Concerning Mariam Peters, there does not seem to be much info. about that case.
Google her name and a blog concerning a TTC head pops up and a reference to MP's friendship with his 3 daughters.
Did someone target the offspring (or their friends) from prominent members of some communities ?

I do not recall having read that witness account before, even though I have gone over all the Star articles.

I believe the key to this case lies in Windsor. That's where the gun was stolen and that's where it was later found. The killer either lived there or passed through frequently. I do not believe it's related to local drug activity amongst youths.

This is slightly random but just bumping not only this post but the earlier discussion on this thread between Crimesolver, DXman and others. Couple of things:

1. I think the key to the case might lie very very close to where the girls were found. I think it was SamIAm this thread who posted on the links between the companies by the waste field where they were found and Windsor.

2. I can only say this super generally there is a creative artist in Canada who encodes intimate references to some unsolved Toronto homicides in his books I guess as a kind of game but who knows. For example in this case (and to be straight up I have not found many references there to this case) but the name of the witness to gunshots and the way the bodies of the girls lay and the kind of murder weapon - in the Dennis Howe case scenes are set IN the rooming house if you follow the directions and read through the very slightly disguised street name etc.

No doubt a game of some kind but possibly some slumming with criminals and some knowledge - so it interests me.

Adding: aural evidence witness C. heard two thumps like something hitting the ground around 11:00. I think this probably has to be rejected I mean as relating to this case. The time is wrong, why would you hear two bodies hitting the ground and not the shots? She admits hearing noise often from the 401.

Aural witness K. hears shots around midnight which of course fits better with the timeline we have following SitnEat. However I am very suspcious that all of the witnesses (this one, at SitnEat and at Lawrence, and the person finding the body) are all 17 same age as the girls

Why didn't K's parents hear the shots? Or anyone else?

There is the car leaving possibly form the field around 12 but we know little about who the witness is for that.

I would love for a really critical forensic specialist to look over whatever is left and the notes and consider the possibility they were dumped rather than killed in the field. Possibly a different timeline.

Father of one of the girls in article noted that SitnEat pretty well back on to the military grounds have to have a look again on the map to see what he means.

1. The green space just north of Keelegate would be the military base. Downsview Restaurant on the map is same mall as SitnEat the latter being most last business in mall before Keelegate. North was Texaco station still a (different) gas station. Witness at SitnEat didn't see them hitching a ride and said if so they must have got a ride very fast since he didn't see them.

2. Mariam Peters lived on Cuffley which as I now see actually backs on to the parking lot of the SitnEat forget what her address was though. Family had moved further north at time of T/S murders but possibly still had links to the area? If you use google street view you can see the parking lot of what was the SitnEat behind the houses on Cuffley.

Mariam attacked at either St. Patrick or St. Andrews station on site Dotr mentioned above, googling her name someone says it was St. Andrews which is interesting because it is two further stops than the logical stop from Mt. Sinai where she was visiting grandfather.

More and more I think they should see if they have DNA on Mariam since I think if so it is going to match up with other things.

Note on the map the presence of Tilbury Street in the article I attach it appears LE not long ago were looking at unsolved homicide of two young women in Tilbury ON. I know probaby a coincidence. Article was linked before but here it is again.

I think I can offer helpful information on this case. I tried to contact Wendy's sister Linda through a private message but she did not respond. I have tried incessantly to telephone the police and authorities - I believe in Toronto...They do not respond and I have called maybe 50 times to offer information. I find it useless to pursue that more.

I can link a perpetrator to that area at that time and show similar assissination type murders of girls/women of similar ages. Its a kidnapping gone bad - the girls likely fought back - and the perpetrator made them lie face down and shot them in the the back of their heads. I can offer the family links to other police forces in North America who likely dealt with victims of a same perpetrator. The results may give closure to surviving family members.

If anyone has any way to help link me to family members who may be pursuing helpful leads on this case I will gladly do all I can to connect people to those who might be able to help. Back channel me if possible.

Chorley, you mention Miriam Peters having lived on Cuffley, behind the Sit-'n'-Eat. That's curious, but I wonder if it's more than just a coincidence. Then again, the individual who stabbed her in the subway station was described as a soft-spoken young man, as I recall (perhaps a schoolmate?).

But mostly likely thing seems someone just horribly disturbed - and lucky - 16 times I would think they would be covered with blood? How did they get away at 8:00 p.m. I wonder? Seems strange. Unless she was left lying there for a while before discovered?

And still to keep in mind: 16 wounds/16 years old (therefore her knew her?)

Scarbrough was working in that trailer all day. In a small window of time in which Karen was alone the perp entered her trailer where she was part of a sales team for Ryan Homes, Dale City area (soon to be) new neighborhood.

Because the two customers entered when Scarbrough was being taken all 3 women were summarily executed and the perpetrator was seen and sketched leaving the trailer.

Their are plenty of linkages to these crimes having been committed by the same perpetrator.

If this was the case then this was likely an attempt to take Tedford and Sterne, the girls figured out that they were being rused, said no, likely fought back and as a result they too were executed on the spot.

The Prince Williams County Police showed me the Scarbrough case when I telephoned to offer them information on a different case.

The case I was calling about I had theorized that James Mitchell DeBardeleben was the culprit in the kidnapping and murder case of Cynthia Gastelle.

The police confirmed to me the fact that they had already established DeBardeleben as the most likely candidate of the Gastelle case.

The officer then showed me the Scarbrough case which included the reality that the PW county police actually went to interview DBLN down in his NC prison cell. The police force was summarily sued for their efforts by DBLN - a jailhouse "lawyer".

Then I was able to establish that DBLN was very active in Canada - the key to this was a realtor Mary Ann Plett murdered in 1971 - murdered by an out of town client "Dave Cooper". Of course DBLN was indicted for realtor murders in 1971 Barrington Rhode Island and 1982 Bossier City, Louisiana.

Then I was able to link DBLN as an extremely active serial killer all over Canada.

The Stearne and Tedford murders occurred at the Easter break 1973. This was a special time of kidnapping and (likely torturing through sexual sadism) and murdering girls and women for DBLN. I can name cases for1973 (Tedfor and Stearne) 1975, (in prison 76, 77, 78 Easter) 79, 80, 81, 82 Easter. That means I have not found 71, 72, 74 and 83 yet.

The Canadian police have ignored all VM and efforts on my part to relate this information to them. They just do not care - as many police forces - do not care about bringing some closure to cases like these.

If anyone knows how to create pressure for the Toronto police force to pay attention let me know.

I certainly have no idea how to bring some sense of potential relief and closure to family members who may want to know.

The Prince William County police can help Toronto with linkages to the Tedford and Stearne crimes.

BARRINGTON --- James M. Debardeleben, indicted last week for the murder 13 1/2 years ago of Barrington real estate agent Edna B. MacDonald, was charged because a succession of Barrington police officers wouldn't give up.

John Migliaccio, a Rhode Island assistant attorney general who took Barrington's case to the Providence County grand jury, said that he knows of no other police departments that showed more "dogged persistence" than Barrington in investigating the strangulation slaying of Mrs. MacDonald.

Barrington Police Chief Alfred T. Oliver Jr. shrugged off the accolades.

"We just operate under the premise that no crime is unsolvable," Oliver said.

Instead of taking credit, Oliver issued a press release thanking the Secret Service, Rhode Island Atty. Gen. Dennis J. Roberts II, the state police, former Barrington Police Chief Stanley D. Gontarz, the state medical examiner's office and the Rhode Island Board of Relators.

But in an interview last Friday, Migliaccio praised the Barrington force. "I just can't believe the work they did," he said.

MIGLIACCIO SAID all one has to do is compare Barrington's work with that of other police departments around the country since Debardeleben's arrest by Secret Service agents on counterfeiting charges in Tennessee in May, 1983.

The case broke when the Secret Service agents traced several phony names used by Debardeleben to an apartment in Alexandria, Va., and to storage bins in Manassas, Va., and Alexandria.

From the apartment and bins, the agents said they seized counterfeiting equipment, tape recordings of women being tortured and sodomized, 200 to 300 pairs of women's panties, coded murder plots in Debardeleben's handwriting, coded itineraries, and the photographs of up to 1,000 different women, many naked and many now unaccounted for, the agents said.

The Secret Service sent out a flyer on the evidence to police departments across the country. Most filed it away without taking much notice.

BUT BARRINGTON saw a similarity between Mrs. MacDonald's slaying and the murder two years ago of 37-year-old Bossier City, La., realtor Jean McPhaul. She too had been strangled.

Oliver immediately put Det. Sgt. Louis J. Gelfuso and Det. Gary M. Palumbo on the case.

At first, it appeared Debardeleben wasn't Barrington's suspect. Gelfuso and Palumbo sent a series of questions about him to the Secret Service, and the answers were all negative.

But a Secret Service agent remarked, "Hey, we seized 18,500 documents from this guy. Why don't you come down and take a look?"

In early May, Gelfuso and Palumbo flew to Secret Service headquarters in Washington. By that time, the Secret Service had cross-referenced the 18,500 documents by computer.

Secret Service agent Gregory J. Mertz had also, by that time, broken the code used by Debardeleben.

The Barrington detectives spent five days going over the computerized file in Washington. They discovered a coded murder plot that closely resembled how Mrs. MacDonald and Mrs. McPhaul were slain. They also obtained a sample of Debardeleben's handwriting from the Secret Service.

BUT HOW to pick up the threads of a case 13 1/2 years old? For Barrington it was easy because its policemen never left the trail, and that, Migliaccio said, separates the Barrington force from other police departments.

Gontarz was the chief when Mrs. MacDonald's body was found late on the night of April 30, 1971, in the basement of a newly built house on Heritage Drive, strangled with one of her stockings.

The former chief, now retired and living in Arizona, once described himself as "obsessed" with finding Mrs. MacDonald's slayer. In the 11 years between her murder and his retirement, Gontarz tracked down every lead, traveling throughout the Northeast with his detectives.

Oliver was on the force at the time of the murder. He saw the commitment. Gelfuso was a rookie patrolman at the time, and saw it too. So did Palumbo, who joined the force a year later.

Without that commitment, the flyer from the Secret Service might have been filed away without a thought, as other police departments did, Migliaccio said.

Now that the code has been broken, the Secret Service is notifying many of those departments that Debardeleben was in their area when crimes were committed. Others picked up on similarities to crimes in their areas.

But many cannot do anything because the trail is cold, with witnesses lost.

Barrington never lost contact. Armed with photographs of Debardeleben, Gelfuso and Palumbo went to the witnesses.

"They spent long, hard hours reinterviewing all the witnesses from 1971," Migliaccio said. He said 22 witnesses will be called at Debardeleben's trial in the spring and several, he added, will put Debardeleben in Barrington at the time of Mrs. MacDonald's slaying.

The detectives also matched Debardeleben's handwriting to forms filled out at a Barrington real estate agency by the man last seen with Mrs. MacDonald.

"MY POINT," said Migliaccio, "is other police departments did not have the continuity of pursuit as did Barrington. So, they cannot resolve crimes that Debardeleben has been linked to because they did not persist in following up every lead over the years.

"Chief Gontarz and Chief Oliver," Migliaccio said, "had the presence of mind to continue to allocate time to a significant case."

"From the day this murder happened," Gelfuso added, "we have maintained a constant contact with the case."

Oliver and his detectives don't want the spotlight. But in an offhand comment not meant for attribution, Gelfuso said of the hours he and Palumbo worked: "You know how pilots log their hours? We don't have a log sheet, but we'll put up our hours against any pilot."

The Secret Service of the US has been sitting on 1000 different victims photographed (6000 different pictures total) since 1983.

Families have suffered.

Cases all over websleuth - including this one (although Tedford and Stearne fought back and were not kidnapped nor likely photographed) they could have been easily linked decades ago.

The MOUNTAIN of evidence sits in the Secret Service vaults to this day.

Instead of helping families who are surely tortured to this day or till their dying breathe get justice or at least closure they hid their dirty secrets out of their own reasons. To me no reason can rise to the level of justice to hide from families the reality that their daughter/mother/sister/loved ones photos or sadistic trophy lies in the possession of this agency with no effort to help a family know more of what happened.

And mind you DBLN died in prison in 2011 - so many many families were denied justice too!

Can you say more about the basis of your ideas in this case Wendy and Donna? What makes you think Deb. could be involved in the case? Did he meet them downtown or at the SitnEat etc. I ask because it would not be a common area for a visitor of whatever kind to be in. And one would think the person would have to know about the field where they were found. If he had a gun how would they fight back etc. Thanks. Obviously Deb. would do anything so I have no problem with that part. Also Deb. seemed to have a lot of guns yet in this case the gun is recycled and appears to have been in less than great condition. He seems to have been inordinately clever so why shoot the girls deep in a field right beside a survey of houses?

Trying to get my head around the kidnapping followed by execution scenario with these two victims at just that place at just that time. I realize yes for sure Deb. there are lots of unknown victims.

Yes I wonder if the MP witness is still alive and if he was ever shown a yearbook from her school and now I would add from Downsview school? Your idea is a good one. And Crimesolver also brought up notion of a student in Mariam P. case. (I am not dismissing the new info by the way).

It is a very strange thing (for me) though obviously probably a coincidence but the one time each I went to 'investigate' the body find site and the back pack find site in the Mariam Makhniashvili case I was approached by young men who approached me with an odd question. That is going on two years ago now and thinking about it I don't think it has happened since - since I am older young people just don't come up to me out of blue and start talking to me.

1. Walking up from York Mills station on Yonge a tallish apparently healthy and well off light to reddish hair young man said from out of town backpack stopped me and said may I ask you a question? Why does the TTC not give change on the buses? I said I had no idea and he told me "you should think about it."

2. At 120 E. east in the parking lot a very very nervous five foot eight dark slightly curly haired young man again well off looking with a paper in his hand sort of crumpled up came up to me anxiously and asked if I wanted a cigarette. Again can't remember ever being asked that question before at least for decades. I think he had an accent but what kind? I walked east along Eg. and he walked ahead very nervous pretend to spit nonchalantly then looked at a building entrance and walked in.

Sorry for adding this I realize I am not making much sense. But it is the second man I wish I had talked to.

Of course it could just be someone like me interested in the case or of course just chance.

Please know that my theory - in my mind can be placed in the 98% confidence category - that I am correct...but the difference between 98 and 100 percent is the difference between believing and knowing.

In this case I do not believe it will ever be known who killed Tedford and Stearne...But I do strongly believe that if it is provable then this DBLN path will bare fruits.

Tedford and Stearne were executed. That in and of itself was SUPER extraordinary.

When people were executed, especially, circa 1973 that was thought of as the mafia.

The previous article I posted on Karen Scarbrough, Sharon Lake and Deborah Frank executions was the link that I discovered to Stearne and Tedford because of the clarity from the PWPD of DBLN as the culprit in the Scarbrough crimes.

The mob was likely where DBLN learned to murder like that as he was very likely a freelancer for the mob - first stealing cars, then passing funny money, then do bank jobs and kidnappings, then opening the Naked Eye (a establishment opened in DC in March of 1972) and so on.

So again, the piece of the crime where Tedford and Stearne were face down and executed was a hugely revealing part of my crime theory. I have established through the Karen Scarbrough and PW County police the linkage in executing girls/women in this fashion.

I just cannot emphasize this execution piece strongly enough. In my research I have not found any crimes against women in which multiple girls/women were found executed like this - and the women were so clearly not connected to underworld crimes that would get them killed in this fashion.

That execution piece was the first and a VERY strong linkage.

Additionally, as I understand it (which I am not too familiar with the Stearne and Tedford case and I am even less familiar with Canada) Tedford and Stearne went to the mall by bus. DBLN was the Mall Passer - he did crimes at malls. And he was very likely active in doing a series of multiple kidnappings at malls throughout America and Canada in the 70's and 80's.

DBLN was very calculating, conniving, careful - so he likely was spying the bus stop nearest the mall to seek prey for his ruse. He was aware that Tedford and Stearne were bus riders. As I understand the Tedford and Stearne murders - these two women were somewhat out of their normal path home to be at the SitnEat or on that path.

So I can only cook up scenarios that would lead them to be more over in that neck of the woods to meet up with DBLN. My guess would be the temptation of purchasing drugs. He probably invited them to do more with him by getting into his vehicle and they rejected him.

I do not believe that DBLN was up to using his police ruses yet - so he was attempting some other maneuver and it failed - so he executed them.

In the future DBLN seemed to go after younger girls in multiple kidnapping attempts at malls. This worked because younger girls were less likely to catch on to his ruses. He learned from this botched attempt to lure Tedford and Stearne into his world of sexual sadism.

1982 - Easter Wendy Lynn Huggy taken from a mall in Florida - last call from Wendy to her grand parents was around a man named Don (likely DBLN using a police badge ruse - could she come down to the station to answer a few questions and he would bring her to her grandparents home).

Interesting to note that DBLN was a counterfeiter when considering the very unusual note written by one of the girls accurately predicting her own murder and manner of her death.
