From newspapers.com The Times 12 Oct 93, pg 5. This article (and several others available) mention there was a rock band (The Butt-Hole Surfers) playing over/above The Pit Pub on the same evening, ending sometime between midnight-1230AM. Many of those attending would have walked down the stairs and in front of The Pit Pub. The article reaches out for information regarding a particular individual who gave someone (fitting Emerson's description) a ride from Vancouver to Blaine, Washington within a day or two following his disappearance. Give this is a 1993 article, and there are no further references, it is unknown to me if this particular lead was resolved.
