Toronto Sun: 'I've never felt so ashamed to be Canadian' -- returning traveler to Pearson hellscape.
'I've never felt so ashamed to be Canadian' -- returning traveler | Toronto Sun

I'm curious about travellers at a Toronto airport who don't speak English and don't have money. The article implies these are people who are new to Canada, arriving without money or language skills. I'm surprised about this during pandemic. Did the borders open up to newcomers?

"“Like almost every other traveller I encountered at Pearson, she spoke little English. She was told to wait. She begged other travellers to call her son for her, as he was picking her up at the airport and she had no cell phone. She was ignored by the staff. Another passenger stepped up to help.
...

“Through a translator, she had said she didn’t have the money for a quarantine hotel. He was pointing to her credit cards and asking if she had money on any of them. She had $400 in CASH. He kept saying it wasn’t enough.
...

I can’t imagine what it felt like to be a newcomer here and experience this kind of ignorance and bullying."

Well i bet some ears perked up at this clever analogy..

"Honestly, it's a bit like deciding to have unprotected sex," Furness said.
"If you're double vaccinated and you're in a room with people and you're not sure of their status, it's kind of like wearing half a condom. That is not safe. It's not a good idea... We don't know much about the Delta variant yet because it's so new, but in theory, you can be double vaccinated, you can get infected, you can be subclinical and you can pass it on to others."

Health Canada warns capillary leak syndrome possible side effect of AstraZeneca vaccine
June 30 2021
''Health Canada is updating the label for the Oxford-AstraZeneca and COVISHIELD COVID-19 vaccines to add capillary leak syndrome as a potential side-effect.

70c8fc80

The agency is also including a warning for patients with a history of the ailment to not get those vaccines.

Capillary leak syndrome is a very rare, serious condition that causes fluid leakage from small blood vessels (capillaries), which can result in the swelling of the arms and legs, sudden weight gain, low blood pressure, thickening of the blood and low levels of the albumin blood protein.''

Systemic capillary leak syndrome - Symptoms and causes
''Attacks of systemic capillary leak syndrome are often preceded by one to two days of one or more nonspecific symptoms that may include:
  • Irritability
  • Fatigue
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Muscle aches
  • Increased thirst
  • Sudden increase in body weight
As the fluid leaks out from the bloodstream, blood volume and blood pressure drop. This can starve tissues in the kidneys, brain and liver of the oxygen and nutrients they need for normal function.''

Alberta entered Stage 3 of the Open for Summer Plan on July 1. Nearly all public health measures have been lifted, including:
  • social gatherings – you’re now free to gather indoors and outdoors
  • recreation, performance and entertainment activities can resume
  • business closures and capacity restrictions are gone
  • large events, including concerts, sporting events, exhibitions and festivals can return
Mask use in public indoor setting is no longer required except for in the following situations:
  • working in or visiting some health care settings, such as long-term care
  • using public transit, including ride share vehicles, taxis, motor coaches and shuttles
  • municipalities and businesses can set masking requirements as they see fit (requiring staff and/or customers to wear masks inside their place of business)

From link, thanks! rbbm.
''So far, the federal government has approved four vaccines for use: Pfizer-BioNtech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

The enforcement of this rule could spell trouble for travellers from countries like China or Russia, where much of each population was given the Sinovac and Sputnik V vaccines, respectively.

The vaccines not authorized include: Bharat Biotech (Covaxin, BBV152 A, B, C), Cansino (Convidecia, Ad5-nCoV), Gamalaya (Sputnik V, Gam-Covid-Vac), Sinopharm (BBIBP-CorV, Sinopharm-Wuhan), Sinovac (CoronaVac, PiCoVacc) and Vector Institute (EpiVacCorona).''

I wonder what they will do with international students, students from China, who were required to receive Chinese-made vaccines that are not authorized by the Canadian government. I wonder if their universities will have to add on the cost of quarantine hotels to their students' financial aid packages, or if the universities in Canada will make a deal with the government to keep them in quarantine on their campuses.
