Canada - Gursimran Kaur, 19, Walmart worker found dead inside bakery oven - October 22, 2024

Was the door locked from the inside? That would be a serious safety violation for a walk-in fridge or oven.
It was reported that it had both a safety release on the inside and had to be shut from the outside- hence my dilemma in getting oneself both locked in there and the oven on… moo

But how the heck did it get shut and turned on? No ideas here … moo
Maybe the oven was on a timer for self-cleaning. Who knows. The question is - why did her mother know to check the oven? Was this not the first time her daughter was in it?
Bizarre way to die!

That's why I'm curious whether she went in there to skip work and have a nap. If she was asleep, she may not have noticed the temp rising.

If it was on self-cleaning- one would assume that it would have to be latched and locked from the outside or it wouldn’t start the cycle… back to confused with death by oven… and if the door were not secured and latched, the stench would have alerted others prior to a leaking substance.., moo

But temp wouldn’t have been rising if the door wasn’t sealed, my home oven cuts off when the door is ajar… back to confused… moo

I can see someone walking by and closing the oven door if they found it open. What I can’t see is someone then turning it on without having put a rack of to-be-baked items inside. Having watched the Tik-Tok videos showing the ovens, I don’t see that she could have been inside without someone seeing her as they closed the door. Lastly, I thought I read that the ovens were not supposed to be operated on the weekend?
But that would involve a second person…

Did LE look at her medical records? Was she clinically depressed? Was it evident to others that she might take her own life? Yes, I know, it’s very difficult to pinpoint that.

Here is a thing... this way of suicide is somewhat "cultural", but very painful. I know a person that chose it, but couldn't go all the way with it because of the pain. So I can't imagine her not banging or yelling. No one paid attention to it?

There would have been a release latch on the inside I think …

Maybe her mother knows more about it than we've heard. Walmart is a big store. Who would think that a missing employee is in the oven other than someone who might already know something about the missing employee going into the oven?

Did the 19 year old work two jobs?

No clue on any of the questions… but per report no one else involved… just makes no sense to me.. I’m obviously missing something… moo

We conducted several interviews, reviewed video footage, and worked very closely with our partners at Nova Scotia Department of Labor and medical examiner service,” Martin Cromwell, public information officer for Halifax Regional Police, said in a video statement. “We do not believe anyone else was involved in the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.”

Investigators met with the victim’s family to share the update and extend condolences, police said.

Cromwell said police expect this to be the final update on the case

Police say their investigation has determined the death of a 19-year-old Walmart employee found dead inside a Halifax store last month was not suspicious, and there is “no evidence of foul play.”

In a Monday update, Halifax Regional Police said investigators had met with the family to share the findings, and that the family has asked for privacy.

Very sad. It sounds to me that it might have been intentional. The store is still closed but they are working on a reopening & the oven has been removed.
My heart goes out to Gursimran's family and loved ones. I hope they hold her loving memory close to their hearts.

And, while not quite as devastating, I want to give a nod to the staff at the WalMart. No doubt they've been through so much. I'm sure it's been very tough for management to handle the situation and for fellow employees to deal with the fallout and emotional toll of losing a colleague.

Very true- there are a LOT of disrupted and traumatized lives from this event:(

Getting stranger and more complex- why would 911 call be made about a woman trapped before her mom “found” her- and per the previous article- the oven didn’t lock…

Was her mom and daughter working the same shift that night ? Didn't the mom try calling her on her phone ? Since her mom found her, I wonder why the daughter did not call her mom from the oven earlier to save her, before it got too hot. Perhaps she did slip and fall otherwise she would have. Just speculation

Haven’t seen any of that reported
If the ovens were not suppose to be on during wknds, no bakery employees be watching the oven and she would have gone unnoticed. I wonder did employees clean ovens only on wknds? She may have slipped on water cleaning it but if so, why would it be on during a cleaning only?

To loosen up whatever dough etc is stuck and needs scraping off walls, floor and racks.

It’s a pretty big job and a bit of heat helps it along.

I suspect the young woman died from a medical emergency, not enough time to call anyone.

Sudden cardiac death springs to mind, yes it happens to young people. Think of the football players who collapse on the field and never knew they had a problem.

Often the first sign of cardiac problems is death from SCD. Google it, it’s more common than we like to think.

Yes, they were both working that shift, mother couldn’t locate her and had asked admin people to help find her.

It would be nice for her family and/or a detective to be able to view all of the store's security footage that day.
If they were able to determine the time of death, and also if there were any wounds on the young woman that didn't coincide with be burned ?
Yes, security footage is critical. I wonder what the oven temperature was set at plus the timing button? I say this because if it was set for an hour plus and on high, it certainly be not set to bake something light like pastries.

Was she working all by herself at that time ?
Still have some questions.
Omo.
