Police dig for clues, but after 36 years, 'Mr. X' remains anonymous

Dressed in dark green pants, a teal waist-length jacket and a blue peaked cap with a CAT Diesel Power logo, the man collapsed at the Safeway at 10725 97 St., now Lucky 97, and was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital. He died from a brain hemorrhage overnight. He had blue eyes and brown-grey hair; he was five-foot-11 and 165 pounds. Police have pegged him between 45 and 65.

The man was wearing a modified metal knee brace, had a brown cane and was missing several teeth. He was carrying two change purses, one for coins and another that had the name Josie written on it. He had a key for room No. 114 at the now demolished Windsor Hotel in Dawson Creek, B.C., in his coat pocket. But he didn’t have a piece of identification on him.

His file says he appeared transient, so officers checked shelters, hostels and taverns showing people his picture in the hopes of identifying him. Nothing came of it.

Fingerprints didn’t turn up any matches. He had no criminal record and was not a veteran. There were no missing persons reports filed that matched his description.

Came across this fellow in the Edmonton Missing Persons casefiles, even though he is technically an unidentified decedent and not a missing person. It doesn't seem like the case ever got much attention, but with forty-one years having passed, maybe someone figured out this fellow was gone and reported him missing. With such a clear image of his face available, it would be a shame if no one ever figured out who he is.

Circumstances of Discovery
The decedent suffered a medical episode and collapsed while shopping in Safeway at 97th Street and 107th Avenue. He was transported to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He may have a connection to Dawson Creek, British Columbia.

Murray went missing on May 15 1979.
He was last seen boarding a westbound train at 7:45 am.

Personal Details
Murray was 62 years old when he was last seen.
Murray is described as a white male with a medium build and fair complexion.
He has blue eyes, brown hair, stands 5 feet 11 inches and weighs 183 lbs.
His teeth are stained and he has a visibly crooked backed.
He was last seen wearing brown checkered pants, a “TD” golf hat, a “Miller” golf jacket and shoes with a thick sole.
He has a scar on his right calf from an old war wound, the skin appears to be bunched up."

My doubts & thoughts:

- MP file doesn't mention a brace or a cane, but both mention problem with the right leg
- there is a bit of a weight discrepancy, but I think it is small enough of a difference considering there is a time gap of 7 months
- the dental discrepancy seems like a big one maybe, the unidentified report doesn't mention stains at all, and the MP file doesn't mention missing teeth
- no mention in the missing persons file about any connection to Dawson Creek BC area
- another possible big one, the original WS post for the unidentified person mentions that LE determined he was not a veteran, and the MP file says his right leg issue is a war wound (I'm not sure which war he may have gotten said wound in, file says born in 1916 so I guess WW2 is most likely?)

Would love anyone else's thoughts, I have no experience with this, perhaps this is a more obvious dud to someone more experienced!
