Circumstances of Disappearance

At about 21:40 on August 16, 1972, Ingrid Bauer walked out of her home in Kleinberg (now the city of Vaughan, Ontario) to hitchhike to her boyfriend's place, in North Woodbridge. She was last seen on foot on the west side (southbound) of Islington Avenue.

Ingrid's boyfriend called her parents when she didn't arrive and a search for her began within an hour.

Some residents of Kleinburg reported hearing the cries of what appeared to be a young person in the area of Islington Avenue and Sevilla Drive at approximately 22:00 that evening, and reported seeing a pick up truck in the area of where the cries were heard.

I think the fact that she'd already been waiting for 15 minutes, that it was quite late, that she'd said she'd only be there for an hour, and that she was really looking forward to seeing her boyfriend, might have led her to get into any car that offered her a ride, even if it seemed a bit suspicious... Given the circumstances, it seems highly unlikely that she left alone... And she wasn't wearing shoes? Why would she leave without shoes? There's no way she would have started a new life without them... Something bad happened to that girl that night...
Whatever the case,
rest in peace.

Happy early birthday Ingrid!
Ingrid’s disappearance is one I have followed my whole life and I deeply want it to be solved one day.

To pre-face, my family still lives in Kleinburg and we’re very close with the Bauers back when Ingrid disappeared and are still close with some of her family. Kleinburg was a very small town back then, everyone knew everyone. Think dirt roads and farmers fields until you hit the next town. With it being summer, it was very normal for kids to be out at night around town and people often jumped into cars with people they knew. People simply thought she went to a friend’s and would just show up again. Her family was in quite well off and they put so much money into trying to find anything.

Over the years I’ve heard quite a few of the rumours that have been said, the most known one is that she was seen in a pickup truck at a gas station with some older teenagers - one of which was the last to report seeing her. The gas station from my understanding was in the other direction of where she was going but on highway 27. (It no longer exists today). Some of those teens have since been in/out of prison their whole lives.
