Canada - Dawn Dumont Walker, 48, accused of abducting her son and faking their deaths, Saskatoon, 23 Jul 2022

not sure why they would have stopped at this park - would be interesting to know if they had been there before or if it had any special meaning for them- no one has said that fishing gear was found or that anyone saw them, which is odd. Maybe they stopped to see the sun set? I also would not take a handbag out with me to go fishing or swimming....I could possibly see the boy getting too close or too deep in water without thinking too hard and her trying to save him. Were either of them swimmers? Did they have bathing suits if he was just droppped off 30 minutes before? Also- what is the water temperature of the river?
about 60F today, though this says "sea" so not really sure about the river; it gives
examples of lake water and says it is all too cold for swimming

this is the South Saskatchewan river flows 7/20 to 8/4....seems highly variable but they do not tell you water temps.

and (not Canadian)... I just do not know)
I'll keep looking for more temperature information, but it looks like cold, deep, fast flowing.

Maybe you can figure out the water temp near Saskatoon from this report.

If they went into the river near the vehicle, given the high water levels in July, I think they could be at the bottom of the river, unsurfaced, or in the weir.

"The RCMP attached a tracking device to the ... and put it in the river in February to monitor its movements, its temperature and flow rates of the river.
...

RCMP say the pig carcass stayed at the river bottom until May 25, then started moving -- a signal from the tracking device was picked up about 190 kilometres down stream from Saskatoon on June 8.

The tracking equipment and temperature probe were found last week, but police think scavengers in the remote area took the carcass."

Since she vanished, she has been painted as a tragic victim of domestic abuse.

Perhaps we should look at who she is beyond that. She is a comedian. She's apparently one of the funniest people in Canada. Why would she take a 7 year old to the river after the child has had a long, intense day. He was fed and ready for bed at 6:30 PM. Were they going to sleep by the river on Saturday (July 23) before driving to Edmonton the following morning to see the Pope?

“With her communication skills, her personality, and her attitude, it was a daily thing to hear from her or to give her a call, so everyone knew something was wrong when we didn’t hear from her,” Cameron said. “When her dog was in her house barking, there was dog poop and urine in her house, something was wrong. Her son’s iPad was still in the room, her suitcase and everything is still in the room."

She was to leave for the Pope’s visit yesterday (Sunday), so something was wrong.”

I've been looking for a link to who said she was going fishing - anyone have it handy?

Police reported that they found the vehicle, the purse, the blanket spread out next to the river, no cell phone. Most people keep the cell phone on their body, so no surprise that she and her cell phone are missing.

No mention of police discovering fishing rods leaves me wondering whether this was fishing with a stick and a string, or actual fishing. Is the theory that they were standing on the edge of the river, the boy lost his footing, the mother went in after him and they held on to their fishing rods? Perhaps a criminal found them at the edge of the river and kidnapped them and their fishing rods?

It sounds like the child went to summer day-camp first thing in the morning. After the program ended, he had pizza supper with his sister, father and step mother. Then the family went to an amusement park where he rode the mini-train. At the end of a long day for a 7 year old, did his mother drive him 15-30 minutes South of Saskatoon to the edge of a non-swimming river? Perhaps the mother and child were kidnapped from where ever the father and mother met for the child around 6 PM?

I'll look for water temps, but from everything I've read it is a boating river where dogs play in the water near the shore. There is no swimming in the river within the Saskatoon City Limits due to water safety concerns, but the fire department has no jurisdiction on the river South of Saskatoon.

they also found a fishing rod
A man CTV News spoke with at the park, who did not wish to be named, said he was the person who initially came across Walker's belongings which included a fishing rod.

I hadn’t read that article but something flagged for me. The park they went to is a popular dog park.. it seems weird if they own a dog they didn’t bring to that park?

I grew up in Saskatoon, there are a ton of parks and paces to go. But to go in the evening after Vinnie appeared to have a full day of camp and train ride, to go to the beach you can take dogs to and not bring theirs? Would be interested I know if she worked that day? If so the dog would have needed exercise? Maybe seems weird for me to think of this but I have a dog and so this came to mind.

Dawn left the dog at home before 6 PM on Saturday. Word is that she collected her son around 6 PM and drove South of Saskatoon where she put a blanket on the river bank after 6:30 PM.

On Sunday work colleagues checked her home, discovered the upset dog, looked for her and reported her missing. The immediate connection was to missing and murdered women and domestic violence, not about being one of the three funniest people in Canada. Who is creating the message?

Until someone names the alleged domestic abuser, I think those allegations should be set aside. I also was surprised that her colleagues checked her apartment less than 24 hours after she picked up her son. The dog was barking so they checked on her?

That reminds me of Nancy Cooper in North Carolina (originally from Edmonton). Her friends checked for her less than 24 hours later and, turned out, her husband did it.

Did Dawn have a boyfriend? It's four year since her relationship with the child's father.

Interesting point - that she took her son to a dog park but left the dog at home. She also went there in the evening. It sounds like more of a day park for dogs.

Right. As the CEO of FSIN, is her schedule public?

In the case of Nancy Cooper I think her friends and family were genuinely scared that Brad would hurt her and she was checking in with them. Maybe this is similar but we just don’t know but it definitely could be…
I hate to even type this but I just think at least one of the bodies would have surfaced after 12 days if they accidentally drowned.

I wonder. Her friends said that they all checked in with each other often and daily. When they couldn't get hold of her, I suppose that's when they discovered the distressed dog. It sounds like they had access to her home and decided fairly quickly that she was not on her way to Edmonton to see The Pope. His ipad, her suitcase, the blanket on the river's edge, what happened to one of the funniest three people in Canada?

If the bodies went into the South Saskatchewan River in July, they would probably be tumbling in the weir. Search parties would leave this as the last place to search because weirs are dangerous, and if they're in the weir they are deceased.

There’s still hope. I really hope they are both found safe.

I am still considering foul play here as well. If it was just Dawn being missing, I would be suspicious of her ex, as he appears to be the last person to see her alive and well. But I don't think he would harm his son.

I still don't really understand why she went to the river at that late hour. Her son had a very very full day already. It seemed like he would have been fine with going home to eat dinner and play with his dog.

On top of that, they still had a road trip planned to see the Pope. I'd think she would have picked up her boy and gone home to get things in order. That river visit confuses me.

Not everyone wants down time. I have a friend by whom I am constantly amazed at how much she will pack into a day. I would never plan as much as she does. Yet she loves every minute of it. Dawn sounds like someone that enjoyed being active.

foul play isn't off the table for me, my kids never slept so that would have been me at the park, I wonder who her recent partner was. I've looked into the ex seems like a stand-up guy and family. Dawn Dumont is the name when she writes I was confused by the names Walker Dumont - and variations of it.

Based on the father's comments, particularly regarding Dawn's wishes to take the child away from Saskatoon, it seems like he believes that Dawn may have staged the scene at the river and left the area - possibly crossing the border into the USA. I'm curious when their last court/custody applications were filed.

This is the law that prevented Dawn from taking the child away from Saskatoon. Interestingly, grandparents rights are also included in custody rights in Saskatchewan.

"In Saskatchewan, under The Children’s Law Act, 1997 parents who were married, or lived together when the child was born are joint legal custodians of the child with equal rights, powers and duties. The status of joint legal custodians can be altered by court order or by the parents’ agreement. Parents can agree that only one of them will have custody, or that someone else will have custody of their child. They can specify rights and duties of each parent, and set up access by the child to one of the parents or any other person."

I would believe that myself, except how could she ever continue her successful career as an author, comic and actor?

Everything that is her life is in Canada.

I don't see how she could start anew in the US with her son. She's a very recognizeable and social person.
