Would have preferred somehow, if the borders opened up a week or so later than Sept 7.......

Effective September 7, foreign nationals who qualify for the fully vaccinated traveller exemption can enter Canada for discretionary travel.''

It was 'best before', but it peed me off, especially since it was more of a jokey type of gifty thing, but would be hoped to last at LEAST a year. I'm the queen of using things past their dates (because everything nowadays seems so quick to expire!), but it annoys me that one of the very few times I don't even think to check the date, it only had one month, and with it being for someone else, they may not feel comfortable using past the 'best before'.

The food banks in ON can accept and send out items that are up to one year past the BB date. Hopefully your friend will appreciate that it's not an expiry date.

I think it's foolish to open the national borders, but Trudeau's goal it to give the illusion that he has managed the entire pandemic - that he's a hero who should be re-elected with a majority government. Alberta is a good example of what happens when the provincial gov't drops all restrictions and ignores the medical community for a month. That may well be the result after dropping border restrictions. By the time the government reacts, it's too late.

I wonder whether that's primarily for international students

That is purely your opinion and you need to state that.

My opinion is that is has mostly to do with international students, who universities rely on to fund their programs.

Indeed, I do need to state that it is my opinion. I hoped that my starting with "I think ... " it would be understood that it is my opinion.

that must've changed since the last time I volunteered at a local one (ages ago)

Yes, it was fairly recent. It might be because Canada was justly criticized for throwing out so much edible food.

The food banks received some very nice financial support from the province this year because of the high demand during covid.

Is anyone surprised? I’m only surprised that it took so long to become public.

Vaccine conversation reminds me of religious and political conversation. I typically respect the fact that other adults have made up their minds about their religion and their political beliefs. People who want to tell me about their political and religious beliefs irritate me. I've made up my mind - please respect that.

I feel the same about vaccines. I couldn't care less about other opinions about horse de-wormers (invermictin) and aquarium cleaner (hydrochlorichine) ... please forgive my spelling ... I have made a decision for myself, other's should do the same, end of discussion.

What's with the weirdos who are stomping around complaining about decisions they made for themselves? If they don't want to wear a mask, fair enough, respect property rights of people who request a mask. Don't want to get vaccinated? No problem, but accept the sacrifice that comes with rejecting vaccines such as small pox, measles and covid.

I call BS on "uncharted territory" regarding federal vaccine passports. Provinces should stop pretending that vaccine passports are a new thing in Canada. I travelled to the Netherlands in 1972 and I had to carry my vaccine record with me. If I was not vaccinated, I could be turned away from the EEC. Children across Canada today provide vaccine records when entering primary school. That's a fact that every parent knows.

Since when is a vaccine a new and daunting responsibility? When will the government tell Canadians that vaccine records (currently called passports) are a fact of life? Whether they choose to update their records or not is their choice, and all choices have consequences. For all we know, being vaccinated makes people more vulnerable to covid - we don't yet know. Regardless, vaccine passports have become more important during global pandemic.

It's not a debate. It's a decision that everyone needs to silently respect.

It's as though mothers vaccinate their infant children; perhaps fathers are unaware, and 20+ years later, those infant children are rampaging because they are vaccinated, or do they simply object to new vaccines? Are they angry that they were vaccinated against smallpox, or is the issue with measles or covid? Where do he anti-vaxers start and stop their argument about vaccines?

How do I get my vaccine passport? Where will I need to show it? - Macleans.ca

Article lists vaccine passport information for provinces that have vaccine passports and how you get one and who is exempt and where you will need them.

For visitors to Canada who don't have vaccine passports, I guess we'll have to use drive-through at restaurants. When we visit family in Canada, once a year we always like to make a visit to Harvey's for a burger with extra pickles. Well have to find a Harvey's with a drive-through.
