''Every day, the online research publication Our World In Data releases information about vaccine doses being administered across the globe. And every day, one country emerges as a world leader: Israel.

For example, when the University of Oxford-based organization released its Jan. 1 data, the total number of vaccination doses administered per 100 people for Canada was 0.26. For the U.S., it was 0.84. The United Kingdom: 1.47. And for Israel it was 11.55, 44 times more than Canada.

But Israel, with a population of nine million, was also tied for third in the world in total number of doses (1 million), behind China (4.5 million) and the U.S. (2.79 million). Canada's dose count totalled just under 100,000.''

''Nadav Davidovitch, director of the School of Public Health at Ben Gurion University, also lauded the country's digitized medical record system as "one of the best in the world," which is helping with the organization of vaccination efforts and helping keep track of those on the priority list who should get a shot.''

''Davidovitch said Israel and its tech-based economy, and connections to the pharmaceutical industries, made it an attractive candidate for Pfizer to supply its vaccines.''

''In comparison, Ontario, with a population of 14.5 million, has only 19 vaccination clinics across the province. These 19 sites all contain the special freezers needed to store the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.''

Is Ontario moving in the same direction as other provinces? In Alberta, there has been an option to purchase 2-year stickers. Next is no stickers:

"Starting in the new year, Alberta licence plates will start to be sticker-free. The province says the stickers, which mark the year and month of a vehicle’s registration, have become redundant in the era of reflective plates.

The government is moving to high-definition reflective licence plates, which the province says are more easily scanned roadside by police and other law enforcement agencies.
...

Four Canadian jurisdictions have already ditched stickers: Quebec, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories. Stickers will still be required for farm vehicles and commercial vehicles that travel between regions as part of international agreements."
Alberta ditches registration stickers on licence plates, moves to reflective ones

the two-year option has been available for a long time in Ontario - not sure about ditching stickers but have seen a lot of the new plates

Why is non essential travel being allowed. I don’t get it.

“Though people travelling for non-essential reasons can apply for the benefit if they meet the requirements, Hossack told La Presse the government was still encouraging Canadians to stay put.

“The benefit was created for workers who need time to stay at home… But we were very clear from the start: we advise against any non-essential travel,” she told the outlet in French.”

It's the honour system. Non-Canadians are not allowed in Canada, and Canadians are discouraged from travel. The USA remained open to air travel from many countries, including Canada.

A number of provincial government officials, who travelled for non-essential reasons, have been demoted (resigned, let go) for not walking in the shoes of the constituents who were told to stay home, and did.

Bad news about the South Africa mutation and vaccinations - as expected, the key part of the virus that is targetted by the vaccine has mutated.

"U.K. scientists expressed concern on Monday that COVID-19 vaccines being rolled out in Britain may not be able to protect against a new variant of the coronavirus that emerged in South Africa and has spread internationally.
...

Simon Clarke, an associate professor in cellular microbiology at the University of Reading, said that while both variants had some new features in common, the one found in South Africa "has a number additional mutations … which are concerning."

He said these included more extensive alterations to a key part of the virus known as the spike protein — which the virus uses to infect human cells — and "may make the virus less susceptible to the immune response triggered by the vaccines."

Lawrence Young, a virologist and professor of molecular oncology at Warwick University, also noted that the variant detected in South Africa has "multiple spike mutations."

"The accumulation of more spike mutations in the South African variant are more of a concern and could lead to some escape from immune protection," he said."

One thing is certain - Canadians will not tolerate hypocrisy!

Numerous politicians, provincial and federal, are being named, shamed and demoted for telling Canadians to stay home and avoid travel while they holidayed for various reasons around the world.

"As Canadians were urged to stay indoors and limit holiday celebrations to members of their households, a growing number of politicians across Canada have admitted to travelling outside the country despite pandemic restrictions.

Federal and provincial politicians alike have come under fire — or drawn rebuke from their leaders — for choosing to leave Canada as COVID-19 cases continue to climb in parts of the country."

No, we Canadians won’t tolerate hypocrisy or other negative behaviour. We view our politicians simply...just as persons we have elected to serve us and our country. We do not put them on pedestals, but then nor do we hold them to a higher standard. We hold them to the very same standard we expect of ourselves. In other words, we expect them to be ethical, honest, law abiding individuals who possess both intelligence and common sense. Arrogance and self importance and hypocrisy are not qualities we admire and as much as Canadians are know for saying
“ sorry”, there are times when sorry is not good enough.

CBC repeating that people should not travel for non-essential reasons.

People who travel for essential reason have to track down a covid test and provide a negative result before they can board a plane to return to Canada.

When they arrive in Canada they must self-isolate for 2 weeks, and they should not dare collect the gov't sick pay while in post-travel quarantine.

Posting this link for awareness of what will happen if Canadians choose to ignore health experts. Some parts of the USA are now triaging patients, and we know that means people over 60 will be left without health care.

"Ambulance crews in the county are now being advised to conserve oxygen and not to transport patients who have virtually no chance of survival to the hospital because resources need to be reserved for those with better prognoses.

In Arrowhead's ICU units, patient demographics have shifted with the surge, Mann said. 'They're coming in younger and coming in sicker,' she said.

Adding to California's concerns is the emergence of a new mutant strain of coronavirus that is said to be 70 percent more transmissible than the original. "
