Police believe a driver who struck and injured four people on TMU campus Tuesday afternoon was intentionally targeting one person.

''Toronto police believe a driver who struck and injured four people on a pedestrian walkway on Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) campus Tuesday afternoon was intentionally targeting one person.

Emergency crews were called to the downtown campus’ Nelson Mandela Walk in the Yonge Street and Gerrard Street East area at around 1:54 p.m. after reports of multiple pedestrians struck.

Two people were transported to a local hospital — one with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, and the other with minor injuries. Two others were assessed on scene and refused transport to hospital, police say.

None of the injured were students or staff at the university, Duty Inspector Todd Jocko said in an update from the scene at around 5:20 p.m.

Jocko said investigators believe the driver was intentionally trying to strike one specific person, but that person was not among the two that were hospitalized. Jocko described the most seriously injured as “bystanders” and said he’s awaiting updates on their condition.''

Toronto police are searching for a 23-year-old man they allege is responsible for a ‘targeted’ hit-and-run on the TMU campus that injured four bystanders, two seriously, on Tuesday afternoon.

''TORONTO — Police have identified the suspect in a hit-and-run that injured four people on Toronto Metropolitan University's downtown campus Tuesday, saying he is still at large and considered dangerous.

Ryan Petroff, 23, is wanted on multiple charges, including two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and failing to remain at the scene of an accident, police said in an update Wednesday.

"We believe this individual is dangerous and we are urging the public not to approach him," Toronto police Insp. Errol Watson said at a news conference. "If you see him, call police immediately."

Watson also urged Petroff to turn himself in to police.''

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance with a Fail to Remain Collision investigation.

On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at approximately 2 p.m., police responded to a call for a Fail to Remain Personal Injury Collision in the Gerrard Street East and Yonge Street area.

It is alleged that:

• the victims were sitting on a bench on the Nelson Mandela Walk on the campus of Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU)
• the suspect was operating a motor vehicle and drove it onto the pedestrian walkway
• the suspect drove the vehicle towards the bench where the victims were sitting
• the vehicle struck three victims, and caused injury to four people in total
• the suspect then fled the area in the vehicle
• two of the injured victims did not require any medical treatment, while the other two were transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries

This investigation is being treated as an intentional, targeted attack towards a specific person on the walkway.

Through their investigation, officers were able to identify the suspect.

Ryan Petroff, 23, of Toronto, is wanted for:

1. two counts of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm
2. Assault with a Weapon
3. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
4. two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation
5. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
6. Driving While Under Suspension

The vehicle is described as a green 4-door Honda Accord with stolen licence plates: DEDZ 565. It is believed that the vehicle sustained damage to the windshield as a result of the collision.

Images of the suspect and vehicle have been released.

The suspect should be considered dangerous. If anyone sees him, they are advised not to approach and to call police immediately.

''Toronto Police said Petroff was arrested Thursday after he was stopped for a road rage incident in Scarborough. Police said he was also arrested on numerous outstanding warrants.''

Global News has learned through court documents that in July of 2023, Petroff pleaded guilty to failing to provide a breath sample and four counts of uttering threats and was given a suspended sentence, including a one-year driving ban, three years’ probation and a 10-year weapons ban.'
