''St-Roch, population 5,000, is about 50 kilometres north of Montreal in the Lanaudière region.

Propane Lafortune, a family business located on Rang de la Rivière, is involved in installing, maintaining, distributing and filling tanks.

Via Facebook, the Montcalm regional county municipality said employees are missing and a search is underway.

There is a risk of further explosions because of the number of propane tanks on the site.

Homes within a one-kilometre radius have been evacuated.

The Rang de la Rivière Nord and the Rang St-Régis are closed except for emergency vehicles.

Fire departments from Repentigny, Rawdon, Ste-Julienne and St-Lin-Laurentides are helping fight the fire.

Evacuated residents are being sheltered in the basement of the St-Roch-de-l’Achigan Church.''

As someone who works in chemical and industrial plants, these stories always unnerve me. Prayers to the workers and their families.

''An explosion has rocked a propane plant in St-Roch-de-l’Achigan, setting off a fire and leaving up to four people missing. About 40 firefighters are on the scene.''

It appears nobody was able to flee the fire, she added.

“There might have been witnesses who tried to get inside to help, but since the roof was collapsing, they had to come out as quickly as possible,” Therrien said.''

''SAINT-ROCH-DE-L’ACHIGAN, Que. - Quebec provincial police say at least three employees were missing after an explosion at a propane facility Thursday in St-Roch-de-l’Achigan, Que., north of Montreal.

Sgt. Éloïse Cossette told an evening news conference that three employees of Propane Lafortune had not been seen since the explosion, describing them as “three potential victims.”

“Our thoughts are with the families of these people, with whom we are currently in contact,“ she told reporters, adding that police have started an investigation and were dealing with a large scene that would require several days to comb through.

She didn’t provide any other details about the three missing people other than that they were employees and the search was ongoing. Police have not ruled out that other people could have been on site when the explosion occurred.''

''MONTREAL - Members of a grieving community north of Montreal gathered Sunday for a mass in solidarity with the families of three people who remained missing following a fire and explosion at a propane distribution company last week.

Several hundred people were in the pews of the local church as the ceremony began just after 10:30 in St-Roch-de-l’Achigan, Que., about 50 kilometres north of Montreal.

Two employees and a subcontractor are still missing as provincial police continue to comb through the site of Thursday’s blast with the help of police arson technicians and forensics specialists.

As of Sunday, police had still not confirmed any deaths or released the names of the victims.

Mayor Sébastien Marcil, who spoke at the service, said the small town is like a family that since Thursday has been “missing some of its members.”

He described the wait for answers as “unbearable” for the loved ones of the missing people.

“You can’t imagine how hard it is to not have news about people you love for three days, knowing there’s an explosion and the people you know are there,” said Marcil.''
