There are signs that Canada is starting to flatten its curve in the battle against COVID-19, with modeling data suggesting that some provinces have already passed the peak, prompting leaders in those areas to talk about loosening movement restrictions.

4 Toronto emergency child-care centre staff members, 8-month-old test positive for coronavirus
April 29, 2020
''The City of Toronto is reporting four staff members at a child care centre for children of critical service workers and an eight-month-old have tested positive for coronavirus.

According to a statement issued late Monday, the employees work at the Jesse Ketchum Early Learning and Child Care Centre on Berryman Street near Yonge Street and Davenport Road.''

''City staff said the Jesse Ketchum Early Learning and Child Care Centre will be closed for two weeks and it will have a “deep cleaning.” Toronto Public Health approval will be required before the centre reopens, according to the statement.''

Toronto launches ‘bloomcam’ for viewing High Park cherry blossoms
''The City of Toronto has launched a 24-hour livestream and is planning a virtual tour of the High Park cherry blossoms, which have been fenced off to prevent crowding during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The stream reveals little more than barren trees and damp trails at the moment, but as the city is planning to physically block off access to the park starting tomorrow, it will be the only way to get your fill of the beautiful buds.

“We made the difficult decision to close the entire park because it is the only way we can keep people from gathering to see the blossoms and risking further spread of COVID-19,” Toronto Mayor John Tory said Wednesday. “This is about protecting public health and saving lives.”

''In addition to the stream, the city will broadcast Indigenous Knowledge Keeper André Morrisseau’s land acknowledgement, and city parks staff will hold a virtual tour of the grounds and comment on the history of the park’s cherry blossoms.''

Is COVID-19 baby boom a myth? How relationships might be tested during the pandemic
''CALGARY - As Canadians face the possibility of being alone with their significant other for the foreseeable future, some say marital discord is more likely than the kind of intimacy that would lead to a baby boom nine months from now.

Disaster sometimes brings people closer together - pregnancy rates were up slightly following 9/11, and after the well documented power blackout in New York in 1977 the city experienced a small surge in the birthrate.

But that's unlikely to happen here, says Tom McCormack, a business economist from Metro Economics in Burlington, Ont., who assesses recent and future metropolitan area economic and demographic change.''

''In fact, McCormack said with the uncertainty over jobs and a ban on travel, the population is likely to drop slightly until 2021.

“You're not going to get as many people moving to Canada or moving anywhere as you normally would, so the population's going to suffer in the short term,” he said.''

It will be interesting to see if pregnancies rise during this isolation period. I would be concerned about complications of CoVid early in pregnancy. It hasn't been documented much yet. I sense that families will not want to be pregnant during this uncertain time.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority have declared an outbreak of COVID-19 in the northern community of Beauval.

The official notice came around 9 p.m. Friday, hours after the SHA hinted it was coming duringthe daily provincial update.

In the media release, the SHA said the outbreak was linked to an increase in COVID-19 cases. A contact tracing investigation is underway.

While the health authority didn’t elaborate on the number of cases, a worker at the Beauval General Store did test positive earlier in the week.

Anyone who travelled through Beauval between April 12-27 is asked to monitor for symptoms, including fever, cough, difficulty breathing, sore throat, runny nose, chills, body aches, and a diminished sense of smell.

People who notice symptoms should self-isolate immediately and contact HealthLine 811 or their community health centre.

Daughter of 95-year-old Holocaust survivor uses bucket truck to say hello at Toronto nursing home
''The daughter of a 95-year-old Holocaust survivor reached new heights to say hello to her father who has been in isolation at his Toronto nursing home for nearly six weeks.

“He was waving. He was so happy. I said ‘I love you,’” Lee Minkowitz told CTV News Toronto on Friday.

Earlier this week, Lee climbed into a bucket truck and was raised about 30 feet in the air. Wearing personal protective equipment, she caught a glimpse of her father, Max Rosenbloom, who she has not seen face-to-face since his nursing home went into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-March.

“Hi dad,” she is heard yelling from outside his third-floor window in a video captured from below.

“I couldn’t pull out my phone, I was so scared,” she said. “I can’t say I wasn’t afraid, I was reluctant to do it, but I’ll do anything for my parents.”

I think it will be interesting to see the divorce stats in the period following this isolation period.
