Here is the "To Catch a Killer" episode featuring Donna's murder:
http://youtu.be/cFcX0esQ24g

That was fantastic, really good show with some tips to help sleuthers too!
Now why oh why does that composite of poi look familiar?
The family seemed to recognize the updated composite right away and appeared surprised by it imo.

This family has been devastated, just decimated by that cruel, callous attack on their dear beloved daughter and sister, 17 year old Donna Jean - who was just trying to earn a bit of money babysitting.
My heart goes out to them, very glad to see the attention this case is receiving.
Wish they could give a little hint about the poi, as other cases come to mind..
moo.

Again, why is no one giving the side eye to the woman that Donna babysat for? Why couldn't that woman get her own cigs? Was she questioned and who was the man the woman was with?

  • #24
I hear you scriptgirl and have the same questions and more.

The fact that she passed a polygraph made me chuckle - she doesn't appear to know what day, month or year it is. Her recollection was selective at best, or not there at all, imo.

Hope her kids turned out better. Jmo.

She passed a poly? is she still alive, what about that man she was with?

"The victim’s sister, Tammy Dennett, has been vigilantly tracking Donna’s killer for years and has posted many details on her Facebook page. After Saturday’s program, more than 40 Facebook users provided Tammy with their online views and comments.

This program, the first of eight unsolved murders examined by Arntfield and his crew, will look at two other London cases. Jacquelyn English was 15 when she was abducted and murdered in 1969, and Lynda White was a 19-year-old Western student who disappeared after writing an exam in 1968 and whose body was found in a shallow grave near St. Williams in Norfolk County nearly five years later.

I have not been an avid fan of such programs as ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ and ‘Mythbusters’ so I can’t compare them to the quality of Arntfield’s program. But I can say that he and his group of amateur sleuths do a darn good job and put together a top-notch show.

And, I should add, if any of you happened to have murdered Donna Awcock, or know who did, would you mind calling 911 or even sending me an email at the address that appears with this column"

Again, what is known about the man that the woman who asked Donna to go get her cigarettes was with?

Here is what happened with the man you are asking about scriptgirl, to the best of my recollection in DJA episode of 'To Catch A killer'.

You are asking about the woman Donna Jean was babysitting for that night and the man she brought home with her from the bar she visited that night. The original sketch of this man, put out by LE at the time of DJA's murder, was a combination of various features by multiple people. In other words, it resembled no one.

Dr Mike (To Catch A Killer) spoke to a woman who sat at the table the night of the murder. She produced a sketch, with experts provided from the show, of someone else that was there that night - she was quite sure of her recollection of his features even after all this time.

When Donna Jean's family was shown this new sketch they recognized a person they knew.

Other aspects of the episode pointed to the killer as someone DJA knew. For instance DJA crying and frightened while at the store, and wanting to make a phone call, which she was sadly denied. Also the route from the apartment to the store - statistically the perp knew this area due to the short distance.

FWIW - the OPP are coming under a lot of fire in Canada for their inaction so far regarding these episodes. The OPP have gone so far as to say they have not received any info from the new investigators. It will likely get interesting.

Why was DJA crying and frightened? Has this man ever been named? I hope that store owner feels awful. What do you mean when you say the woman who sat at the table?

  • #30
It's thought or assumed someone followed Donna Jean to the store - and she knew it. She likely wanted to call her mom. Not sure if the person that denied Donna Jean the use of the phone was the owner or a clerk.

The man who resembles the sketch has not been named publicly to best of my knowledge, however DJA's family now knows who it is.

The woman DJ babysat for was at a bar that night with a number of people - all at the same table. The woman that produced the sketch was one of them.

So the woman asked Donna to babysit and then went to a bar. Classy. Why hasn't the man be named?

  • #32
It appears that no one knew who this mysterious guy was - hence the sketch. Apparently the woman that brought him home, where her children were, didn't know who he was either. Classy indeed.

He may have entered the apartment where Donna Jean was babysitting, or he may not have, after Donna went to the store. The woman that Donna Jean was babysitting for was very iffy and non-committal on that point. Imo.

Bottom line, he seemed not to be local, whereas the known facts statistically point to someone familiar to Donna Jean and the area. The recognized and somewhat known person at the bar had the opportunity to realize Donna Jean was babysitting at a particular apartment.

Missed from my previous posts - when Donna Jean appeared crying and frightened at the store, she did not tell the clerk she was followed by a stranger - pointing to someone she knew had approached her on the way to the store.

How was this guy somewhat known? What happened to the guy that lived in the same apartment complex as Donna and her family?

31 years later, the murder of 17 year old Donna Awcock remains unsolved. But with the help of a team of experts led by a local forensics investigator, old cold cases are being re-visited. University students are also taking part in giving a fresh outlook on unsolved homicides. As these investigations continue, killers on the loose may soon be brought to justice. Gareth Bush has the story"

I remember this case, my friends and I still talk of it. Wondering what went wrong with the investigation that a killer would be free for so many years.

In DJA episode of to catch a killer it seemed like the 1 sister recognized the composit drawing, which gives new hope for this case being solved.

There seems to be several unsolved murders in the London area, some of the cases very old,

I don`t know how these families cope with the not knowing

Is there a viable link to Donna's TCAK ep? The one posted here doesn't work.

Bumping for Donna Jean. It's been 31 years but we haven't forgotten.

I was just a baby when this happened but with so many unsolved murders of young women in London & as a woman growing up in London, these cases are beyond haunting. These victims deserve justice & their families deserve closure.

Can't understand why the woman who hired DJA gave such an incredibly false description of the man she brought home that night. Tbh & jmho, the sketch looks like Conway Twitty. Nothing like the description provided by the friend who was at the bar with this woman on the evening in question.

I forget the details of the DJA ep of TCAK but the host/creator of TCAK recently published a book that discusses many of Londons' older cold cases. There is a "chapter" about Donnas' case but not sure if it contains new info (not included in DJAs' TCAK ep).

The purse contained many photographs of family and friends and had a Pepsi button pinned to the front.

"It's like opening a time capsule. It's pretty amazing," says Donna's sister Tammy Dennett.
"When you see the pictures, you just remember she was a person."
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact OPP.

"(I) just wish they find out who did it or somebody come forward with information. Somebody knows who done this," adds Bennett.
