder how many others in Canada have died after full vaccination/partial vaccination??
