''Toronto police are asking for the public's help finding a missing man who was last seen in the West Queen West area, and warning he should not be approached.

Ephraim Woldehawariat was last seen near Queen Street and Ossington Avenue on Friday, June 4.

The 38-year-old man is described by police as 5'10" with a medium build, black hair and a beard.

Police are concerned for his safety, and asking anyone who locates him to immediately call 911 and not approach him.''

I have noticed that there have been several men with Ethiopian names reported missing and listed as "do not approach" in Toronto over the past few years. I will look through the posts to find the names and dates, but I am clearly seeing a pattern.

Does Toronto have a large Ethiopian population? Is there a particular reason for these men to be in mental health facilities (what I am guessing is the source of the "do not approach" label.)

''Studies show that the rate of health service use is low among people living with mental
health problems or illnesses in IRER populations; however, this finding may mask a greater
use of more costly, higher intensity services over time, such as those offered by hospitals
or forensic psychiatric services.2 In many cases mainstream mental health care is
inconsistent with the values, expectations, and patterns of immigrants and refugee
populations.11 Although mental illnesses have similar symptoms across cultures, the ways
people manifest, describe, and interpret symptoms vary across cultures. Similarly, culture
influences where people seek help and which treatments they prefer.12,13 ''

Thank you. This may help explain why these men are so determined to leave the mental health facility when they have been admitted.
