''A Toronto police officer was shot and killed in Mississauga on Monday afternoon, a source confirms with CityNews.

No further details about the death have been revealed. Police are expected to provide an update later tonight.

Sources told the Canadian Press the victim was a veteran police motorcycle officer who was in the Argentia Road and Winston Churchill Boulevard area for a training exercise when he was approached by a gun-wielding man who opened fire.

A second person was reportedly struck in the same incident, but no details are available.

Peel regional police sent out an “active shooter” alert after the shootings, which took place around 2:15 p.m.

There now appears to be two, possibly three separate but connected shooting scenes in Mississauga, Milton, and Hamilton, although details are sketchy and still emerging.''

''The dramatic violence is said to have begun at a Tim Hortons restaurant at Argentia Rd. and Winston Churchill Blvd.

Police sources say the suspect approached the Toronto Police officer from behind and shot him, then allegedly shot the owner of a vehicle in a carjacking and drove to Milton.''

''From there, sources say the suspect allegedly shot his boss at a mechanic shop in Milton along with two other staff before heading to Hamilton where Halton police shot at the suspect.''

The Toronto Police officer who was fatally shot in this incident is said to have been leading a training class in Peel for motorcycle officers.

“They just stopped for lunch when someone came in and shot at the officers,” said a source. He said he was transported to hospital but died.''

''A 48-year-old Toronto police officer was fatally shot at close range and died at the scene in an unprovoked “ambush” attack in Mississauga as part of a shooting rampage that continued into Milton and left one other person dead and three injured, police officials said Monday.

The gunman was taken into custody and pronounced dead in Hamilton. That incident is now the subject of an investigation by Ontario’s police watchdog.

“It is with profound sadness that I announce the death of Toronto Police Service Constable Andrew Hong of Traffic Services,” Toronto Police Chief James Ramer said at a news conference alongside his counterparts from Peel and Halton regions in Mississauga Monday night.

Ramer said Hong was a 22-year-veteran of the force who was also a father of two, a husband, a brother and a son. The chief said he met with the fallen officer’s family earlier today.

“I committed to his family that they will have the full support of the Toronto Police Service every day going forward,” Ramer said. “This is devastating news for his family and for all members of the Toronto Police Service and our entire policing community.”

''Police are trying to figure out what sparked a GTA shooting rampage that left a Milton dad and a Toronto cop dead, as well as the suspect himself.''

''The Special Investigations Unit says their probe will focus partly on the cemetery and four officers who were involved in the incident.
They say they notified the alleged suspect’s next-of-kin last night and are awaiting an autopsy to be scheduled. They have assigned seven investigators and two forensic investigators to the case.''

''Satwinder Singh, an international student from India who was working part-time at MK Auto Body Repairs, was also shot. Police said earlier this week that he was not expected to survive.

In a news release issued Saturday, police said that Singh died peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital with friends and family at his side.

“This is heartbreaking news for our community which hasn’t even begun to heal from Monday’s traumatic events. I urge everyone to reach out and ask for help if they need it,” Halton Regional Police Service Chief Stephen Tanner said in a statement.''
