Laval neighbourhood shocked by 7-year-old girl's horrific death | Toronto Sun
''LAVAL — The mysterious and horrific circumstances surrounding the death of a 7-year-old girl on Sunday shocked a quiet Laval suburb and puzzled police investigators.

On Monday afternoon, on Le Boutillier St. in the city’s Chomedey district, patrol cars still sat in front of the house — a red brick home like any other on this suburban road, with a garage, a willow tree and decorative wire reindeer on the front lawn.''

''Crime scene investigators worked inside the home. They sought clues that would shed some light on the affair. So far, the events that led to the girl’s death remained a mystery, a Laval police spokesperson said at the scene.

A member of the girl’s family had called 911 around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Paramedics rushed to the home where they found the girl in cardiac arrest and, according to unconfirmed media reports, covered in bruises and burns to such an extent that, afterward, the first responders required psychological support. They tried to resuscitate the girl and transported her to a hospital where a doctor declared her dead.

The police began their investigation, questioning six adults from the family, all of whom were in the home when the paramedics arrived. But the officers had trouble communicating with the family — who are from Afghanistan and spoke neither French nor English — and had to find a translator who spoke Dari, an Afghan dialect of the Persian language.''

Quebec human rights commission to investigate death of seven-year-old girl in Laval
''Quebec’s human rights and youth rights commission is launching an investigation into the death of a seven-year-old girl found Sunday north of Montreal.

The commission said in a statement that youth protection in Laval, Que., had previously received a report about the child.

The investigation will determine whether the girl’s rights were violated and whether her death could have been prevented.''

Girl, 7, declared dead in Laval hospital; police investigating cause
''An autopsy was expected to take place, and officers are investigating whether the girl may have died after suffering some form of injury or mistreatment.''

“We tried some CPR but her death was confirmed at the hospital. An investigation is ongoing and we don’t have any suspects yet,” said Sgt. Genevieve Major of the Laval police.
Neighbours said they heard what sounded like a child screaming and crying all day before police arrived, and some said it had been ongoing for months.''

''Next-door neighbour Karim Akkaoui said he also saw bruises and bleeding on the girl as she was taken out of the home. Visibly shaken, Akkaoui described the children as nice and quiet, adding that he did not know much about the parents, and that they kept to themselves.
He also said he would hear screaming coming from the house regularly.''

Sounds like this little girl was abused for a long time and neighbours didn't report the screaming. I had police come to my home because someone complained my son had the T.V too loud. No one looks out for anyone these days. MOO

Oh this poor child. We see again with child abuse, that a report was previously made about this child. And screaming from the house.

Neighbours heard her screaming all day and never called police?

Sigh....yes, her death may have been prevented if someone picked up a phone and called Police.

I'm going to say this is an "honour thing".

Nobody speaks French or English? I wonder how they called 911?

Radio Free Europe explains it is normal for Afghans to beat their children even to the point of them passing out.

Also I think we all are aware how troops were sickened that their Afghan allies raped boys and some even kept them as sex slaves. Troops were told to ignore it by superiors because it is cultural.

This poor, poor little girl was in a free country and still couldn't escape! 30 years of war can really mess people up when this is cultural already.

RIP little doll. You're finally free.

Mother charged with criminal negligence in death of seven-year-old girl in Laval, Quebec
"The mother of a seven-year-old girl who died in early January was charged Friday with criminal negligence causing death and assault.

The woman was arrested just before 7 a.m., said Laval police spokesperson Stephanie Beshara, and appeared by videoconference in court Friday from police headquarters.
A publication ban has been placed on her name and the girl’s name. The woman was wearing jeans and a navy sweater, kept her hands folded in front throughout the proceedings. She didn’t say anything, listened closely to the Dari-French translator as he translated the hearing for her.

The Crown objected to the woman’s release on bail. A bail hearing has been set for Monday, when the woman will be present in person at the Laval court.''

I am sorry if I offend, but little children are regularly, sexually assaulted and murdered in the free world.

Please, Gibbo don't apologize to me. I can't even fathom. It will also raise awareness.

Thank you.

Okay so the mother has been charged. And the other adults living in the home?

And also why didn't neighbors ask police to do a welfare check on this child? Society needs to do more to protect children.

Quebec mother charged in death of seven-year-old girl granted bail - North Shore News
''LAVAL, Que. — The mother of a seven-year-old girl who died this month from alleged mistreatment was granted bail on Monday.

The 35-year-old woman, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, was given strict release conditions that include making a $1,000 deposit and surrendering her passport. Her next court date is scheduled for April 12.

She was arrested Friday and charged with criminal negligence causing death and with assault.''

Mother of dead Laval 7-year-old granted bail | Montreal Gazette
''Quebec’s Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse announced it would hold its own inquiry into the death. The inquiry, which will not be public, will determine if the rights of the child, whose case was the subject of a complaint to the Direction de la protection de la jeunesse, were respected and prevent a similar situation from recurring.''

Dead 7-year-old Chomedey girl's mother released on $1,000 bail bond
''However, according to a news report on Monday, the mother is currently also facing an assault charge against her daughter that dates back to last June.

The bail conditions, which were agreed upon by the defence and the prosecution, required, among other things, that the accused post a $1,000 bail bond and surrender her passport to court officials.

The conditions also require her to live at her current address on Le Boutillier St. in Chomedey.

She is also not allowed to communicate with certain people (including her other children), unless it becomes necessary to prepare her legal case with the assistance of a lawyer.

Her next court appearance has been scheduled for April 12. Neither the woman nor the victim can be identified because of a news publication ban currently in force.''

I wonder if the neighbors were also from Afghanistan? I just can't imagine hearing a child screaming and crying all the time and not call for wellness check. Could it be a cultural thing to 'mind your own business' that failed this child? JMO

Wondering if the child might have been special needs and ''vocalizations'' were a regular thing? speculation.

I looked it up and it said since the 1960's Laval was one of the multicultural places in Chomedey.

Lebanese, Syrian, Haitian, Armenian, and several more with a large Greek community.

I wonder if because of diversity people just aren't sure what is cultural or don't want to get involved?
