''Family and friends are speaking out after a violent carjacking in Mississauga led to the death of a 24-year-old international student.
Gurvinder Nath, 24, died in hospital days after being attacked while delivering a pizza and left on the side of the road. Police continue to search for the suspects involved in the tragedy.
“It’s very, very painful for us and his family,” said Balram Krishan, the victim’s cousin, who described him as a kind and caring young man.
Nath came to Canada two years ago to study business management and worked for a local pizza shop, making deliveries to pay his way through school.
“We lost a 24-year-old. He had so many dreams … he was going to become something and help the nation, and today he is no longer with us, which is very, very sad. I hope it doesn’t happen to somebody else,” added family friend Jaswinder Meelu''

''In the early morning hours of July 9, Nath arrived at a delivery location on Emerson Lane near Creditview and Britannia Roads. Police say he was confronted by unknown suspects. An altercation ensued, and they took off with his car.

His family tells CityNews the 24-year-old was hit over the head with a blunt object and left in the street. His boss made the tragic discovery after Nath failed to return.

Carjackings across the GTA have skyrocketed in recent years. In Peel Region, the number of incidents was up 45 per cent in 2022.''

''Nath was heading into his last semester of college and had dreams of opening his own pizza shop one day, and he often spoke about providing employment for newcomers.

A candlelight vigil to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, July 22, in Mississauga.''

In the early morning hours of July 9, Gurvinder Nath, a “gentle man” who dreamed of making Canada his permanent home, hopped in his Volkswagen Jetta to deliver a late order from the Mississauga pizza shop where he had been working to help pay for school.

The 24-year-old from Punjab, India, arrived in the country in 2021 and was studying business at a Toronto-area college, paying the hefty international student tuition fees that come with such an education.

But he had managed to buy the Jetta. It was his first car, and he treated it like a baby, according to cousin Balram Krishan and family friend Jaswinder Meelu, who on Wednesday jumped from one media interview to another, sharing memories of Nath and still dealing with his July 14 death.

Nath was ambushed and fatally injured in a carjacking while making that last delivery. Found by his boss and rushed to hospital, Nath remained unconscious and hooked up to a tangle of wires, tubes and needles at the trauma unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre until his death.

Krishan and others were by his bedside from morning to night, so he wasn’t alone.

“The doctors tried their best,” said Meelu. “But because the head injuries, his brain pressure was at an extreme level. There was serious damage to his head. So, he couldn’t make it.”

''Delivery workers are increasingly the target of such crimes — a danger brought into sharp focus by the killing of a Pizza Pizza driver this summer. In Peel Region, crime statistics show a jump from six such cases in 2021, to 14 in 2022, to 20 between January and August 2023. Toronto has also seen a rise, with 12 cases reported so far this year, compared to 11 in all of 2022.
Such thefts mean Xavier is now constantly wary of his surroundings and potential threats. He says drivers are spreading awareness about carjackings online and “some people have been posting articles and talking about it.”
He says the fact that drivers have to exit their vehicles and frequently walk into unfamiliar situations and addresses makes them “prey for the predators.”

''One recent carjacking claimed the life of 24-year-old Gurvinder Nath, a college student who earned a living delivering food for Pizza Pizza. He was killed in July while fulfilling what he thought was a legitimate delivery request.
Several hours after his vehicle was taken, police found it abandoned near Old Derry and Creditview roads in Mississauga, not far from where he was attacked, said Insp. Phillip King of the Peel police homicide bureau.
Police say there could be multiple reasons why Nath’s vehicle was ditched so quickly, but their working theory is that perhaps the suspects did not anticipate the extensive injuries to the victim, leading them to get rid of the vehicle. Nath died a few days later in hospital.
“Investigators believe there are multiple suspects involved, and that the food order was placed as a means of luring the driver to the specific area,” King said at the time, adding that police believe a suspect vehicle that drove off after the attack was also stolen.
Anyone else who might have delivered the food order that evening could have been the target, King said''

But why?! Most people don’t pay in cash anymore. A car can be stolen on the street…

Relieved a second arrest was made but then I saw this article that his mother took her own life after his murder... I hadn't heard this before. So so so awful, this poor family
