i would assume a walk-in oven, same as a walk-in cooler, has a opening mechanism you can access from the inside, right?? was recently in our morgue cooler and the door shut. i got freaked for a split second before i remember we have a button that disengages the latch.

They all would have this. There would be well documented policies and procedures in a company like Walmart. One would be the oven is not in use on weekends.

When I first heard it, I just could not see how this could happen. Now that there appears to be more to the story, it actually makes more sense. More to come, I am sure.

that's the first thing I thought of - what about the emergency button?
I thought all freezers and oven rooms had them

i think so to, especially as @Panniniclaus said in such a regulated operation as walmart. its indicative that, for whatever reason, she was unable to press it. hmm...

Has foul play been ruled out in both cases? Were these two situations accidental? Seems a bit bizarre to me. JMO

Certainly not ruled out in Halifax. I can't speak to the other one.

This is what I thought of, too. Perhaps she fell and it her head severely and was unconscious/unable to press the button. What a tragic situation. :(

So I had wrong information. 3 years, not 3 weeks.

The oven is not to be used on weekends. The oven does not lock. No wonder there is rampant speculation.

<modsnip> On Toronto’s Global news last night, members of the Sikh community in Halifax spoke to the news.
His comment "working hard and THEN THIS HAPPENS" would lead some to speculate this. I think that would be pretty quick and possibly way off, based on what is making the rounds here.

I want to say more. Wait for the dribs and drabs of info to come out.

Following. Very suspicious.

I’m thinking of her, her loved ones and everyone involved.

My grandfather died working as a carpenter and my father was with him. The grief is compounded if there is negligence involved. It lasts a lifetime, in our experience (it was coworker’s error). Everyone immediately forgave him, but our family lived with the ‘what ifs’.

My new, complicated oven turned itself on and caught fire. My faint hope is that this tragedy isn’t worsened by user error (not her), and it turns out to be a catastrophic electronic failure. Maybe she did pass out. I’m hoping for some small mercy.

“Harjit Seyan, president of the Sikh society, says the group is fundraising and helping arrange visas to bring the young woman's father and other family members to Canada for the funeral.

“The Halifax Maritime Sikh Society will be contributing towards the travel. And then we're trying to also set up a GoFundMe page to raise financial support for that,” he said.

“You know, the community is definitely shaken by the whole event,” he said.”

If you search for the fundraiser, they have named her and are descriptive about the incident.

(I blacked out the name not permitted on WS).

Her mother found her, according to the official fundraising page. They both worked for the same store for two years.

The fundraiser has raised over $86k of its 50k target. The funds will be used to bring her father and brother to Canada.

Her own mother found her. This gets more horrific day by day.
