Not sure it applies here but some places have school that goes year round with breaks every so often. Some previous places I’ve lived had 9 month schools and year round schools in same town.

Police said it was Phillips’ father who reported him missing at around 5:30 p.m. after the boy didn’t get on his bus after school.

[,,,,]

Officials said there has been one sighting, on John Garland Boulevard, which was where the search focused overnight.

They are asking for anyone living in the area to check backyards, sheds or any sheltered areas.

Police telling @globalnewsto there was a minor incident in school and he may have been upset after but police can’t say if that’s why he didn’t get on the bus.

No school let's out in one week, at the end of June.
At first I thought it was a runaway. You know the children that take off to a friend's and shows up around dinner time? however it appears that it might be more than that.

One of the articles above mentioned that there was an incident at school, to which he might have been upset about and afraid to come home.

I read that too. But why would he be afraid to come home due to a school incident? Home should be safety.
Maybe getting to home on foot or the bus scared him because of threats from bullies from school?
