Canada - Coronavirus COVID-19 #4

Will be interesting to see how many students continue to wear masks, and for how long. The government can't force people to take off their masks.

Whenever it happens, I expect reduction of mask wearing will be a gradual process, and depend on social attitudes in a location. Some store owners may prefer masks, some stores may go back to certain hours being mask-only, etc.

Fully vaccinated travellers will need to take a rapid test before returning to Canada

Good news for those of us who go back and forth across the border regularly, as of Feb 28th, the PCR test won't be required, just a negative antigen test.

I was a tad disappointed as the antigen test can’t be self-administered. The biggest complaint up till now has been the cost and inconvenience of appointments and that’s not likely to change. Considering antigen tests are not believed to be totally reliable, I’m sort of surprised they’ve went with this.

“Taking a rapid antigen test at home is not sufficient to meet the pre-entry requirement – it must be authorized by the country in which it was purchased and must be administered by a laboratory, healthcare entity or telehealth service.”

Is that a change in the USA and Canada? The decision makes no difference if the USA does not make the same change.

This applies to all travellers coming into Canada from anywhere in the world.

And according to the link above, it applies to vaccinated travellers only.

  • Unvaccinated travellers will continue to be required to test on arrival, on Day 8 and quarantine for 14 days. Unvaccinated foreign nationals will not be permitted to enter Canada unless they meet one of the few exemptions.

This makes it much easier, you can go to the local pharmacy and take the test and wait 15 minutes and have the results with documentation by the pharmacist. Or the clinic in the grocery store and get results in 15 minutes with documentation. And it's covered by insurance.

The US also requires the antigen test, ie Canada now has same requirements as US.

Americans don't need an antigen test, as far as I know from what I've read. Do you have a link for this?

Police move in to arrest Ottawa trucker convoy protesters | CP24.com
''Ottawa police say 21 people have been arrested and 21 vehicles have been towed as the force steps up enforcement against anti-government protesters who have been camped outside Parliament Hill.

The force made the announcement after police clad in riot gear and touting gas masks and tear-gas guns converged on a large crowd of protesters to contain them near the Westin Hotel in downtown Ottawa.''

After 4 weeks of occupying the capital city of Canada, protesters were unsuccessful in ending the pandemic. If only a protest could end a virus!

Protesters have decided to leave Ottawa and make way for the other 249 protest groups that protest in Ottawa every year.

Provincial pandemic mandates have been reduced in some provinces as a result of changes in hospital capacity demands. Those decisions are unrelated to the occupation of Ottawa.

a truck convoy caused an accident near here that a man died in

The MSM article says that the truck convoy was "indirectly involved," not the cause of the accident.
