The Dawson Creek RCMP received a report of a missing female on August 20th, 2004 from a family member in Kelly Lake, BC.

Eva MITCHELL was last seen at approximately 10:00 hours the morning of August 20th, 2004, walking away from her home on the Kelly Lake Metis Settlement near Pouce Coupe, British Columbia. MITCHELL did not live a high risk lifestyle.

MITCHELL was known to frequently walk in the wilderness to pick berries without telling anyone. MITCHELL family reported her missing in the evening when she did not return home. Her family told media they thought she had just gone out for a walk, as she did every day, and got lost or disoriented. The media report also said Mitchell is blind in one eye. She had lived in Kelly Lake for more than 40 years and was a hunter and trapper.

Between August 21 and August 30, 2004 a search comprised of over 500 people was conducted in the Kelly Lake area including the use of two RCMP helicopters, police dogs, swimming searchers, and ground search and rescue teams from across BC. Dawson Creek RCMP are investigating.

RCMP renew calls for information about missing Kelly Lake woman

It’s been nearly 15 years since the disappearance of a northeastern B.C. woman.

Family reported Eva Mitchell missing from her Kelly Lake home August 20, 2004.

The 83-year-old frequently went for walks in the woods to pick berries.

The day after she was reported missing, her dog was found walking home without her.

Dawson Creek RCMP say there was a report of an unknown male living in a trailer not too far from Mitchell’s home, but investigators say he was never been found or identified.

At the time of her disappearance, Eva Mitchell was described as Indigenous, about 130 pounds, standing between 5′ and 5’5″ with grey hair.

Dawson Creek RCMP say the case remains open and active and investigators are continuing to follow up with leads.
