WTH? What was the point? Did they want to lose their rights to custody? I don't understand.

Did they 'lend' her to someone, then try to cover it up by saying he went missing?

Lying to police typically constitutes a public mischief charge and an obstructing peace officer could be even more simple.
Police often use these charges as leverage when they have a really belligerent and irritating family to deal with, it doesn't mean for sure that they staged it etc.

"On Tuesday evening, police said they have charged two women in connection with this case but cannot release their names in an effort to protect the identity of the child."

Oh Oh, I think we know what that means. They already released her name but now they are going with anonymous.

Her name is gone from media now. Well the CP24 article. Can someone alert a mod as maybe we should remove her name :(

Oh no, I was afraid of this.

I'm not clear on whether that means what we think it means.
If it did, why on earth didn't she have a full medical exam?
Perhaps this is just one of those things that is done differently in Canada?

I think you're right. There are other reasons to protect someone's identity.

She should have been brought to a hospital immediately. SMH

I wonder if they will include a child endangerment charge?
Officers say the girl approached a bystander looking for help and police were called.
It seems she was left to fend for herself at some stage...unless the 'bystander' was in on it.

UNREAL. I am fuming at this latest news release about 2 women being arrested. I knew something wasn't right. That poor girl. These women should never be allowed to breed. There BETTER be a child endangerment charge!

Ugh. So disgusting. Poor child. I hope she is given medical care and taken away from her family if this means what I think it means.

What does "guardian" mean in Canada? In the US, it's usually meant as someone who is acting as a parent to the child when the parent is not around long-term, due to jail, military, or the child being removed from the home, etc.

Thats what i think it means here(Canada) as well.
It can also refer to parents

Thats generally what it means here as well. I've also seen it used in cases where the parent had the child young or was into drugs, etc. and someone else is raising the child. They get guardianship in order to make decisions, etc.

It's also used with children who are in care, or in group home settings, usually in cases where parents have abandoned the kids, or parents visit, but have no legal rights currently.

I have often seen the word guardian used in Canada for a foster parent too.

I'm thinking along these lines.

<By law, police must protect the privacy of the child and will not be releasing the names of the two women,” police said in a news release.>

So why do they list the child's name in the article. I don't like the thoughts I'm having about this case. I hope the child is really ok.
