Jayaratnam Punnusamy, 84, was last seen early Sunday morning in the Midland Avenue and Lawrence Avenue East area of Scarborough.

He’s described as 5-foot-5, 185 pounds, heavy build with grey receding hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing grey track pants, a blue fleece jacket and a white sweater under his jacket.

Police continue search for missing senior last seen Sunday in Scarborough

“The family is very worried,” Toronto police Sgt. Sin Chiu told reporters in an update provided Monday afternoon.

“They’ve been out there searching themselves. They’re obviously very upset.


Police mounted and canine units are currently taking part in the search, Chiu said. Marine units have also been utilized.

According to Chiu, Punnusamy will likely be moving very slowly, as he relies on the use of a cane that he does not have with him.

She asked homeowners to check their properties, including backyards, sheds and garages.

Police are expanding their search for a missing senior with several medical issues in Scarborough

Police set up a command post Tuesday in a hydro field on the west side of Midland Avenue, north of Romulus Drive to search for the missing man.

Police say he walks with a distinctive shuffle and has hip and knee problems that require him to rest frequently

Police have not provided any details of his death or if there was any foul play involved. His body was found Tuesday morning.

Police confirmed his body was found about 500 metres from his home at around 10 a.m. Tuesday near some railway tracks. He likely died from being outside without care for days, officials told CP24.
