I know we are not supposed to reach out to family members, but it would be wonderful if they can join us here.

You can contact the association Homepage - Missing Children's Network and they'll forward to the family.
I have zero energy right now for searching a page about finding Danielle Boisvert on FB, although I bet that there is one.

I had already contacted a family to check about if the love one could speak French because his name came out as a possible match for a Montreal UID. The family was actually glad I did it. I found them through Facebook, they did set up a page for the MP.

I told them that I haven't seen him, but he might be a possible match for an UID at Montreal, but I can't promise that he is the person.
First email was about whether the person was fluent in French. Then, the family answered asking me if I saw him, it's only after their reply that I brought up our possible UID.

The family will always be happy that strangers try to search their love one without asking anything.

The key point is not promising them you will find the person, akin don't promise results. Otherwise, it gives them false hopes.
But with your means, you want to help.

I am not sure the family will join here because of a possible language barrier: I am not sure at all they'll be at ease at writing in English.
Maybe, maybe not.
And I don't trust Google Translation on this point, as they easily turn translations into a headache!

I think that if someone reach them through a FB group, it would be really necessary that a French native does it.
Otherwise, there are too many risks of lost in translation moments.

If you want to reach out to the family, the Quebec NGO I linked is your best bet.

''On November 6, 1979, 18-year-old Danielle Boisvert and her boyfriend left their apartment in Montreal-North to join friends at a local brasserie. On their way, the couple had an argument and Danielle’s boyfriend returned home, while Danielle decided to meet up with her friends as planned. Around 11 o’clock, the bartender saw Danielle say good-bye to her friends and leave the establishment. She has not been seen since.

Many years later, Danielle’s family is clinging to the hope that one day she will be back home. Thank you for helping us keep hope alive.''

Thank you!

If a French native or bilingual can search if there's a FB group about Danielle Boisvert, it'd be great!

  • #85
A French native-speaker or someone who's bilingual would be optimal though for sure at least some of her brothers/nieces/nephews are more than capable in English.
I'd never heard of this case before WS but it isn't the first time I've heard the "we argued and I've never seen her again" one.

I keep on coming back here. I'm very curious what the conclusion of LE was, after investigating. (Did they and what did they do?) Did the family gave DNA for a potential identification of remains found in the future?

I still have the idea that there is not enough manpower to dig in these cold cases and that they get colder and colder. Who is advocating for Danielle at the moment. How are her sister and brothers doing?

Somehow I get a sad feeling with the Canadian older cases.....jurisdiction spread, different police forces....certainly not working together in those days....lack of a good international missing and unidentified database for a long time........happy to see they are still building and reaching out to the public more and more, which I consider as a good thing.

I feel you, our Police forces, especially the SQ and SPVM were really behind everything and begun to catch on technology and forensics and all with the internet and a new generation of cops, the cops of the 70's and 80's were cops of the 50's and 60's era who din't even need a secondary school diploma...

And even today, the old arrogance of "we know it all" still manifest themselve for time to time: best exemple: a 10 years old boy just dissapeared walking home from school here in Montreal in 2018, when I heard the news, There was an Amber alert, but was cancelled 24h later since the boy dissapeared close to a park by the river, they decided that the boy must have been playing in the park and fell in the river... they decided to send the divers and when nothing was found they declared that his body will resurface in springtime... since then, nothing...

2 years later, Ariel Jeffrey Kouakou's family still hopes he'll be found

It's very difficult imagining this case (Boisvert) will be solved, especially w/o a body. It's been 42 years. Boyfriend's dead. The obvious place (I would guess) to dump a body in Montreal is the river... It's sad. Hopefully, it will be solved. Stranger things have happened.

Hi -- first time post.
I'm not a Francophone but I did live in Montreal for a few years. I can't remember encountering any locals named "Paulo" though "Paul" is a normal enough name. I found a small article about a "Paul Chevrier" dying in a housefire in Laval (Laval is north across the river) on 22-Dec-1994. It says that was 36 (so born in 1958). I'll try to attach it.[/QUOT

I know we are unsure and in the main think that the body found at Prairies River mentioned earlier in the thread was most likely a female other than Danielle, especially due to the time that passed re. condition it was supposedly found in (without bringing up the obvious once again in case family reading this). However, I wonder if the police have ever id'ed that UID that was found. I don't know if it is out of order to write and ask? That way, we would know for sure. I don't speak french (despite my name on here lol). I would really hesitate to write, even though I'm Canadian, as I had two good responses in the past re questions to Canadian coroners, and I don't want to push my luck.

In reading one article, it says the UID that was being discussed in this thread was skeletal, if so, that would mean it would be a possibility it could be D.B. as just the height is a bit off from D.B. I'm guessing her family would've tried to look into that. Still, there is an email address in this link for inquiries... Canada's Missing | Case details (rcmp-grc.gc.ca)

It's such a common name.....still looking out for her....finding people with the same name on LinkedIn, making my heart jump a little...but no....she is not one of them. We can never be 100 % sure if something really bad happened to her or that she just went away. The latter is hard for me to understand and believe, having an extended family who loved her...all of a sudden...no preparation....I think it's safe to say Danielle met her faith that night....Canada is so big....where are her remains? You are not forgotten Danielle.

I fully share your opinion, we will never know if she left on her own or was murdered, much less where her remains are...
either way
rest in peace
